I have a P2 and after oil change, I noticed a bit strange engine sound while the engine hood was open. Is that sound normal? Usually I do not notice much of engine sitting as driver inside the car.
View 13 RepliesI own hyundai 2000, 1.5L. About 5 days ago the engine started making strange noise that sounds like sewing machine.
I went to my garage and they said that its the hydraulic valve lifters and that I should replace all of them(12 total).
My question is, what can happened if I wont replace them? can I postpone the replacing for a few months or it can cause damage?
By the way, I heard that the noise from hydraulic valve lifters can start due to bad oil, I had 20W50 so I changed today the oil to 15W40(manufacturer recommendation) and the oil filter and still got the noises.
My hood does not want to open. The hood will not pop up enough to allow me to unlatch it and open it. Currently, the workaround is to insert a very thin screwdriver into the weatherstriping between the hood and the bumper and gently "nudge" the hood open.
View 19 RepliesI have a used 2010. Came home to my car rifled through (I left it unlocked) door not completely closed, 12v battery dead because of interior lights. Jumped it. Got it into ready mode. Thought I left it on enough to charge the battery. Locked it. Unlocked and locked it with the fob... no problem.
Came back later in the day, now dead and locked. Car didn't come with manual key. Very expensive to replace so i skipped it. Is that now my only solution without damaging the car? How to open the hood so I can jump it?
I have a 1997 Ford Econoline conversion campervan that I don't use very often. I need to open the hood to jump start the battery. Last time I opened the hood I did not notice anything wrong with the hood or the hood release latch inside the cab. Now when I pulled the hood release latch inside the cab, nothing happens to the hood at all (the hood does not open at all).
Is there a way I can open the hood or do I need to tow it to my mechanic?
Just curious-- After several hours of not running, I open the driver door and hear a pump of some kind start up and run under the hood. Runs for a while then stops. How long seems to depend on how long the car has sat there, but about 30 seconds max. What it is?
View 3 RepliesAllright, I seem to be having these very strange sounds at idle. Mostly when I am in Drive and waiting at a red light. In Park, it isn't as bad it seems.
One sound is knocking. A kinda slow one and irregular. Not a motor knock tho. Doesn't sound like that. It also kinda clicks from under. So, those both sounds come from under or the sides of the truck.
Should I worry about this? I've had these sounds since I've got the truck. Sometimes louder than usuall.
My 2003 V6 has an odd smell coming from under the hood. Doesn't smell like gas or oil. It kinda smells like burning plastic and it may be coming from the area around the coolant reservoir.
View 2 Replies2002 accent gl. 96000 miles...strange clicking or ratcheting sounds that I thought were drivers side 1/2 shafts going bad...replaced it, still has the sound...replaced left shock-strut was bad as well. sounds like differential noise, almost like a baseball card hitting bicycle spokes! previous owner told me this sound has been there for over 1 year and he put both 1/2 shafts in as well, sound is still there. Trans was a little low on fluid(automatic/overdrive). tried driving car with o/d off, manually shifting and driving through all the gears, sound is still there.
View 3 RepliesMy EB makes a moaning noise when I am accelerating up to speed when driving "old Man " style. I guess its the turbo blow off valve(s) like used to happen on my old 7.3's. I hope its not anything to worry about. The truck runs string and gets 18 mpg mixed driving. I do get bon it a lot too.
View 3 RepliesI put a ts6 on my 2001 7.3. I love it shift points are better and truck has a lot more power. But I've noticed when I shift truck shifts into 3 (especially going uphill) I get a really weird turbo sound where it acts like its gasping for air (I have 6637 air filter) and then it shifts kinda rough into third. If I put chip on stock setting it doesn't do either of the things I described. Do I have loose turbo boots somewhere or possible bad turbo bearings?

I've got a strange squeal sound coming from under the hood only when truck is cold? It sounds like a bearing and after it gets heated up the sound stops. I talked with a guy thats a cummins guy and he said he had a similar issue and he had to replace the bearing in the turbo? Also when truck is warm it will still do it, like for instance, if I run in a store and truck idles for 5-10 mins it will do it only if I romp on it for a short while like 2-3 mins then again goes away. And if I'm idling or in neutral, hot/cold, it does not do it, it seems to be only under a load. Pull a 26 foot boat no problems.
What could be making the strange pumping sound coming from under my hood after I shut off the truck?? It sounds like a small compressor or pump running.
View 4 RepliesI bought a 2007 Prius with 198,000 miles on it. Since then I've got it up to 200,000 ish. The previous owners took very good care of it, and did not encountered any severe issues.
I recently took it in to a toyota dealership for the free inspection, and they said it was in remarkably good shape. I asked about the engine noise, and they took it for a drive and said everything sounded pretty normal, at least compared to the prius with 130,000 miles on it that they had apparently just serviced before me. I went ahead and lifted up the hood, set my phone recording at the front of the car, and started it. I let it run for a few seconds, then shut it off.
I have a 2000 LS, V6, that won't start, had the battery and alternator checked and are fine, last week i notice when I turn the switch to start up there was a 1 or 2 second delay then it would start, the other day the wife called me at work to tell she she was out and it wouldn't start as I was talikng to her she tried it and it started right up, didn't do it again until this morning, check the fuses and all were ok, it started 2 times then about 30 minutes, nothing, and i mean nothing, the security on the dash doesn't indicate a problem, I turn the switch everything lights ups as it should, everything works(radio...etc.) go to start and nothing but click, sounds like it comes from the fuse/relay box under the hood, starter maybe? relay?
View 3 RepliesMy 1992 Toyota Camry was making increasingly worse sounds under the hood. On my way to my mom's mechanic, something snapped and the car stopped running. I asked the mechanic to check it out and let me know how much it would cost to fix it. He told me a needed a new timing belt, water pump, and everything else that goes along with it. The engine, because of Toyota's design was fine.

I do a lot of diagnostic and keys programming but my mechanical knowledge isn't' that good. I had a minor accident last week and a car hit my Prius from the passenger front corner, Areand left a small dent, check the red X in the pic.
I noticed after the accident that the engine noise was much higher, I checked all ECUs with Techstream, I found only one error on the Transmission ECU:
C2318 Low Voltage Error(Power supply Malfunction).
Cleared it and didn't show again even after driving 200 milesIs
there anything behind this area that can cause that noise? or something responsible of reducing the engine noise might be damaged or broken?
I first noticed a strange noise coming from the engine compartment a day ago. I had left the car to sit in the sun for a few hours. When I got in the A/C was set to on and the system was on auto. I tested to see if the noise went away when I turned off the A/C and it did. I turned it back on and it returned. I know the A/C operates at different speeds based upon cooling needs and that it can get sort of noisy but I didn't think that it could/should get this loud. The system seems to begin working quickly and it does seem to put out cold air. If the noise is unusual do you think that it indicates another underlying problem in the A/C system?
Just to clarify, the ICE is not running in the video. The cabin fan is set to low and the temperature is set to low. The person in the car presses the A/C button and the cooling fans in the engine compartment come on as well as the A/C unit. The sound gets louder a few seconds in. I've got a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan, 3.8L engine. There's a sound coming from under the hood that sounds like a drum roll on a piece of hard plastic. No noise on idle or revving the engine while parked. Noise starts upon accelerating, seems to disappear in second gear (automatic trans), reappears in 3rd gear, disappears in 4th. Appearance and disappearance isn't consistent but seems to disappear when the engine shifts up and the rpms drop. No check engine light.
View 7 RepliesNot a great first week of ownership. Tried to open my hood tonite and find there is no tension whatsoever on the hood release lever. On my Corrado, I can pop it over w/ a screwdiver thru the grille, can this be done on a B6? It even looks like there is a cut out between the grille & hood to get at the release, but I can't figure it out for the life of me.
