I drove our 2007 Prius (79K miles) the other day and noticed a whirring or slight grating noise whenever I loaded up the left front wheel (by steering right) at speed. It's far from a hum or a howl at this point.
View 14 RepliesDriving back from Florida yesterday i noticed a slight grating sound when turning right at highway speeds ( 75 -85 mph). I noticed it particularly when driving through the mountains in West Virginia .
What it might be ? The car is very quiet (no radio on) and I am sensitive to road noises etc.
I have a 2011 E Sedan and recently started hearing a loud grating noise from the passenger front wheel area. It only happens when turning the wheel to the left. It isn't a popping noise like the traditional CV Joint and the boot is still intact.
I jacked the front up today and put it on jack stands. I pulled the tire, caliper, caliper mounting bracket, and rotor to look at the dust shield and there was no sign of it rubbing, nor was there any other wear marks. With everything still disassembled, I turned the wheel hub with my hands and noticed the same, though fainter, sound. I started the car and put it in drive and once again the same noise was coming from the hub assembly area, although I didn't use a stethoscope to listen.
The noise is more profound when under load turning left, but it still seems to coming from the same area. My plan is to replace the entire wheel hub assembly since they aren't that expensive. That, and I don't want to go through the headache of puling everything apart to simply replace the bearings.

When sitting in a parked position, engine running, and I jog the wheel back and fourth I'm hearing an awful clunking noise from what sounds to me to be the steering rack.
-The noise can not be replicated unless the vehicle is stopped with the front suspension loaded.
-While moving, be it 5 mph or 55 mph the noise can not be replicated.
-Tyrolsport deadest kit installed upfront, no apparent play in the u joint that connects the steering shaft to the rack.
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information about issues with mkv steering racks making noise like I'm describing. Most information pertains to subframe shifting which can't be the case.
I have a vibration when i take a right corner above 35 mph. Its coming from the front left wheel area. The brakes and rotors look fine. The ABS light cuts on and off sometimes also.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2002 toyota echo and about 2 months ago my front left wheel came off while driving and ever since it has been making a thumping noise that is related to the wheel speed. I have replaced the front struts and brakes but the noise is still there. There is also a whirring noise. I have ruled out wheel bearings, ball joints and tie rods. I noticed vertical play in the right cv axle. It moves up and down coming from the trans and not the knuckle. Could that be the noise?

View 7 RepliesTwice I have made this happen. It is a right turn at about 5 mph, there is bump from blacktop to pavers. I have my foot slightly on brake during turn. Then the front left wheel emits this rapid clicking noise until I nearly come to a stop.
View 3 RepliesMy brakes were terrible and finally got roders and pads for front yesterday ... well the pad on passenger side was like not there anymore almost metal on metal and driver side was not close to being that bad but like driving down road there was a slight hi pitch tick that only occured when steering wheel was slightly tilted left (counter clockwise).
We redid front pads and roders (did bad not to long ago) and now there a terrible rubbing sound and it only occurs when again wheel tilted left or making a left hand turn cant figure it out thought it was the wire clip to hold caliper in place but that's clearing rim .... it sounds like metal on metal and driving me nut was driving last night and after awhile it did go away but i have feeling it going to happen again when i drive it today ...
I have an 03 Elantra with a slight hum coming from the front left wheel area. It starts after 35 mph, does not seem to get louder as speed increases. I have about 3500 miles on Pirelli P6 plus 195 60 15 tires all at 35 psi, front brakes are new, cv boots are not cracked or torn and I do not notice any abnormal heat coming from front left hub(wheel) bearing area.
View 1 RepliesI bought a 2007 GS350 April of this year and I love the car. Been wanting one since it came out and I was fortunate to find one with only 52k miles. When I purchased the car, it had 20" TSW wheels. Onto my problem, it just started a few days ago, at crawling speed, my steering wheel pulsates to the left. The faster I go, the less it will pulsate but it will pull to the left. The wheels aren't bent, tires are almost brand new, no bubbles nor knots. The balance on the wheels aren't off. I read somewhere the wheel bearing could cause the steering wheel to pulsate but I don't hear the hum nor grinding noise associated with bad wheel bearing.
View 5 RepliesI'm looking at a 2004 F250 XLT super cab 4x4 with a 5.4L with only 50k on the clock. It looks to be in great shape and drives good with only a few issues. Cruise doesn't work, it pulls to the left a little, and it has a slight roar coming from the left front wheel. Other than that it seems to be a nice truck. Its blue and grey two tone. Anything else I need to look at before pulling the handle on this one?
View 11 RepliesI have an issue with my new 2011 F150 FX4 super crew with 5.0. I put a Rough Country level kit on the front struts which raised it 2.5 inches and looks great. The issue is that there is a low speed knock heard on the left side and felt through to the steering wheel. The truck has been aligned to factory specs. all bolts have been tightened, the strut has been taken off to check the top mounting bolts. Nothing appears to loose. Can't find anything. Am I forgetting something. Rough Country said it can't be the kit. It has bee used for sometime with no issues.
View 14 RepliesI have an '02 Camry with 82,000 miles. I recently noticed a clicking from the front left wheel starting at 68-70 mph. The click varies in frequency with slight bumps in the road. It seems to stop if I touch the brakes, and it might get less if the road turns enough to increase the G force (not too many times on highway going this speed on a curvy road, so I'm not sure.) It never happens under 65 mph.
We recently had local flooding and I drove through about 8 inches of water. The noise was a few days later in dry weather at 80 degrees. It did not occur when the car was starting off cool, but not until I was driving for about 5-10 minutes. The tire and wheel look OK, but it has not been on a lift nor have I been to a mechanic yet. I don't want to get talked into expensive repairs that I don't need, but I don't want to put off something now that is dangerous or will turn into a bigger expense later.
The problem started a few months back and has been getting progressively worse. Unfortunately for my Prius I have been in the middle of remodeling my house so I have been neglecting the problem and now it is time to face it before something bad happens.
So, It is a 2005 Prius with 189k+ miles on it. I started getting a vibration/clunking noise in the front end while driving with the steering wheel centered. It also turns on the traction control alert and sometimes slows the car down when turning and the only way to get it to stop is to turn the wheel the other way. It started only happening at higher speeds of 65mph+ but progressively got worse until it now happens as low as 35mph.
I thought that it was the drive axle as it seemed to be characteristic of that with the vibration (When the problem first started it seemed to only happen when accelerating, but now happens all the time), so I replaced the LH drive axle as well as the sway bar tie rod (The joints were very worn and loose), but the problem still exists.
I've noticed a creaking sound coming from the left front wheel when I go over a couple of particularly large speed bumps. I have had a lot of problems with the suspension in this car, and have replaced the front struts, the front right control arm, and the sway bar links and bushings. My best guess is that this noise is coming from the front left control arm, as it has not been replaced, although my current mechanic says that the front left control arm is fine. Also, it has been under 10 F here the past few days, so this could also just be a result of the cold weather.

Need to replace at least one rear wheel bearing, but still not positive which side. Getting a whump whump whump and slight howl at speed that seems to be worse going around right turns, so will change the drivers side first.
View 3 RepliesSo on my girlfriends 2000 echo I get the classic bad wheel bearing noise/vibration on the front left (driver side) wheel. Worsens under load (right turn) and goes away when unloaded (left turn). I've replaced left side bearing, CV axle, brake rotors/pads and the noise still persists. My next thought is maybe the ball joint but humming/vibration tells me something out of rotational balance. Bearing in the transmission? I don't know. I'm stuck.
View 5 RepliesThis may be by design but while cleaning my car running my hand w dry cloth over steering wheel I noticed a slight bump. To the left of the Toyota logo. I'm not sure if it's on purpose so if the airbag deploys it breaks away but I just noticed it. it's a 2015 Prius 3. Rather not have the airbag go off while driving.
