I have 2005 Prius , and the inner fender liner on the driver's side needs to be replaced. The clips came loose and the loosened liner had been rubbing against the tire.
I'm wondering if replacing the inner fender liner would be a DIY job ?
If the driver's side fender liner is supposed to have an access panel cover? I was swapping out my side markers today and noticed that my passenger's side has one but not the driver's side. Didn't think to check for something like that during delivery although from looking at the one from the passenger's side, it doesn't seem hard to believe that it could have fallen out due to spirited driving.
View 3 Repliesjust checked my front fender liner(driver and passenger side) and noticed it was cut on the outside between the fender and liner from front of fender to back making a 2" gap above the tire. i bought the car used 2 years ago and never noticed it. i have 20k miles on it. is this a needed part to change? will water damage any items located under this fender lining? i figured they cut it out for an aggressive tire set up and drop???

Now going over moderate bump the tires are hitting the top of fender liner. I have tried to use heat gun and pushed the fender a little more up without success. If it involves removing the top fender liner..

View 4 RepliesI've taken the driver's door panel off, and unpeeled the liner. Now that the door is naked and exposed, I'd like to fix several things at once, rather than wearing the adhesive liner out by sticking and unsticking several cycles.
Here's a short list of some potential fixes I foresee taking care of while in there, how to :
1. The door ajar light. Mine went out over a decade ago, and the gallon of WD40 I sprayed into the latch did NOT fix it. In fact, it turned it from an intermittent issue into a permanent problem. I'd like to fix it now, as I miss having a light at night when the door is open. How do I fix it? Links, part numbers, tips, pictures, videos, search terms... all info welcome.
2. Bottom door rust. I don't really have much, but I see very faint hints of paint bubbling under the lower door weatherstrip barrier, which I have also removed. I've read about two schools of thought on preventative maintenance.
A. Pour oil or grease into the bottom of the door.
B. POR15 paint in the bottom of the door.
So basically, oil or paint? Obviously, one can't paint if one does oil, but on the other hand, some say that paint... especially thick paint like POR15, can actually do more harm than good by trapping moisture in the bottom pinch flange, or by creating craters or tunnels where water can burrow and then get trapped, rotting the metal away. What are your thoughts and experiences on this? I'd prefer a solution that minimizes the number of times I have to unstick the interior liner from the door.
3. I'm doubling the lower door weatherstrip with a combination of the older and newer designs. Ford sells the weatherstrip with clips attached, but neither those clips, nor the original clips, are really effective for what I'm trying to do. I've already done the rear doors, and made it work with the original clips, but they are brittle, and I lost a couple to breakage. Today, I broke three clips pulling the old weatherstrip off of the door.
I can't find these clips anywhere locally... I've tried every variety the auto parts and auto body stores sell, and Ford doesn't sell these clips separately from the weatherstrip... and even if Ford did, they OEM clips are not long enough to hold the double deployment of old and new styles of weatherstripping.
In searching this issue, it appears that a lot of people have broken these clips, which stands to reason with plastic in baking inside a hot door for 15 years. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would benefit from finding a good source of automotive clips.
4. Mirrors. I'm finally getting around to this, and this is what motivated the door panel removal in the first place. I need the dog bone harness that converts from a round connector to the flat style connector. Specifically, I need part numbers 1C3Z-14A411-AA and 1C3Z-14A411-BA. Ford didn't originally sell these dogbone harnesses separately, but included with the purchase of newer style outside rear view mirrors in case the translation harness was needed. Sometimes it was, sometimes it wasn't, so there would often be these unused harnesses left over.
5. Jimmy Jammers. Will they cause more harm than good? Does a better alternative exist? Thinking of installing these while I"m in there, but worried the door will be damaged worse as the thief tries to fight their way in. And, with body on shell doors, there appears to be much easier ways to break into an SD anyway, so part of me thinks, why bother

View 3 RepliesWhile I was driving home tonight, i rolled over something essentially ripped off part of the inner fender on the front driver's side. I think it might be a two or three piece set for the inner fender. the front section that protects some fluid tank and the headlight stuff is now gone. the top and rear pieces are damaged. I will post photos/videos tomorrow during daytime when I remove the remaining pieces (can't drive with them in). I don't know if there are any differences between the various years, but I do have a 2015.

I can't tell if this line is 1 piece towards the reservoir since its hidden from my quick inspection. Looking for a schematic on replacing this line?

I completely tore the old custom interior out of my excursion yesterday to replace it with a stock interior. I am trying to decide if I want to put an aftermarket vinyl floor in, have the entire floor sprayed with line x, or roll in herculiner myself. I will put rubber mats in also.

Trying to look via search and many threads to see how much work is involved to replace this tiny bulb. The car is due a service shortly and i could get the VW dealer to sort this out but is this going to be something daft like 3hours labour/bumper removal or is it an easy DIY?
This is the first thing to 'fail' in 2.5 years of owenership and not one that needs immediate remedy but would like to sort it out. Presumably i can buy the bulb cheaply enough from VW or Halfords as its not HID etc.
So, I can get a 2003 that has a bashed door. Question is, putting in a salvage yard door will have another car's VIN tag on it. How can it be transferred, or is it even an issue? Just scrape off the wrong one?

Any tips as far as getting to the actual bulb? It looks pretty cramped in that area.
I have the adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel. Any special steps needed for this headlight?
I did the search for this and there seems to be a link that details how to remove the driver's side headlight bulb housing which is different than the passenger side. I got that side replaced with no problem but the driver's side seems to be a pain to remove.

If I can figure out how to get the door pillar trim off can I replace this seatbelt or is it incorporated into the airbag system and requires special munitions skills?

The parts have already been ordered and I know that in order to replace it I have to take off the door panel, but I honestly know nothing about how to do that.

It looks like I am going to have to replace my front driver's side power window regulator soon - it is making a bad sound when I power the window down and also the window glass seems to be loose and clunking when I close the door with the window partially or all the way down. These may be two separate issues. I think the motor itself is fine.
In looking at replacement window regulators I see two options. The lower cost option ($50-70) is to just by the regulator cable/pulley/gear assembly.

So, my question is, once I have the door apart and the glass out, is it relatively easy to install a new cable/pulley/gear regulator assembly, or would I be better off buying a pre-installed regulator on a new metal plate?
I know how to take the door apart as I have done this before to change out the door lock/latch module.
Looking for info on these replacements and is there any manuals out there to assist with the process?
View 1 RepliesFound a chevy 2500 4x4 single cab, 1999 with the 6.0. I wanted to buy it when I found out it has 270k and makes a clunk sound under the driver fender when the 4x4 is engaged. Owner says it runs great and doesn't leak any oil..... Should I consider 270k too many miles? I figure the clunk is a CV joint I might can replace on my own.
