I replaced one bad module and seemed to run fine for a 3 or 4 miles, but now getting red triangle and a yellow exclamation mark with no codes showing up (using Torque app) and car goes in and out of a weak sputter just like it did before I replaced the bad module. What to do next.
View 19 RepliesI was driving on the freeway in houston yesterday and it was about 30 degrees. The low temperature light was on... Does it make a difference when it is cold? Why would there be a light to tell u that it is cold outside?
Anyways as I was driving on the freeway the red triangle with an exclamation mark came on and disappeared. Then a minute later it went on again and on the navi screen shows high coolant temperature symbol on it. But then it would turn off right away too so is this normal because I was kind of slowing down on the freeway and the book did say something but I don't think it was an excessive speed or anything.
So at about 147k miles, triangle comes on. It's the icon on the right with the car and exclam! mark through it. Turned off radio. listened to car and I could swear that it was running differently, but it might be in my head (I was kind of freaking). Drove to my Prius guy in the I.E. (20 miles) car seemed to act OK. Was using elec engine when needed and gas engine was fine. Was a bit shocked by how good the car was running but I was sure something sinister was happening and at any minute the car would melt. After 1.5 hours and a 20 mile test drive.
View 9 RepliesI've got a 2009 Prius with 67k miles on it. The car has a salvage title, but has given me over 20k+ worry free miles. The past few days the car has been acting a bit odd (i'm not sure if these are related or not but I figured I'd just throw it out there as well).... The right front headlight has been on the fritz as well as the wireless door opener has been working sparsely (sometime it wont lock, sometimes it will). I just ran the test to make sure teh 12V battery was okay, and all of the voltages came back in the "normal" range.
View 17 RepliesYesterday, started it up, began backing down the driveway, controlling speed with a little pressure on the brake. There was momentary weirdness, like the brakes had sort-of let go, then gripped again. And then got the warning "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" and a yellow triangle (inverted?) with exclamation mark.
I tried maybe 3 restarts, but the warning persisted. Phoned the dealership, booked-up Saturday, but they said they'd (commendably) squeeze it in. So we brought it in, when they eventually got to it they read the codes, cleared them, test drive, said it appeared the computer(s) "lost contact" momentarily, and it seemed ok.
I got in and started driving home, down the back lane first. Car started making a VERY strange buzzing sound, coming from under the hood. By the end of the lane I decided I better circle back to the dealership, pulled in at the curb in front, left it running and raised the hood, the hood support rod was loose, laying over the engine, doing a dance.
I have 2011 prius 1800cc.
My car dashboard display come ORANGE TRIANGLE WITH EXCLAMATION MARK light and message "HYBRID SYSTEM CHECK". Car has no problem in drive, every thing works but display computer (check consumption graph Charging wheel etc.) does not show.
When I press start, display button shows charging graph consumption etc, only for few seconds and go to msg check hybrid system.
This morning I started my 2008 Prius (approx. 31k miles) and found the big red triangle with an exclamation mark and check engine light turned on.
I drove my car <1 mile to a smog check station where they ran a diagnostic on it and came back with the P0A9C code.
A quick internet search turns up that this is "HYBRID BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR "A" RANGE/PERFORMANCE."
I have a Hyundai 2013 Santa Fe limited with a warning symbol on the LED screen showing an exclamation mark in triangle (orange or yellow) that I cannot find any info on in the owners manual..
View 32 RepliesI just acquired our second Prius, a beautiful 2002 (Gen1 in the USA) with 90k miles. On the dash, I get the red triangle of death with the exclamation point inside it. On the computer info screen, I have an icon of a car with an exclamation point in it and it reads "problem". I have connected the OBDII reader to it and it does not have any codes. Nothing in the history, or in the current or pending. The car has full power and runs fine, but has the stupid RTOD.
View 19 RepliesFor the past 3 days my warning light has come on. Just the exclamation mark....nothing else lights up...it flashed quickly then goes off. It seems to do this when I go around a corner. I thought nothing of it the first time it did this. However, today is the 3rd time it flashed. I have not gone out and checked that but I will. It is just strange that no other light comes on.
View 19 RepliesToday i had my front discs and pads changed on my 07 prius and after putting it all back correctly I went to drive the car and my abs , vsc and both exclamation marks where lit up , I've read that this is common and a quick reset on a diagnostic machine should shift them ? Is this correct ?

Today , while driving , Red exclamation mark , yellow exclamation mark appeared on dashboard , and red car with sign on the main LCD screen.
I am driving smoothly on the highway, doing about 60km/hr, with my A/C working on a full. Suddenly, the check engine and emergency brake light comes up on the HUD along with a beeping sounding. A pull over, and smell a bad odor - like burning rubber - coming out of the hood. I checked and the car was immensely heated and there was smoke rising from a small rubber tube right next to the fuse box under the hood. I turned off the car.
Whenever I would turn the car back on, the smoke would start coming back. I checked several times. I couldn't find out where the smoke was coming from.
When the car cooled down a bit, I checked the radiator. The coolant level was a bit low so I filled up with the water. I also noticed that the radiator fans were not working, even when I turn the A/C on. So I called a towing company and got my car back to my garage.
Now the car heats up after running for a bit and the big exclamation mark sign comes on. The check engine light also comes on. But when the car cools down, the lights go away. I am thinking that the problem has something to do with overheating and the radiator fans not working.
After coming back from a two week vacation, I tried to start my 2002 sedan toyota prius; and it would not start. The master warning light came on, and then on the screen, the third icon (the farthest right) was blinking in red, it was an outline of a car with an exclamation mark in the middle of it. It does the same thing each time I try to jump it. However, at the same time, after jumping it, the battery seems to be fine, meaning that the display and radio start up fine, but soon after cranking the key, the engine seems to shut off. I bought the car used, so I don't have an owners manual or anything of that sort.
View 1 RepliesI've been using my prius 2008 very smoothly till today. It was 100F+ in Austin and very hot. The car, suddenly lit up all the warning lights: Engine, Red Exclamation, Hybrid, and brake lights. The brakes kept beeping on both sides. I also heard an engine noise that is quite uncommon for prius. I stopped the car in a parking lot.
I came back in an hour and tried to start the car. I only saw 2 lights now: Red Exclamation, and Engine check. It might some "click" noise when I started, and after that it was fine. I drove for a while and everything was fine but the 2 warning lights were still on. I tried starting and stopping few times. I did experience the clicks (1-2) and the engine noise. The engine noise lasted 15-30 seconds and then it was back to normal.
I followed the youtube video to look up the diagnostics (Display pressed + lights on/off 3 times) to check the 12V battery. It read 13.8 V. I recently had an oil change at Toyota dealership less than 500 miles back. So I am baffled at this point. I have about ~60K miles and it's a 2008 model. So if it's a hybrid battery issue, I am covered.
I just bought a 2006 prius. It had 2 bad cells in the battery pack. I replaced the cells and all seems to be well, they all read the same voltage and the car appears to be driving, charging, working.
I still have the red exclamation mark and check engine light. The only code I get says to replace hybrid battery pack.
There are no other specific codes or issues and it runs perfect. Basically I guess what I am asking is how to clear the light or figure out why the light is still on!
"Yellow exclamation point in brackets is on. Squiggly line below mark. What does this mean?" I did some research and everyone says tire pressure, yet all my tires are the right pressure... SO could it mean something else? I would look at the owners manual, but unfortunately don't have it...
View 12 RepliesDriving my 2008 with 189,000 miles on the congested "freeway" the ominous red triangle and the yellow exclamation next to it just lit up. A quick scan of the OBD showed no error codes and good auxiliary battery, engine coolant Temps etc. And good gas mileage, engine vacuum. I had replaced the spark plugs with new iridium two months ago. When I stopped and checked the hybrid converter had good levels and turbulent flow. The oil had been changed a week ago and checked again at lunchtime. Now only the red triangle shows.

View 3 RepliesMy Prius has about 145K miles on it and use it on a daily 130 mi round trip commute. Recently, a I got a Red Triangle w/ Exclamation Point and the displayed showed "Problem". I took the car to the dealership and they stated the problem was caused from a low oil level. The dealership changed the oil and I was good to go. 3k miles later, I got the same error and noticed my oil level was low once again. It seems that my Prius is burning oil at rate of 1 quart per 2500 miles driven. What can be causing this? Are there any remedies I can try before changing out the piston rings?
View 19 RepliesI am getting the red triangle and the little car with exclimation point on the MFD. Interestingly all of the amber lights are on and the brake light is on BUT the parking brake is not set.
Here is what happened --my hybrid battery died a few weeks ago so I ordered a replacement through Summit Racing (Dorman Battery). The car started and drove but I had to rest codes to keep it alive (just to get it home). Last moved it 3 weeks ago and removed the old battery.
So long story short -- while I was waiting for the new battery I repaired some other issues -- BTW I am not new to this, I have the tools and have done these repairs on conventional cars many times.
1. Leaking axle seals -- replaced L and R seals
2. replaced L and R half axles (drivers side was rough so replaced both)
3. Found drivers side wheel bearing to be rough so replaced L and R hubs
4. Replaced L and R struts and strut mounts.
5. Drained and refilled trans axle with Toyota W (TF) 4 qts
6. Installed new 12v battery (currently producing 13.4v)
7. Replaced rear struts.
8. Replaced L and R front rotors and shoes -- they were off anyway so why not. No loss of fluid!
9. Removed and cleaned most interior parts -- door panels, seats etc...
Installed new HV battery and fired her up to the usual wheezing, whining and clicking sounds. But NO engine -- just the triangle -- problem statement and and the other above issues.
Checked the following -- inverter pump is circulating nicely, though maybe battery electronics -- so I placed the old battery back in (it was started with the old one 3 weeks ago) -- nope same issue so not those electronics. Traced all wires, plugs and connectors related to hybrid system -- all seem to be in place.
