My 2007 Prius with 176k had the warning lights on the dash. I finally got the code read and it is the P0A80 code. The 12 volt battery seems good, it is about a year and a half old or so. That was the only code.

Plan is to check the traction battery for corrosion and use a voltmeter to test the cells and replace if needed. Prius 2004, 158,000.
My Prius has started throwing the code P0A80, it all happened after I went away for work and left the car in storage for 15 days, during that time I left the OBD scanner plugged in and it drained the 12v battery, a quick jump start and it was back up and running.
While I was backing it out of the driveway the warning triangle came on and the MFD said "problem" the scanner showed the P0A80 code. I thought that was odd, but maybe related to the flat 12v battery and self discharge of the traction battery so I reset the code, it drove normally to the shops. When I restarted it and started to drive it threw the same code again.
I then installed techstream on my laptop to try and get some more in depth answers but was having trouble getting that running on Windows 8. So overnight I disconnected the 12v battery and would try again in the morning.
I got techstream working and connected it up to the car, connected the 12v and started it. While I was configuring techstream to graph the pack voltages I noticed something odd, the engine was being loaded and unloaded in 2 second cycles, and at the same time the inverter was whining as it does this. I was thinking maybe it's doing some sort of charge and measure cycle since the ECU's have lost any pack data due to the power loss of the 12v battery?
It ran like this for 20 mins or so and the engine stopped, techstream showed pretty normal cell voltages, I couldn't see any wild differences between the cells.
I had just picked my kid up from school, as I turn out of the parking lot my A/C stops blowing cool air, I check the A/C screen and it still says it's set on High with temp at 68. However, it is blowing very low with warm air. Seconds later the dash lights up with numerous warning lights. I'm on the highway and I'm able to gather speed, but each time I do I hear the engine revving like crazy. We only live a few miles from the school so I am able to make it home. Once home, I turn off the car and turn it back on. The only warning lights displayed now are the red triangle and the yellow check engine light. I turn the car off, pop the hood, I check the belt and it was fine. I checked the oil and it seemed fine. I check the coolant overflow and it was empty.
View 15 RepliesMy 2006 is doing some weird things. I have gone through a couple of HV failures and each time if I got the P0A80 code there was always an additional code telling me what was wrong. Not this time. Some times the battery will sit there while it shows that it is being charged and not take a charge. i.e. not come up off the pink bars, Sometimes it will charge all the way up to green and then fall off dramatically This is really strange because it is not showing any other code other than a crank cam sensor. The 12 volt battery seems to be ok.

I was wondering what is the most affordable route for my car to get repaired. I don't notice any mpg differences and everything still charges and recharges as if the errors don't exist.

View 3 RepliesWas driving home from school yesterday and my 2005 Prius turned the check engine light on and the red triangle light. Plugged into the scan tool it read: P0a80. I have a hybrid battery ordered. It should be delivered on Tuesday. How long can I get out of this failing battery before the car is undriveable? The Prius is my only vehicle and I don't have a problem with installing the battery, I just I'm wondering if the car will just drop dead on me before the battery gets here? The car appears to be driving normally with no loss of performance or MPG.

View 19 RepliesI had a 12v battery issue that I see common. 12V battery does not crank car. Jump car and works fine for a few days. I had this issue and it went away. Dealer said replace 12v battery, or just carry my charger pack with and use that unless it gets worse.
Jump ahead 2 months. I drive 50 miles each way to work 5 days a week. No issues. Yesterday, after my car sitting all day, I am backing out of driveway and get the red triangle. Code was P0A80. I looked it up. I cleared the code and was going to dealer if it came back. Today, after driving 50 miles into work, no issues, I get the red triangle. Code P3021. Fan started running back there too
My question : Would replacing the 12v battery useful for this issue?
Have replaced dead cells on wife's HV battery over a month ago. Threw this P0a80 code today and will barely move. She idles into dealership and they say it's the battery, really!

Today I drove for about 20 minutes with no issue. 10 minutes later, I got back in the car to drive again. This time, after about 20 seconds into the drive, a string of dash lights came on; Red triangle, VSC, Check engine.
The VSC light went away. But the red triangle and check engine light are still on. So, I had the trouble codes pulled by a mechanic, and the code P0A80 was returned along with a statement reading 'replace hybrid battery'.
Should I take this at face value? Or look for something else first?
2007 Prius - 150,000 miles
I have 2005 Prius with 300k miles. I started throwing P0A80 code. I removed the battery and checked all the modules and found 2 of low voltage, ordered them from Ebay and replaced them. I placed the battery back in the car and started the car but got P0A80 code again. I purchased the grid charger from Hybrid Automotive and connected it according to their instructions for 24 hours. I drove a car but got the red triangle again and P0A80 code again. I removed the battery again and tested the voltage of all the modules and these are the readings:
View 4 RepliesMy partner drove the Prius with 54,000 miles to work this morning as he always does. So he is on lunch and sent me a text saying some warning lights appeared on the dash while he was sitting at a red light. I asked if he had any loss of power, if the battery fan was running, he said it drove normally. We bought it last summer with 44,000 miles from a Toyota dealer. They said it had a new inverter pump. It has the original 12v battery however. Though it doesn't act weak at all. No issues this winter at all.
Note, the battery in the photo is at 1 bar. I asked him about it and he said he was driving aggressively to work today, which includes a 2 mile 6% climb he said he made at a high rate of speed... Though after the exit, he has another mile to work.. So the battery should have built itself up before him parking it.
There's an ad for a car quite far away from me and one of the photos shows the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Is this normal during power-up or is it normal when there's something quite wrong?! There is no red triangle of doom shown; I'm unsure if that might be out of shot though. Car is quite high mileage with just over 270,000 km on the clock and is from 2006.
View 2 RepliesI bought a 2006 Prius with a diagnosed bad battery and tons of warning lights lit on the dash. Toyota had diagnosed a bad hybrid batt and ECU. (I have not replaced the ECU). The car was driving and running fine otherwise.
View 12 RepliesThis morning when I started my Prius 3rd Gen 2011, I noticed three yellow lights being on. These were; something similar to handbrake light, ABS light and then the stability control light. All are in yellow. Checked tire pressure and found that one tire was low and filled it. Also, brake fluid was near the low level and I topped it. The lights are still on. I switched on and off several times but the lights are still on.
View 4 RepliesMy Prius yesterday while driving slowly (under 10 mph) all the dash warning lights came on(triangle, cel, trac control, brake). the gas engine started and the message came on that says: "check hybrid system". Today when I went out to check there only two warning lights on (triangle and cel) with the same message displayed. My question is can the vehicle operate without damaging anything if I drive it as is? I have read on several threads that the engine will not start if the hybrid motor(s) are not working. Since my engine starts and runs I have to believe the motor(s) are working.
View 19 RepliesGen II Prius, 151000 miles, HV battery died (rapid charging / discharging, cooling fan on high constantly, etc) Installed remanufactured HV battery. Connect it all back up, test drive, get the triangle of death, VSC, amber (!), and MIL on MFD. Car continues to drive normally until shutdown, upon next startup lights still present and won't shift into D or R only N. Pull codes, POAA6 is showing.
Code doesn't reset with car in ign on (not ready) after 60 seconds, make car ready and shift immediately to N. Code resets after 30 sec. Have done this trouble shooting 4 times and code always resets with ready on and in N. This points to the HV 'leak' being either in the wiring harness or the inverter. What I can do next in order to figure out which one?
Driving home today, my prius threw the triangle and all the other warning lights. Scanned with my scan gauge got code u0100. I was only a mile from home so attempted to drive it. Car made it 1/4 mile and then died. I had it towed to the house and checked the grounding wires going to the engine and transaxle. The Tranaxle grounding wire was loose so i pushed it together tightly. The car now runs on main battery only, the ICE does not fire up. All warning lights are still present. Nav screen says problem. 12v is good.
