My 2007 Prius MFD is black 98% of the time. Every once in a while the screen will come on and function properly for a short period of time then go out again. It appears to be a bad connection.

How to change so that it automatically changes to black when in night time ?
I have an 07 and replaced the HV battery. Before swapping battery, I had Red Triangle, (!), VSC, Check Engine (took car to dealer who diagnosed it as needing HV battery). Now new battery is in but error-icons remain. The LCD display shows battery as more that half-charged. I connected an old Actron ODB2 scanner (circa 2000), but it doesn't Read any codes and doesn't Erase the codes causing the problem.
View 5 RepliesI just bought a 2012 Prius 3 and sold my wife's BMW 3. I still have my X5 though and one of the convenience I'm missing in the Prius is having the cigarette lighter adapter always supplying power even though the ignition is in 0 position and key out of the socket as in my X5.
View 3 RepliesI have 2004 prius, 100,400 miles. No problems ever and all of a sudden, driving as usual, vsc, brake, !, and alarm buzzer on the entire time car is running or door opens. Brake seems harder to stop now. Right rear wheel is grinding when brakes are applied. jerks a bit at slow stops.
View 19 RepliesI just purchased a 2006 Prius with 89k miles and it has a problem with the drive train and randomly losing all power on the freeway causing me to make emergency shoulder stops to reset the car.
The symptoms are as follows:
-red triangle on, orange circle with ! on, check engine light on, hybrid monitor green car symbol is red with ! in it
-traction battery fan is always on when car is powered
-the car has never driven under electric power
-shifting problems, sluggish acceleration and all power loss on freeway
-hybrid monitor system lies and shows the battery full one second and empty the next.
Just got my Prius III last week and I've noticed that every time I leave the car, the bluetooth on my phone shows its still connected, even though the car is off and I'm no where near it. What's worse is that when I return to the car, it doesn't reconnect. So I'm not sure if its the phone or the car. I had bluetooth in my Tacoma for years and it worked fine, so it has to have something to do with the car. Its a Droid 4.
View 11 RepliesWe have a 2013 Prius V and I would like to find out if AC is always on while in split windshield/floor mode for the ventilation system. We have the AC turned off most of the time and when you switch the vent mode to split windshield/floor the little AC button light does not come on, but does that mean it is truly off? Every other car I've driven turns on AC in the vent position.
Hoping we aren't inadvertently harming our gas mileage by leaving the system in that vent position.
As others have mentioned, changes you make to the time don't stick. My clock is always off an hour. Someone suggested changing the time zone setting to compensate for this. I've tried multiple time zones and the clock is always off an hour (either fast or slow).
View 5 RepliesI removed one of the cd's out of the dash unit and the nav display screen remains opened and won't close. I tried turning the vehicle off and on, nothing happened, so then I attempted to remove the 2nd cd that was in the changer and it slides out, but immediately slides back in.

View 17 RepliesWhen I get near the driver's door on my 2008 Prius in attempt to unlock the door, nothing happens. However, when I get near the passenger door or the rear hatch, they will both open but the car chirps 5 times. The driver's door remains locked. It's not the battery in the key FOB, because if it was, no doors would open unless I remove the key from the FOB and physically open the door the "traditional" way.
View 19 RepliesI've been told by friends driving behind me that every time I accelerate I emit a plume of black smoke followed by a stream of black colored "water". I checked today by having the wife rev the engine to 4.5k...sure enough, black water shoots out of my exhaust, probably 3 oz. I also see a black puff of smoke which I assume is more normal than the water. Is this commonplace ?

View 11 RepliesDriving last night, I heard this horrible scraping sound from time to time, but I couldn't stop right away. When I got home, I saw that the bottom cover (or whatever the proper name for it is) had come loose at the left front -- I assume from hitting the ground once too often (damn this low clearance). I took a pic, but it's not too clear. The front edge is frayed a bit.

View 7 RepliesIf I lift the carpeting on the left side of the trunk and lift the panel, there is a black box with a threaded stud sticking up. There is no fastener on this stud. This may be the mount for the flux capacitor, an option I chose not to get.
View 5 RepliesRecently the keyless entry buttons (lock, unlock, panic) buttons stopped working. The red light still came on (strong), but car wouldn't unlock. The key still works for starting the car, but having to use the manual key to enter.
What I have tried:
Ensured this is Option Package 1 car, no push button to disable the SKS from under the dash Tried the reprogramming steps here in this post (though I would say they are not 100% clear) Read the owner manual pages 20-40 Gave up and spent $5 on another CR2032 battery (did not work).
During a recent vacation, while driving at night, the MPH display went black. I completed the drive to the hotel, resolving to change the fuse in the morning. When I started the car in the morning, the display was still black. I checked the fuse I thought should be involved (#22), but it was good. The MPG / MPG screen was still bad. Not wanting to drive an additional 400 miles back home without a speedometer, I called the closest dealership to get an appointment. The 2010 has 33K miles on it .
When we packed up and started the car for the trip to the dealer, everything was working. One week later and all is good. I plan on getting this anomaly recorded with Toyota just in case it happens again after the warrantee runs out.
I am due to make a 400 mile round trip business trip today. Go out and start the car, and the screen display is black. The MFD. None of the buttons on it work, either - I have the beep ON, no beep. I turned it off, waited about 1 minute and tried again, still nothing. Went for a short drive (took the dogs to the park where they can run), it was off for about 35 minutes. Still nothing for the short drive back home. I mean short, this is less than 2 miles one way.
I can still access the a/c and the radio from the steering wheel. I can see my speed, fuel etc, that is fine. It is just the display monitor. This came out of the blue, I have not noticed any issues at all.
