Prius (Gen 2) :: Hit Pothole - Rim Has A Big Dent And Tire Is All Ripped Up
Dec 6, 2010
This evening in the dark I hit a pothole. I did not see it. It is a busy 3 lane road. Changed my tire. The rim has a big dent in it and the tire is all ripped up.
How much a new tire and rim for a 2008 Prius is going to cost? We looked underneath the car and the other parts seem ok.

It's my first time experiencing a flat tire after hitting a pothole. I was on the Long Island Expressway in Queens, NY on Saturday evening after watching The Amazing Spiderman 2. It was about 12:15 AM, and there were still a lot of cars on the road. (and they were fast!!!) I wasn't aware and hit a pothole, and I immediately heard a loud "BANG" noise from the left wheel. I switched on the tire pressure indicator on the dashboard right afterward, and the air pressure started decreasing. Luckily, I was able to find an exit early and pulled over on local road to check the car. I swapped out the flat tire with the spare and went home safely with my girlfriend.
* I was surprised that the Bridgestone Turanza was able to hold up with 0 air pressure, without letting the rim rolling and touching on the ground.
* Rim is fine - no bent, no scratch
* Took the wheel to a tire shop and discovered that there must be some sharp edges in the pothole, which teared the side of the tire for about 2 inches (right underneath the tip of the rim). Total replacement with installation - $290. Shop ordered a brand new tire (same model) and I will return on Monday to get the tire fixed.
1) How do I check whether the suspension is okay?
2) The tire pressure indicator on the gauge shows nothing now - all 4 wheels. I'm not sure what's going on. I still have the spare wheel on, so I'm not sure whether this is causing the issue.
3) Where is the tire pressure sensor located? When I return to the tire shop on Monday, will the tire guy know how to swap out the bad tire with the new one without messing up with the tire pressure sensor in there?

I hit a pothole on I 55 going about 70 mph and the ABS/tire pressure lights went on. My gut feeling is that this is not serious, as the car is 14 years old (131,000 miles) and runs well. Figure it's just a sensor or connection issue or something like that. Is there a way that I can test to see if my ABS has stopped working without going to a mechanic? The tire pressure light comes on now and then at high speeds and usually means nothing.

So I hit a pothole driving on the freeway a few weeks back and I have a small sidewall bubble developing on the right rear tire. I am asking around and apparently none of the shops carry tire shavers anymore.
Since our car is AWD my understanding is that depending on how much the difference is, they can either replace 1, or 2 (same axle) or have to replace all 4 tires.
Also is there any chance in hell since these are OEM tires that came with the car that VW would be of any assistance with the replacement of the tire?

I have a 1997 F250 Light Duty with a 5.4L and 4 wheel drive, 216,000 miles. Last year one of my front tire chains broke and ripped the ABS wire. I have soldered them back together and no longer have the ABS light illuminated in the dash. However, when I apply the brakes at speeds slower than 25 mph, the ABS pulses. Over 25 mph the brakes work as they should until almost stopped and then they pulse.

I was in a low-ceiling car garage when I opened the trunk of my Black 2010 Prius and it hit a copper pipe in the ceiling and got this ding. I attached a pic of it. I'm now desperate in trying to figure out how to repair it - either through a scratch remover or touch-out paint.

I have a small dent on the rear door edge. How do they repair those dents? Do I need to go to the body shop or just a rubber hummer and touch up paint? The paid on the edge is gone and metal edge is showing, scratched.

I just recently bought a 2014 Prius v and it has a scrape/dent on the roof that has some rust (I knew about it going into the purchase). I was quoted around $700 to get it repaired, but I am wondering how difficult it might be for me to fix it on my own. My reasoning is that this vehicle is going to be used for road trips and car camping, in addition to being my daily driver, so I expect that it will get fairly dinged up over the course of my ownership. I'm not super concerned about the dent, mainly just the rust. So if possible, I'm hoping to save some money on the repair and just remove the rust and paint the effected area. Also, with it being on the roof it's not something that stands out that much so I'm not looking for the perfect visual repair.

This may be by design but while cleaning my car running my hand w dry cloth over steering wheel I noticed a slight bump. To the left of the Toyota logo. I'm not sure if it's on purpose so if the airbag deploys it breaks away but I just noticed it. it's a 2015 Prius 3. Rather not have the airbag go off while driving.

While bucking a 30+ headwind on the highway @ 70mph, hit a pothole, got a check engine light and engine died. Traffic heavy and dangerous so I stayed on electric power longer than I should have to get off onto a service road. Determined my 12 volt battery terminals were very loose from vibration, I'm assuming. But now the car will not stay running when started. SOC shows 2.5%, main battery 0 volts.
Towed home, recharged main battery to 7.3vdc per module, yet car still shows same SOC and will not stay running. Currently, disconnected 12 volt battery overnight to see if things look better after system sits disconnected for several hours.

Why the Prius seems to "jump" or gain momentum when I go over an unexpected large bump or pothole?

I am leaning towards replacing my '08 wheel that his a slight crack in it from a pothole. I might consider repairing it but i know little about how repair works and whether it holds up and is safe.

While I was pulling out my charger from the port of my brand new 2013 Prius Two, the whole plastic housing the auxiliary/charger ripped off. Nothing was damaged, nor was any plastic bits pulled off. It just came apart. I tried for so long trying to put it back in, but to no avail. Here's the picture on Imgur: [URL] ....

While driving on a flat road last night my prius felt like it hit something - the car looks fine and no warning lights came. It felt like I hit a massive pothole and then nothing.

My car's driver's side tire looks almost flat as one of my co-workers indicated first but the tire pressure light is NOT on. Should I worry about it and get it checked out?

Does the prius v TMPS shows you the pressure in each tire or just give you a warning when one of the tire is low. How many MPG do we gain if we over inflate the tire to the max possible.

Do cold weathers cause tires to deflate? On my way to school today I noticed the tire pressure light. I've had the car only for 3-4 weeks. Never had any issues with it.

Backing out of a parking spot today and as I was turning I just bumped into one of those yellow concrete pylons (obviously didn't know it was there). So mad at myself right now. I was planning on hitting up the dealership's collision department tomorrow and a local bodyshop to see what they'd charge for either popping the fender back out or if I'd be better off getting a new OEM fender. I'm sure I'll be neurotic about this until it's fixed - and even then I'll want to make sure it's not noticeable at all. There's a slight paint chip on the bumper where the fender meets the bumper, I'm hoping that's easily fixable as well.

The 96 Caravan I bought a year ago came equipped with an aftermarket dent in the oil pan. It's a bent up generally flat, not all at one point, but there's no leak and no other apparent problem, though of course it does reduce the oil capacity. When I had some overdue warranty work done at a dealer, the service writer told me the dent is exactly where the the oil pickup is, which mostly sounded like the dealer looking for some extra work. I decided I'd replace the pan myself when I had enough miles on the car to see if it was worth the effort.
The pan has a lower sump area that measures roughly 5" x 7" and that entire portion is pushed up somewhat evenly. I'd estimate the deepest part of the deformation is almost an inch, so less than 35 cubic inches lost capacity. 35 cu in = .606 quart.
I can buy a new oil pan w/ gasket at Rock Auto for a shade over fifty bucks to add to an order I otherwise need to place with them. A used pan at the local junkyard would cost ten or twenty bucks plus my labor plus the gasket, which I judge as not enough cheaper to be worth my time and inconvenience (they want me to capture the used oil and take it with me). So it's either buy the new oil pan, or fix something else. Or pull the pan, bend it back to shape, and replace the gasket? It appears to me that the pan gasket may be seeping, though not enough to drip, so it's probably due for a gasket anyway.
Should I care about this, or learn to love the dent?

Well, I'm not quite sure what happened, but while driving on the highway today my belly pan decided it was time to move on with life and detached 98% of itself from my car at 80. I pulled over and it was only hanging on by 1 screw so I had to rip it the rest of the way off since I didn't have any tools in the car.
with the way the OEM belly pan came off, the plastic was broken in several places (screws stayed with the car) and in other places the screws stripped out and were still attached to the pan itself. If I order a new belly pan from ECS and associated hardware, will a tech be able to install it if the holes are stripped/there is damage underneath the car?
I know a lot of people run without the belly pan, but I would prefer to have one installed, figure I can't be the first guy to replace a broken one, right?

As you can clearly see the hose just kinda ripped. Looks like an oil return line? What would cause this. I check it out once my CEL popped up. still under warranty but I'd have to swap DV's first.
