I'm a proud owner of a 2005 prius which until recently ran flawlessly. For the past 2 mos, one of both of the headlights randomly turn off at nighttime. If I turn the knob off, then back on, they both work.
View 7 RepliesI recently purchased an 05 prius pack 4, it has an Auto mode on the headlight switch that does not work. as in the headlights do not turn on in pitch black night... From the searches I have done it appears that the car should not have auto headlights and yet it has the switch... I dont think its canadian because it does not have DRLs... if some models DO have auto headlights then what would cause them to not work.
View 3 Replies2004 Prius. Sometimes, quite randomly, the headlights will turn off. Sometimes its both, sometimes its the left only, and sometimes its the right only. This affects both main and high beams. The dash lights and tail lights may still be on (panicking doesn't give me time to confirm that), but for sure the Nav panel is still lit.
The first time this happened was when I was driving on a mountain road at night in the rain. It now happens almost every night and I have confirmed that it also happens in daytime. Road conditions (bumpy/smooth, wet/dry, dark/well lit) do not seem to be a factor.
At least once while still in my garage, when I started the car the left light was out. I can get the lights to turn back on by turning them off all the way and then back on. Nothing else works. I have replaced the relay for the lights - that didn't change anything.
I really like that my headlights are always on but I can't figure out how to turn them off at night, for those rare occasions at the drive-in theater.
View 5 RepliesMy v will be 3 years old soon, and it has developed various electronics problem.
1. Night time GPS screen got so dark - now use Day time all the time as I learned that this was the prevailing issue.
2. The dealer swapped the GPS screen trying to fix the GPS screen issue. After the swap, I cannot switch back and forth between the map screen and audio screen. Once I am using the map, it just is a matter of luck to go back to the audio screen.
3. After using the windshield washer, the wipers do not come out automatically.
Now here is my problem - the problem 2 and 3 occur 98% of times - not 100% of times. When I took the car to the dealer, it was one of the 2% time and they could move back and force between the map and audio screen. Despite the fact that I showed them the video, the dealer said that they could not do anything as they could not duplicate the problem.
I am going to bring the car in again and tell them of the new problem 3. It was also videotaped.
I have a 2010 Model I with only 19K miles on it (purchased new). For the past year or so, at any time throughout the night it will give out 5 beeps for apparently no reason. I have reset the system by disconnecting the alternate battery and have used a PocketScan Plus to test the systems which shows no problems.

View 11 RepliesMy van has 90,000 miles. I am having problems with my headlights not turning on, then when they finally turn on, they will go off randomly. My power door locks have also stopped working. Last night, I found my tail light cover has come off. How can I put that back on? Lastly, my heater only works for a minute, then the air is cold.
View 3 RepliesSo after a pretty harsh storm last night I was driving today and my wipers came on. Went to turn them off and nothing. My headlights and turn signals won't work either. When I pull the stalk to turn my high beams on my wipers go off. Parked the car and the dash lights stay on without my key and the wipers randomly go on and off. The blinkers in the rear remain lit with the car off as well. At work right now so nothing came up when I searched briefly but do any of you have any insight as to why my car is possessed? Going to check grounds when I get home.
View 4 RepliesSo far three times this week the factory alarm went off in the middle of the night. This happened before and the problem just went away. I have pulled the fuse for the horn so I can at least get some sleep.
How to troubleshoot this? Bringing it to the deal will be useless since I can't duplicate the problem.

I have a 2007 Prius with HID lights. A few months ago the drivers side headlight would randomly go out. If I turned the lights off, then immediately back on, sometimes I could get the light to turn back on. Recently the passenger light started doing this as well. I'm wondering if the bulbs are going bad, or is the ballast going bad? Is there an easy way to check?

View 10 RepliesWhile driving at night time the headlights will go out at random. The marker lights will stay on and the lights will still not turn on if I switch the light switch from "automatic" to "on". When the lights are out I can use the high beams while in "automatic" or "on".
View 4 RepliesI am very happy with my 2010 corolla, except for the annoying beeping. I live in a very quiet townhouse row and the cars are parked right in front of the houses. So, when I get up in the morning to get in the car, it beeps when I unlock it and on good weather days when the windows are open, there are at least 20 units that can hear it. It is very embarrassing. What is worse, randomly in the middle of the night, at 230 or 3am, it will beep five times quickly. My neighbors want to kill me! The engine light has been on for a few weeks because I am due for an oil change. Could it be related to that? And how do I turn this thing off?
View 4 RepliesMy '98 Cabrio recently had the headlights both go out while driving at night on a curvy state highway. I pulled onto a side street and tried to figure out a way to be able to continue my drive home safely with lights. I found that by turning the ignition key to the right and jiggling the key I could get it to temporarily stay in a position to allow my lights to remain on.
In time, that solution was no longer an option and I discovered that by pulling the brights lever (it should be noted that it usually clicks into place) and holding it towards me, the lights would work, albeit on bright mode which tends to irritate fellow motorists. Strangely, the heater fan and wipers would only work while in this new found method of illuminated driving by releasing the brights switch and pulling it a second time towards me (remember, it doesn't lock into place as it should). How to repair this problem? It defies all logic as to why things on this car work or don't work.
Having some trouble turning on fog lights with main head lights at the same time. Is this possible and how do I do this.
View 4 Replies2009 Camry LE: my rear brake light doesn't work when braking (fully lit), but it works okay for night-time mode (dimly lit).
This problem is affecting just the right side. The left side is okay for both braking (fully lit) and night-time mode (dimly lit).
Troubleshooting: my deduction led me to believe that my bulb is not burnt out and the wiring harness and fuse are okay because the bulb can be lit during night-time mode, just not when braking. I also think that my brake pedal switch is okay because my left-side brake light is fully lit when braking. I can only speculate it's a circuitry/logic board problem of some sort; I'm just not sure where I can locate the problem.
Having problems with the auto-up feature on your windows? Mine seems to randomly stop working from time to time. Only the drivers side has the problem. When the truck was new the dealer re-programmed the computer and put a new window switch in. That worked for a while but the problem keeps coming back. I can easily do the re-programming sequence however the problem always comes back. I have a 2012 Lariat SCREW.

1. Is there a way to make the car automatically lock when I get out of it without having to dig my key out of my purse and hit the lock button or run my finger over the door sensor? It seems to me that once you get out of key range, it should have an option to auto lock - or maybe after a certain amount of time autolock.
2. On a Prius II (no auto setting on headlights) - is there any problem at all with just leaving the headlights in the on position all the time? They turn off automatically 30 seconds after I leave the car, so is there a downside to doing this?
The headlight beam height can be adjusted from inside the car. But even when not fiddling with the dial, I hear an electric motor sounding noise from them time to time, just a short <1s whirring sound. I listen with the bonnet open and I'm pretty sure it's coming from the headlights. Is this normal? is there any way I can stop it?
View 3 RepliesI'm having an issue with my Nav system. I'm not sure if its going out or if it's due to the cold weather but it doesn't immediately come on when I start the car. At some point while I'm driving I'll notice that it's on and working but it seems to also be intermittently switching between the day and night time screen mode. How to check to determine if it needs to be replaced or if there is a fix?
