Prius (Gen 2) :: Engine Looks Wet - Oil Appearing Beneath The Car
Aug 13, 2013
I'm just wondering if two recent events are related ..
On my 2006 Prius (w/ 198,000 miles), the oil cap worked its way off on a recent road trip. It probably ran like that for 30 minutes or so before I smelt the oil and pulled over.
When I checked it, the oil cap was on top of the engine and the engine and inside of the engine compartment was covered in oil spray.
I replaced the oil cap and wiped down the threading on the engine and snuggled it down. The engine itself was about 1/2 quart low (this engine has a preexisting problem where it consumes 1 quart every 800 miles or so I had just added 2 quarts that day for whatever reason).
I'm now seeing spotting on the floor of the garage. The engine itself looks "wet". I'd wiped it down as best I could, but am concerned for oil now appearing beneath the car.

My 1997 Camry with 2.2 L motor is leaking oil profusely beneath the passenger side of the engine. Over time it looses oil slowly however when the engine runs it really leaks. I've isolated about where it is coming from beneath the timing belt area as shown in picture : [URL] .....

Just this week the red warning triangle is appearing intermittently. I live over 200 miles from a dealer or Toyota certified shop- Light seems to come on only when I push the brakes moderately hard and is on for just a second then disappears- beeps when it comes on, too. I called the Toyota dealer and their answer is to "just bring it in"-- not able to "just bring it in" as it's again, 200+ miles away. One of the service reps said it might be low brake fluid- but the actual service tech said it was a failing ECU most probably - seems to be driving fine- should I be panicking about now?

I used an ELM327 to read codes with my BMW so when the check engine light came on my 2009 Prius I wanted to see what may be going on. It came back as a P0441. Going back to my BMW, it had a similar issue and changing the gas cap removed the code. So now I have a new cap on but the code remains.
I have a PCV on hand and plan on replacing that in the coming week.
I do not see where the PCV valve or spark plugs for that matter have been changed up to this point.
What I should be looking at with the P0441 code?

I have a 2002 primus and got the p3006 code.
Engine would Rev and got all the lights. I figured it was the battery and decided to get a Dorman replacement. I replaced the battery but turning it on I would get the p3006 code after a few seconds. No lights at that point. I would drive about 10 miles and would get all the lights and a second p3006 code. I would clear the code and it would get rid of lights and car would operate normally.
Sometimes the lights would come on and the brake light would also come on and the engine would rev. sometimes when that happened I would get code p3012.
could the battery be OK and it be some other problem? I thought p3006 was the bad battery code.

I have a 2003 with ~230,000 miles on it. We are the 4th owners, and have owned it for 7 years / 120,000 miles.
7 months ago, in December, I experienced my first red triangle of death. It happened on a warm start, but drove fine. Took it to O'Riley, they used an Innova 3120 to check the codes, and these are the 3 that came back (P1455, P0420, P3191). After starting the car the 4th time, the warnings went away, and all seemed well. It happened again about 3 months ago while on the highway, and again went away after 4 starts. At the time I was not too terribly worried about emissions codes, we live in an area that doesn't require testing, but the 3191 was the more ominous one.
The red triangle came on again two days ago, about 5 minutes after a cold start, and again today, about 5 minutes after a warm start. I do not know what the current codes are, but I will be taking it to a store tomorrow to get them checked. I had an oil change 4 days ago. I checked the intake manifold for any sign of liquid (I saw several posts in RE to the 3191 of that being a possibility), and it is as clean as our '05s. I checked my service history, and didn't have anything done the first two times this happened.
If the same codes persist, I'm assuming the problems could be cheap to almost what the car is worth (~$2,500).

Until about a week ago, when I turned my headlights on, the icon (light bulb) appeared on the dash. Out of the blue, it doesn't. Any clue why? (High beam icon still appears).

Back in July of last year, I installed the OEM foglight kit and replaced the lightbulbs with a pair of yellow Luminics JDM 55w H11 bulbs.
A few months later when it would rain or snow, condensation began appearing on the inside of the foglight lens on both sides. It would burn off when I left the foglights on for a while, but would reappear shortly thereafter. The driver's side would generally stay clear most of the time but the passenger side would always have moisture on the inside.
Then, a few months ago, the driver's side bulb seemed to burn out. Today, when I took them apart to reinstall the clear lightbulbs, it turns out that fluid (it actually looked like windshield washer fluid) had gotten inside the connector and shorted it out, actually melting some of the plastic to the contact. It took a while, but I was able to scrape off enough of the plastic from the contact to get it to work with the JDM bulb again.

Where the heck am I supposed to get a Saturn part as none of the dealerships exist! It's a maybe 8-inch small hose that goes from the top of my engine to some kinda shaft; the shaft goes to my air-filter. That's all I need is this skinny hose as smoke is coming up from beneath the hood! Is there a name for this particular hose? Embarrassing as heck but I don't think (am I right?) that this will cause any major harm. (I've already begun cleaning beneath the hood.)

My '95 Saturn has a little bit of smoke coming out the sides of its hood. I've never cleaned the engine and was wondering if there were any good engine cleaners on the market? (I'm assuming it should clean hoses and whatever else - belts, I guess I'll leave them alone for now as I don't hear any noise indicating slippage.) The car is driveable but with summer coming up I don't want to be stranded with an engine on fire.

I have a 2000 CRV with 95,000 miles. In a heavy rain I get water leakage on my driver's side floor. Have had a new windshield installed but it still leaks. Plan to keep vehicle for 2-3 years more.

I've noticed water accumulated beneath the clear lens covering my headlamp assembly in my 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid headlamp. The dealer says the entire lamp assembly needs to be replaced. It seems this should be a simple gasket issue with the clear lens cover.

I have a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid with about 90,000 miles on it. It still runs very well and I like the vehicle a lot, but I am about to junk it because the rear wheel well on the passenger side has completely rusted away beneath the fender. The shock absorber is hanging loose because there is not metal left to bolt it to. I looked on the Internet and I saw that several other owners have had the same problem. I took it to the body shop at the dealer where I bought the vehicle and the manager said he had never seen anything like it. The vehicle is long out of warranty and the web information seems to indicate that Ford won't do anything about it, even though they're aware of the problem.

This is right beneath the drivers side exhaust manifold. Not sure what it is but it appears to be leaking oil. Tried to tighten it and it seems snug. Can it be the gasket has gone bad for whatever it is?
Truck is 02 SD, 7.3, 4x4, with 512k miles.
Not really leaking bad but if easy enough to fix why not. It also appears to be leaking on the same side cylinder bank back near the rear of the valve cover. Need to see if I can snug that up as well.
It's right in the center of the pic. It's a bolt going into some sort of fitting housing that ties into the back portion of the block. Ignore the coolant streaks on the coolant hose. This is the oil leak in the darker center of the pic.

Over past several weeks I got CEL appearing and disappearing. The first couple of times it appeared after a fill up. Both times I removed and put back the cap and the light was off when I started the car next time (in a day or two). Last few times it popped up (and disappeared) without me doing anything. The only thing that I noticed is that vibration level increased a little when standing at the light. I have APR Stage I (FSI) and about 22K.

Lately I've been getting the Stop! Car too low! message when I start the car if it has been sitting more than 6 hours or so. the front appears to be too low. After 20-30 seconds, the front end raises up high enough and the message goes away. It didn't do this when I first got the car. I'm going in for my 80,000 mile service soon.

ESC Off & Brake Light keep appearing intermittently. When I turn the car off and then back on, they go off. This has happened about 5 or 6 times in the last week.
I want to take it to the dealer but I just know I'll get a, "cannot duplicate problem" from them because it doesn't happen all the time. I'm going on a trip in two weeks and I don't want to run into problems on the road.

I've had my 03 Corolla for some time now. I haven't had any major problems with it... She's been great, but last week I noticed her clock has been appearing and disappearing... Is a repair like that I can do myself? Or if I take it to a mechanic would a repair like that be expensive? Could it possibly lead to any electrical issues in the future?

I have a 2013 Corolla. I have what looks like a rust stain appearing on the headliner starting over the drivers side sun shade and ends by the rearview mirror this seemed to have just started and I checked for water leaks and there appears to be none as far as I can tell and the liner doesn't get wet.

It is a fairly new vehicle, Touareg SN 42xxx. It has two problems, which might be inter-related, both of which have defied all the repair attempts of a very competent and concerned dealership.
First problem: The warning message "Headlight Range Control" keeps on appearing. Much work has been done to try and fix this: Alignment of lights checked, suspension level sensors checked, vehicle inspected for damaged wires, etc. Later on in the process, both headlight assemblies and the instrument cluster were replaced. The message still appears.
Second problem: This is really minor, I only mention it because it might be related to the first problem. The instrument cluster trip computer (MFA) will not store accumulated mileage over a series of trips. In other words, if the car is stopped and started a few times, the trip computer will zero out.
