My driver side headlight is out in my '08 touring (HID) I bought replacement bulbs on Priuschat recommendation. Swapped that one out, no change. Is the ballast next on the list?
Also, this may be a coincidence. But that headlight assembly seems to be a bit leaky. After a rain a fair amount of condensation gets in there.
My Driver's side headlight recently started 'switching itself off' - which I understand is a pretty common problem. I'd already had the Passenger side replace a couple of years ago - by the dealership. But this time I figured I'd do it myself.
View 2 RepliesLast night I noticed when I got out of the car my drivers side headlight was off while my passenger side light stayed on for about 20 more seconds.
At first I thought I just needed a new bulb, but tonight I saw both headlights are working when the car is on or when I turn the headlights on manually, but when I shut the car off the drivers side goes off immediately and the passenger side turns off in about 20 seconds.
I really like my auto-off after a little bit instead of it turning off immediately.
I haven't changed anything recently. Other than that I can't see any other problems. I swapped out my 08 headlights for 2014 headlights about a year ago and haven't had any problems.
I recently bought a 06 F150 Lariat scab 4x2 with a 5.4L. I am having a problem with the driver side head light. It comes on but not all the way on (shines but VERY dim). The low beam works correctly sporadically. I haven't done any trouble shooting yet because I haven't had a day off. I did replace the bulbs today thinking I had a loose filament maybe. Don't usually do shotgun maintenance but wanted to put xenon's in anyway.
View 2 RepliesMy 2006 Prius (Model NHW20) has a strange headlight problem. On the passenger side, the high beam light is out but the regular headlight works.
On the driver side, the high beam is working but the regular headlight is out.
I don't think it's the fuses but I'm not sure. No amount of interchanging the following fuses changes anything about the issue:
1. 10A H-LP HI RH
2. 10A H-LP HI LH
3. 15A H-LP LO RH
4. 15A H-LP LO LH
I'm a rideshare driver who drives about 1000 miles/week. I currently have a Gen 2 which I love, but I'm looking to upgrade to a Gen 4 pretty soon.
-Does the Gen 4 have the same kind of under-trunk storage area in the hatch/cargo area? This is important for me on the Gen 2 because it allows me to carry equipment while having an empty hatch space for passengers luggage. Does it depend on if you have a spare tire or not?
-Real-world MPG in extended city driving with A/C on?
-Where are the 12v outlets? And extend one into the hatch area?
-Is there a notable difference in comfort for touring vs non touring models?
-Does the driver's seat with lumbar support make a significant difference in comfort?
As I stated in my other (and only) post... I just bought a used 2008 Prius. Tonight I noticed the driver's side headlight is out. I went to Autozone and they told me I needed a $10.99 replacement bulb...
I bought it... took a quick look and couldn't see how to get to it - so I put it away for the night...Now I see on here there is some sort of "bulb issue" with Toyota?
My 2005 has an intermittent headlight problem. The drivers side headlight goes out intermittently when it rains.. That is, it does not blink on and off just that sometimes it goes off and sometimes it doesn't. As I live in Phoenix Arizona this does not happen often but it has been happening for a year or so. I go looking at all the connections, where ever they are.

View 13 RepliesI just purchased a 2008 Prius C Touring edition from CarMax. I have an appointment to bring it back but this may be a user error issue. My issue is that when I first hit the Power button the indicator light on the button goes green. When I hit it a 2nd time the light goes orange but stays on. When I shift to R or D it will shift to N but no further. I do have my foot on the break but the only way I can shift into R or D is to hit the power button twice more, to turn it off and back on. When it turns on the 2nd time, the indicator light on the Power button goes off. Am I doing something wrong?
View 6 RepliesI am having the headlight problem on my 2006 prius (and have seen thousands of posts about it). The drivers side goes in and out and has done so for 6 months. But now the passenger side is doing the same and the 12 volt outlet fuse has blown. There are 133000 miles on it (nothing done to the vehicle except oil changes and new tires) Replacement bulbs from eBay are on the way. I have replaced the fuse and its ok now. I don't know if they are unrelated or if this a battery issue.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 Touring. The air has always been ice cold, even yesterday. On my commute this morning I noticed that the air was not cold at all for the first time ever. The outside temp said it was 77. I changed the temp, turned it off, etc but nothing changed. I just had it at the Toyota dealer 2 days getting the oil changed.
View 2 RepliesMy '08 Prius Touring is in the shop today because the 'check engine' light came on at 68,500 miles. I just got word from them that the catalytic converter is bad and needs replacement. Good thing I bought the extended warranty! Well, I searched the forum for similar problems and it seems like this is somewhat common, albeit on cars with a bit more mileage and maybe a year or more older. I don't abuse my car at all, though I often roll into full-throttle while merging.
Is this a symptom of a poor part design or of a system that fouls the cat over a certain amount of time? I'm not looking forward to replacing it again at 130K after my extended warranty expires.
I changed the oil on my 2008 Prius Touring in the weekend. I consulted the manual after the oil was changed. One mistake I made was to use 10W-30 instead 5W-30 recommended. The manual mentioned that it affects MPG with 10W-30. For the 270 miles trip I took right after, my average MPG dropped from ~46 to 45 highway. My short commute driving dropped from ~37 to 34. Comparison are made on the same roads with similar temperature and driving speed. Is that normal? Will it go back up after a while?
View 12 RepliesI just replaced (or almost replaced) the bulb on the passenger side of my 2008 prius. It is a HID bulb. I got the old one out, the new one in and connected and verified it is working. Now trying to get the cover back on that provides the weather proofing and unless im wrong... the braided wire that connects to the back of the bulb is in the way. It looks like it has to go thru the opening that the cover is supposed to seal... Imagine a rope hanging over the edge of a bucket you are trying to put a cover on... Am i wrong here? did I miss something?

View 6 RepliesI dropped off my 2012 Passat to the dealer this morning because the driver's DRL was out and the passenger headlight was out. Normally I'd change bulbs myself and be on my way but since this is new and under warranty, I let them do the work.
Anyway, fixed the DRL (bad bulb). But the passenger headlight assembly needs replacing. Seems I have fallen victim to a melted housing causing a failure. I've read about the situation somewhere here on the forums and suspected it might be the case. So VW is 2-3 days out on getting a new part and I'm in a loaner for the time being.
I'm guessing this happens a lot with this part. I wonder if VW will issue a recall in the future.
I have two questions on changing the driver's side headlight on my 2008 Toyota Prius.
1. Do I have to turn off/disconnect the battery before doing this? Or as long as I have smart key off, lights off, car not on is that enough? If I do need to disconnect the battery/etc., how do I do that?
2. I have seen some tutorials on how to do this, but after I take off the circular black weather-protector cap it is hard to get it far enough out so I can work around in there. There are a couple cables/cords/bands (or something like that) right next to it. Is it risky to try and push it out more or is all that stuff pretty durable so I can pull it out more without worrying about disconnecting stuff?
I have a 2008 Prius, but my wife drives it. I think this problem has been going on a long time, but because my wife drives the car, I never noticed it. When I raise switch to raise the window on the driver side there is a little click after which the windows should roll up to the top and stop with out holding the window switch.
Mine does this, however it gets to the top and then drops back a little. This does not happen if you don't engage the automatic roll up feature.
I found a couple of threads that talked about window calibration, but I cannot find anything more than that.

Yesterday my drivers side headlight was real dim and it was like a purple hue, today it is completely out and I got the light warning on the dash. My R has 23K on the odometer.
