Prius (Gen 2) :: Audio System Malfunctions When Car Is Left In Sun
Mar 2, 2013
I have a 2007 Prius with about 80K miles. In the past year or so, I have noticed that the audio system temporarily malfunctions particularly when the car is left outside in the sun for some time. For example, I just returned from an out-of-town business trip where the car was left in an airport parking lot for 5 days. After starting the car and beginning my drive home, I noticed that the radio worked fine but I could not engaged the CD/Aux function.
Similarly, the power button did not function properly; I could not turn the radio off without turning off the ignition. This has happened several times before when the car was left all day in a parking lot out in the sun. After the car is driven for a while, the audio function returns to normal.

I Learned on a Toyota Avalon web page that you can force your audio system to reboot itself by pressing the power button for three seconds. On the Avalon, it only works on the "Limited" levels. I tried it tonight on my Prius Four and it worked. Great to use when your audio gets "confused" and you just want to clear it and start over.

I've been using MP3 CDs in autos for some years. Now I have a 2014 Prius 4 with whatever audio system is standard in that model. Generally all is good. But there is one odd thing: Whenever I stop the car, or it seems even pause the playback, it seems to restart so as to replay a few minutes I listened to on the last session.

Is it normal for a clicking and ticking noise to constantly originate from the JBL audio navigation system? I've noticed this noise while the vehicle is in electric mode at a full stop. The noise is also present while driving.
I checked the 4 disc cd changer and they are empty. I usually use the blue tooth system to play the music.

I use my iphone via bluetooth to play my music and podcasts. If it's wireless I have no control over the folders through the audio controls. I have to manually go through the folders on my phone to cue up what I want to play. Which seems counter productive. I can skip forward to the next song and pause/play but that's it. If I have it plugged into the USB I can control the folders when I am in ipod mode. But it wont let me play it. I then have to switch to BTA to play it. Then back to ipod if I want a different folder or playlist.

After replacing at a Toyota dealer in my country the JBL 6CD audio system under warranty (was not responding on the commands from front panel, the unit was faulty), I've found some error codes left in System Check Mode and I don't know what is their meaning. What those codes show, especially 380H error code? Here is how to look ...

I just got the vehicle on the July 17th, and have some questions about the audio system. When it's sunny outside, there's so much glare on LCD of the nav system that it makes it almost impossible to use it because it washes out the colors so much.
It says it in the user guide that you get 6 presets per source (usb/aux excluded). However, it only allows six global presets. I know that because whenever I change the source the presets from the previous source stay on the screen. And no, the visors do not fix the glare problem.

2007 Prius and I would like to enter a specific location such as the name of a restaurant vs HWY 90 South. Is this possible?
Some times I mark a location and it does state the name of the place but usually it's a generic state highway that is mixed up with a lot of other like I-40 E etc.

We bought a new 2010 Prius III last August. We've been quite happy with it. One morning a few weeks ago we unlocked the door to go for a ride and noticed the screen on the Nav system was cracked.
I placed my hand on the screen and it felt completely smooth! I was the last one to drive her and it was fine when I parked in our driveway. There weren't any signs of vandalism and nothing hit the screen.
A friend thinks there was possible a small crack behind the molding and perhaps a change in temperature or going over a bump could have set it off.

I just purchased a 2011 Prius III with the built in navigation system. I also have a BMW 335i and am able to type in a destination in the nav system while driving. I noticed I can't do that with the Prius nav system and can only do it while parked. Is there anyway to bypass this.

I can't figure out how to mute the navigation system. I found the volume control, but it doesn't have a silent option. How to do this?

Navigation system fails to read DVD when it heats up on my Prius IV. Works fine when cold at start up or when air conditioner is running in warm weather. Now that it is cold outside and a heater is necessary, it will intermittently fail to read the DVD. This is an updated DVD. The old DVD had no problems but I have since dumped it. Do I need to replace the new DVD?

My V5 is approaching 3 months old..and I love it. But, today, I was surprised to find all of my stored favorites in the nav system gone! Even "Home"..was wiped out! I have the standard nav system (no ATP). No buttons were pushed to clear the system but, the car did sit unused for 6 days, though that shouldn't wipe out the memory, I don't think. It's difficult to have to reload everything I had stored, especially if this becomes a regular occurrence.

I bought a fully loaded 2004 Prius last summer with Navigation and bells and whistles. (I love it - even with 110,000 miles!) At the time I had a 3G Iphone (AT&T) and the bluetooth worked for phoning and the cord that came out of the compartment under the stereo worked for me to plug in my phone and play music. Of course there was no music display and I had to get the music going first and I couldn't view it at all while it was plugged in. (Meaning if I wanted to see the song or change to a new playlist I had to unplug it.) But nonetheless I was STOKED to have my iphone music playing. It also charged my phone.
A few months I upgraded to an Iphone 4S, and now when I plug my phone in I can't play ANY music!! (Bluetooth for phone works fine.)
Questions:
1. So I always assumed the cord came with the Prius although I guess the first owner could have put it in? Do that model came with one?
2. Most importantly: How can I play music from my 4S phone the simplest easiest way.....

Is there a way to use the navigation system when you are driving instead of having to stop to key in information?

I'm having troubling pairing a phone to the Bluetooth system. I worked fine with my plain-jane Sprint cell phone as well as my kid's iPod. However, when I pair my wife's phone the car's phone system does not see the device after a few seconds.

After a long trip this past weekend, I'm curious how the navigation system gets its traffic info. I received several traffic alerts (that were all cleared by the time I got to them).

I have a 2013 plug-in Prius with 14k miles. I am experiencing intermittent issues with NAV/Bluetooth system rebooting. I even took a video to show the Toyota service rep. I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.2 and I am jailbroken. I'll be driving along, maybe on the phone, maybe not. Intermittently and with no warning--poof--Bluetooth disconnects and the nav system reboots.
