I have a Gen II problem with my air conditioning. The air conditioning works; however, the air is stuck blowing in the defrost setting. I think there is some problem with the Air Mix Servo. In my non Prius cars they called the part a blend door actuator. Long story short, the air will not move to the front vents or anywhere else. That said, I can't hear the servo moving at all.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 240000 miles on the clock. Words cannot describe how impressed I am by this car. However, yesterday I noticed that the selector switch where one chooses to direct the air output has failed me. It seems to be stuck in the windshield defrost setting, unable to redirect the airflow to anywhere else. I am however still able to control the temperature as well as A/C settings. The switch felt strangely 'limp' almost as though it is no longer connected to whatever engineering or witchcraft it is attached to behind the control panel. What are your thoughts on this? Could it be as simple as some mechanical linkage that has snapped off? Just to recap: blower motor, heat and A/C are not affected by this.
View 2 RepliesI thought I wouldn't have need of the defrost for several months yet, but today we had unusually cold rain and my windows soon fogged up. The fan (not a/c) was already running at a very low setting (one or two clicks only) when I depressed the defrost button. Roughly 15 seconds later, it was like a hurricane in the cabin! The fan moved to the highest setting all by itself. This did clear the windshield in seconds, but it was a bit disconcerting. This phenomenon repeated itself all three times that I engaged the defrost button. Is the defrost supposed to do that? I swear, the sudden change startled me so much, I hit my head on the ceiling of the cabin...
View 3 RepliesI just bought my car probably a month ago. I have a 2006. We checked the air before we bought it, but it was cold outside, so it could have just been blowing out cooler air. Now that it's almost 90 degrees outside, it's blowing out very warm air.

View 2 RepliesI have noticed if I turn on the AC and set it to any front defrost setting (either full front defrost or mix front defrost and lower vents) and turn up the heat that when I turn it on the next day there is a horrible smell. If I run the AC and turn the temperature up there is no smell so long as I don't use any setting using the front defrost. The smell is bad enough that I have to open the windows to air out the car. After a few minutes the smell goes away.
The car is an '06 XL. I noticed it intermittently when I first got it two years ago, but this winter the smell happens every time I use the AC on any front defrost mode. My guess is the heating element under the front windshield. If I turn on the heat without the AC on any front defrost setting I do not have the problem.
1994 f150. When i use the max a/c setting, sometimes after a few minutes I hear a little thud and then all the air starts coming out of the defrost vents. This doesn't happen when using the regular a/c setting.
View 2 RepliesMy wife's '02 Explorer has developed an issue with the heat/AC. As far as I can tell, the heat is hot when it's supposed to be hot, and the AC is cold when it's supposed to be cold. But, the problem is that everything only blows out through the defrost vents, no matter what setting it is on.
I know there are other threads on this type of subject, and I have read a lot of them. I thought I had identified that actuator gizmo as the culprit, but the more I read, it didn't seem like the symptoms for that issue are exactly like mine. I want to try and fix it myself, and I'd love to take the time to read everything on the subject, but warmer weather is here and my wife wants it fixed yesterday!
This problem reminds me of the time the vacuum pump went out on my F-350 and the defrost vents were all that would work. I wish this problem would be as easy to fix as that was.
Running the A/C for 20-30, I notice the fan not blowing at all even setting the speed to high. I hear something blocking the duct work. I stopped for lunch and when I came back I notice water still pouring out from the A/C

In my 2002 Highlander, the top cluster of my center console controls (clock, hazard lights, passenger seatbelt warning, cycle air button, A/C button, rear defrost) have not been working for about two and a half weeks. It's been on my radar, but I hadn't had time to take it in yet. Drove fine, A/C worked, all of that – mostly just the clock was an inconvenience.
Two weekends ago, my battery died. Took it in, Advance checked it out and topped off the fluids, cleaned corrosion and sent me on my way – said the corrosion might just be shorting it out (it was bad), but that while the battery was old (4.5yrs) it might still be fine, so to try that and come back in 100 miles or so before buying a new battery.
Worked fine that week, died this past Saturday. Went in to get a replacement battery, had it put in, all good. Chugged a little on the first start after the battery was installed, had them check the starter/alternator, they were fine. Started normal after the first time.
Went to leave, and noticed my air conditioning was now coming out of the defrost, instead of the forward setting I left it on. Long story short, now that dial doesn't work, and I can't change the airflow direction. (Something with the battery resetting the switch to the default).
The temperature control still seems to work – it doesn't get quite as cold as it did (not sure if that's a new issue as well, or just how the defrost portion works). I can also still change the strength of the air blowing out – basically, the other two A/C controls work, I just can't change WHERE it's blowing out.
My guess was that it would be fuse-related, but I checked all the fuses that I could tell from the manual might have something to do with the A/C (or the center console controls I mentioned), and none looked blown/broken. What I could look for?
my AC is only blowing through the defrost and the floor - It's a cool 101 degrees here today!!
We have changed out the battery, the actuator on the passenger AND driver side, as well as pulling the HVAC fuse from the fuse box under the rear seat - none of this has worked!
My 06 F250 crew with the 6.0 starting blowing the cold AC out the defrost vent and will not switch to the dash vents. It's goning to hit 108 today and stay around 105 for the rest of the week.
View 14 RepliesThe front a/c on my ex on the highest blower motor speed blows out the vents like its on low, but I can hear the motor blowing at full speed. It's not blowing out of defrost or floor unless I switch it. On lower settings I can barely feel any air at all. Only does this rarely. Could it be my vacuum pump?
View 4 RepliesI'm not sure if on my 2002 Excursion limited the air vents are controlled thru vacuum or electronically. Where to start. Where to even begin looking to correct this problem. I'd rather not have to pay the dealer prices unless it is something out of my league of fixing.

View 4 RepliesMy 2005 Freestar (not the Freestyle) a/c is working properly except that it is only blowing through the defrost. I've read other posts about it being a leaking vacuum system on other ford vehicles that cause this problem.
1) I'd like to confirm that this Freestar a/c works on a vacuum system to open the a/c duct doors.
2) If it is, where are the vacuum hoses located? I'd like to check them to see if they are connected or if they have a hole.
My 02 V-10 Ex seems to be blowing Air from the front vents up to the Defrost unless it go through a series of events-- Hit Auto then forward Air then the fan has to be a 4 only. It will blow forward vents then go back and forth from theirr to the defrost. Also the Temp seems to be much hotter then it should.
Took a interstate trip this weekend though and it seems to blow much colder and do a little bit better staying in the front vents however still goes back and forth. Im in FL and its HOT!!!! The only thing I know is that its a vacuum system.. and that again its HOT in the truck as a daily driver.
a 2001 4-dr. Saturn sedan. We had a cold rainstorm a few nights ago while I was driving my car and my windows started to fog up. I attempted to move the switch from the vents to the defroster, and the knob stopped -- and stuck -- in mid-turn. After a bit of a struggle, I was finally able to get the switch over to defrost -- but the next day, when I again needed the A/C, the switch would not turn back. I took it to a Saturn mechanic who quoted $1,000 to fix it. I took it to another mechanic who doesn't specialize and he could only quote his labor -- about $200. It is now in the floor vent/defrost position and I can live with that -- but I would like to have it fixed some day. Is this a hopeless cause since Saturns are no longer manufactured?
View 1 RepliesI know all about vacuum leaks and such causing this problem, and I tend to think that is my problem. But isn't the temp change dial also vacuum controlled (in my case of an 06 f250 6.0) by that valve near the oil fill tube on the passenger side? I ask because, while I am stuck on defrost i can change the temp of the air that comes out still, telling me there is enough vacuum in the system to at least control that.
I also know everyone talks about checking the ESOF system for cracked lines/leaks, but this shouldn't come in to play unless I have 4WD selected or if the EFOF solenoid is bad, right? I just got done tearing the top end of this engine apart, twice, for oil temp problems and am about done working on this POS!!!

View 1 RepliesI have a '90 F150 without A/C. For some reason the healing system is stuck on defrost. No matter where I turn the selector switch ( floor, vent, etc) air only comes out the defrost. If I turn it to "off" it will turn off. What is wrong?
