Prius (Gen 2) :: ABS And Brake Lights Come Only When Using The Bluetooth
Mar 24, 2012
As I am driving, occasionally, the abs and brake lights come on but only when I am using the bluetooth OBD2 connector with Torque running. Its happened 3 times in the past week. Almost everytime I use the app.
When they first came on I let the app do a trouble code scan and it said nothing was saved in the cpu. When I started the car the lights were off.

i have the brake (!) the ABS and the VSC lit up after i got new bearings and new brake pads and rotors, the car was also stalling before the mechanic removed these bearing "dust cover" circles that must have been causing speed sensor interfernce bc the spedometer was stuck on 0....so the car seems to be done stalling after those were removed and all the big lights went off then i hit the brakes a few miles later and those three lights came on...

I have a really long downhill at the end of my commute. If I am putting on slight brake pressure to regen, are my brake lights on? Or do they only come on when you put enough pressure on the pedal to start slowing the car?

No reason, just came on this morning on the way to work. Driving at my lunch brake it 'fees' like the ABS and traction control isn't working...
I had a wheel sensor replaced 6 months ago when all the dashboard lights came on during a rainstorm.
Could this be another sensor...or maybe one that needs cleaning, going bad, etc.
I'm fairly handy with a wrench, but where to start?

No brake lights or dash lights radio, headlights etc. Nothing.. Horn works and the emergency lights. A little red one at the start button is on sometimes. Tried jumping under the hood [+ tab} and checked the 12v battery and it checks good.

Did a front brake job on my prius today. I replaced the pads and the rotors. I just turned the car on and I have 4 lights on : emergency brake, VSC, ABS and the yellow (!) warning sign. There is also a check engine, but it was there before (something related to my throttle pedal). I have a ODB2 device.
The only "special" things that I can think about is that we absent-mindedly pushed on the brake pedal while the caliper was off the rotor, so the piston was fully extended. Also, the lights were on for a while, so the 12V battery might be low.
We are currently charging the 12V battery.

Recently while pulling into the gas station the brake, Triangle !, ABS and VSC lights came on. The dealer reset the error and said my ECU needs replacement at a cost of $1843. The Prius is a 2005 with 147000 miles. No problems since the reset so I am hopefull. I don't recall reading about a lot of others having to have expensive ECU replacements so I wonder how many have had similar problems and replaced their ECU.

Just replaced 12 volt battery from a dealer nearby. Got it in OK, but my "!", ABS, and VSC and Brake lights are still on. Pads and shoes look fine. Is there a reset button or mode for these lights. I was under the impression that the display voltage test of 9 volts (dying battery) was causing the lights to come on. Just want to make sure there is no reset on the lights (like after an oil change) before I move on to other testing or the mechanic. The other symptom I've had along with these lights is the yellow arrows coming from the battery don't stop when I come to a stop. I have to put in neutral or park to get them to stop not matter how hard I press on the brake. This happened a couple years ago, along with the lights above, but went away. I wrote it off at the time to a bad connection somewhere.

I had the brakes on my 2004 Prius replaced. Recently the red Brake light and the orange ABS Brake lights come on some of the time - but not all of the time. I took the car in to my local repair shop. They said it would cost $300 to diagnose the problem.

Just bought 04 prius. Anyhow fast forward to yesterday and I am driving home and notice the Brake light, (!), ABS, VCS lights come on. I read a couple forums about bridging pins 4,13 to get codes and this is what I have. (!)69, 57 ABS 42, VSC 45
I tested the battery and it was 13.8 V on and around 12.3 or something off. I felt around where the inverter pump is and it feels like there something going on in the middle hose. I tried to look in the reservoir but honestly I couldn't get it pumping when I had the hood up so I couldn't confirm movement in the reservoir.
I reset the codes (stomping on brakes 8 times) and it went away until I started driving home again today and they;re back. I added a file the is the sounds I hear when pressing the brakes. Truthfully I hear this all the time when I turn off the prius. I just noticed though that when I hit the brakes I hear it now. In the sound file you hear a pause when I press and release the brake pedals and reapply.

2010 Prius 98,000 miles - No Accidents
I was driving on the freeway cruising about 65-70mph.. Not using the brake at all. All the sudden the car starts beeping loudly with the Brake light going off, traction control light going off, and the ((!)) light as well. So I wanted to pull over to the side and realized my brakes were not working . It was the same as if you're trying to brake the car when the car is turned off. I slowly pulled off the freeway. Tried to reset the ECU, battery, everything, thinking at the traction control is just going crazy.

OUr 2005 Prius has been intermittently popping on the buzzer/ ABS/ VSC and BRAKE lighte, usually when the brake pedal is touched, but sometimes without any apparent initiator. It remains on usually for 10-20 seconds, but occasionally stay on 20+ minutes. Interestingly, often, when the turn signal is activated, it immediately goes off. Dealer says there are no scanned error messages (and of course charged us to tell us that...), and to bring it in "while the lights are on." Right. It sounds like a short somewhere, but I don't know where to go from here.

What to check and do on my 07 Gen 2 Prius odo 109450 miles
My dashboard lights have the red triangle master hybrid /vsc and brake all on and I can still drive the vehicle.
I have been rechecking my repair work however after replacing the following parts
12v battery
inverter pump
coolant
traction battery
I am unsure how to troubleshoot my issue.

I have a 2004 Prius, with both the brake and reverse lights not working (right & left). Already replaced all bulbs and checked fuse...No luck.

I replaced brake pads on my 05 Prius Monday. The instructions I have say to pull 2 relays and pump and hold the brake pedal until I hear a buzz. This has worked fine the last time I did the brakes. This time I got the Brake, Parking brake,VSC and ABS lights when I powered up.
I did not open the hydraulic system, just push in the pistons. I test drove it then touched the brakes. The left front and right rear rotor/drums were hot but the others were not. Long story short, I want to reset the ABS system.

Our '09 generally gets short trips, though last weekend it had a long one. Last night it was fine my wife drove home from work, but when we tried to head out for the evening the check engine, VSC, ABS and brake lights all came on. Nothing funky on the MFD.
I ran the battery check procedure and the low value was 12.0 volts. The instructions here say it should be above 12, replace if below. Here we are on the edge?
My wife drove it to the dealer and complained that the brakes felt like they weren't working properly. Sounds like she had only hydraulic braking, no regen.

I replaced my rear brake shoes this past weekend. Immediately after I replaced them, the ABS, VSC, ((!)), and Parking Brake lights came on. I had not read that I should've disconnected the 12V battery before changing the shoes, so I wonder if that's related to the issue. I've read through as many threads here that I could dig up, but I still have questions. Here is what I know so far:
Car Info: 2004, 210k miles, Original 12V battery
Relevant Info: While replacing the shoes, one of the seals(?) (rubber part that slid over the piston(?)) slid off. I put it back on, and have checked for any fluids leaking, and have found none. I may pull the rotors off and check this again, though. There were no DTCs logged prior to the shoe replacement. Battery has shown no signs of dying, although I am going to check the voltage on it after I post this.
I tried jumping the pins, and I get the following flash codes (I tried resetting, but they came back immediately):
ABS: 4-2
VSC: 4-5
((!)): 6-5
I tried finding information on these flash codes, but have found nothing...
My CHS Tank was damaged in an accident a few years ago. I just replaced the CHS tank and the Inverter Coolant Pump within the last 12 months. It is still running when I power the car on and off as it should. I also jumped the fuse with a paperclip to double check that it runs.
My brake fluid levels are fine right now.
Possibly unrelated to the lights, but applying the parking brake is very easy. I don't think I adjusted the star adjuster enough. This is my first time messing with drum brakes, so it's possible I didn't adjust that correctly. Are these self-adjusting, or do I need to go back and adjust them by hand?

Title says it all. Occasionally when I try to start my 2007 Prius (70k miles), the master warning light along with the brake, ABS, and VSC warning lights all come on. I'll turn my car off and then turn it back on and it will start right away.
One thing that I notice is that it seems like the headlights and/or the MFD is dimmer than usual when this happens. I'll turn off the headlights, turn on the car, wait for it to start, and then turn on the headlights and everything will work correctly.

I've noticed some Prius G3 cars with burned-out LEDs. Yesterday I saw one with just one "square" of LEDs burned-out, and today I saw one with the left-most row (5 squares vertical) inactive but the other 7 still working. Do cops pull-over owners if the brake light still works, but is partially burned out?
