View 7 RepliesI've been hearing this ticking noise coming from the back of my prius when driving. i can only hear it when my windows is down and i'm passing by an object that reflects the sound so i can hear it., like if i was driving by a car, building, median with barriers etc. It sound like pop rocks candy literally but much slower.
View 7 RepliesI recently starting hearing a very audible clicking/ticking sound in the rear that happens for about a second each time the car is started. After, everything seems to be just fine, but I don't know if this is something I should be concerned about.
I recently did some suspension work and I don't know if this is somehow related or if I'm now just extra sensitive to the sounds my car makes after the work was done. Perhaps the auto parking brake disengaging?
My 2006 package 6 just developed a ticking sound. Audible at stop without the gas engine operating. All gear positions the same. Sounds almost like a slow, little plastic fan that one blade is hitting something. Sound system off, climate system off.
View 7 RepliesWhen slowing to a stop and turning to the right, there is a ticking sound (not loud) coming from the front. The ticking rate slows as the wheel slows and continues until almost stopped. Break pedal pressure does not affect the sound. The dealer tech heard the sound on a demo drive but they had no clue what it was and found nothing wrong.
The tech, sitting in the right seat thought the sound was coming from the left side. I hear it coming from the right side. Maybe that means it comes from the middle? I only hear it when coming to a stop. Maybe road noise covers it up at higher speed but I don't know.
Currently at about 38,000 miles.
On the drive home tonight, I noticed a clicking/ ticking sound coming from the car when accelerating from a complete stop. I would accelerate slowly enough to keep the vehicle in EV mode for the duration of the acceleration. Not sure if this is normal.
View 2 RepliesWhen I apply the brakes at speeds of 30 mph and under I hear a ticking noise. (The noise might still be there above 30 mph , but due to road noise I cant hear it)
I believe it is the front drivers side but after taking wheel off and taking it to the dealership. I can not find the problem. The dealership states they can't hear it while on several road test, but I have showed them the video clip and they have no idea what it is.
I just started hearing a ticking sound in my drivers side rear wheel. It sounds like a pebble in the tire at low speeds and as you get faster it makes loud road noise in the car, almost like a whoosh whoosh sound. Took it to a local auto shop and they said it was a stuck brake caliper and possible wheel bearing. After driving I felt each rotor and that one was considerable hotter then the others. Everything else about the car is fine, drives well with no vibrations and brakes well. Jacked the wheel up to see if the wheel was loose from a bad bearing, but it was not loose. The shop, however, can not locate a caliper saying it was on national backorder. Does this sound like a bad caliper and is it normally hard to find parts? I'm trying to avoid going to a dealer because of price, but that maybe may only option. The car has 90,000 miles.
View 5 RepliesI know that I've seen some threads about the battery not surviving a long period without using the car Just got back from 2 months away, and everything started up just fine
View 11 RepliesMy left backup light just went out on my '10 Prius after 4 months.
View 18 RepliesI've had my Prius since and for the past 6 months I am getting weekly low tire alerts.
How likely is it that the tires were not mounted well enough from the factory?
Had to store prius for 7 or 8 months? Does the hybrid battery need to be disconnected?
View 4 RepliesThe 2005 Prius I bought has had the AC compressor replaced 3 times in about 6 months with new toyota parts, the repair shop told the man I bought the car from not to bring it back there anymore they cant find the problem and toyota will not replace the compressor again for free...I guess 2 replacements is their limit.
The AC blows warm and Im not sure how to tell if the compressor is working or not, the inside fan works on all speeds, the fan by the radiator comes on but is VERY loud....of course I don't leave it on, only for testing to try to find the problem.
Where to look or why this car is burning up compressors.
I am not going to use my Prius for six months. What can I do to keep the starter battery alive? this battery is almost new. Also would like to hear if the long period of inaction will affect the main battery.
View 19 RepliesI heard a fan sound coming from the back seat after driving in traffic for 45 minutes. It was coming from the vent in the back seat. I didn't know that that vent had an electric fan. I assume it was the battery being cooled. I have never heard this sound before.
View 5 RepliesI'm wondering if this applies to all of you with JBL with navi system. My system's fader shows that it is set right in the middle between the front and back but it seems the front gets most of the sound and the back gets only a little until I move the cursor back a couple of notches. My parents have the same 2010 JBL with navi and theirs is the same thing. Is this normal or am I going crazy? If it is normal, why?
View 2 RepliesThe horn in my car started to sound like if it was going to catch a cold then it stopped sounding, however if I press the panic button in the keychain it does sound perfect. Where and what should I look for. Is it a relay, the spring contact on the steering wheel?
View 1 RepliesGot my Prius v 5 in June and since then, there is the most obnoxious rattle coming from the back seat (passenger side). It's intermittent, depending on who's in the car with me. When I'm alone, it happens about 80% of the time. When my kids are in the car, it depends on which one and what seat they choose.
I've taken it to Toyota twice, and they're unable to detect the problem. I'm convinced that this is because the weight distribution is difficult to replicate. It is seriously making me crazy and I'm ready to turn the car in and get another (NOT a Toyota).
I was driving the other day, and all of a sudden it started with this horrible knocking sound. I have never heard the sound before. I remember back in the day, with a 67 buick rivera, that if the oil got low, the engine would knock, and this kind of sounded the same, but more high pitched and clicky. I checked the oil first thing and there is plenty in there - in fact, I had just checked and put oil in it about two weeks before.
I have not always kept up with the oil changes, and sometimes the oil level was pretty low. My sons tell me that the sound seems to be coming from the top of the engine, and it's probably toast, a rod knock. I parked it, and figured i will get it looked at in a few months, when I'm better able to pay for diagnostics.
When I park, and let off the brake, the car will gently rock back and forth, emitting a squeaking sound as it does so from the front suspension area. I am replacing front and rear struts (195K miles on my Prius). What the squeaking could be?
View 3 RepliesYeah so on the way to the UCLA game last night, after the car warmed up, I started hearing a whoop sound coming from the back I thing. This is the second time I heard it doing this in the month I've owned it. It happened under some acceleration and sounded a bit like the beginning of a police siren. Not every time though.
