What is the right mileage to do transmission fluid change on my 2009 prius? Toyota said I don't supposed to do it on that car, never, but i think that's not right. I do lifetime warranty on transmission but still would like to put fresh fluid on transmission. Its about 190dlls at dealer. I currently have 44k miles on it and I am not sure to do it or not..
View 9 Replies2009 Ford Explorer - 6cyl - 4L - auto trans - 35K miles. I'd like to change the automatic transmission fluid, but as some may already know, there is no dipstick on these vehicles. I have one of those hand pumps which will fit on the quart bottles and I'd be able to pump new fluid in (through where the drain torx bolt is). My question is: How do you know when the fluid level is correct when re-filling and then checking ? Also, I'm assuming that this has to be checked while the vehicle is running and in park ?

View 14 RepliesI'm trying to change my trans fluid on my 2010 Toyota Prius I, but I go under there and look, and there's NO drain plug and NO filler plug! It's just completely solid, with a black electrical thing on the front (looks like an electric pump or sensor of some kind). I've watched videos, read articles, read manuals! I would just hate to have to take it in to the same dealer who's telling me "it's good way past 100k miles..." .

View 5 RepliesMy wife has a 2007 Toyota Sequoia with only 17,000 miles on it (as of Mar 2013). It has had regular scheduled maintenance - engine oil changes, etc. However, due to low mileage, it has never had Transmission or Radiator fluid changed. All miles have been in town, short trips. Is there a need to have these fluids changed just due to the age of the Sequoia and type of miles driven. It is an expense I would rather not do unless necessary. We do plan on keeping it to well past 100,000 miles. Considering the age and miles, is there anything else that I should be watchful for or take action on?
View 13 RepliesI have been changing the transmission fluid. It seems the consensus is that unless you are driving under extreme conditions (other than "normal"), it may be advised. I am probably driving my 2006 V8 Phaeton "normally" but I am not sure of its previous life. For example, it lived in hot and humid South Carolina and may have done a lot of highway miles. So I am thinking about changing that fluid for safe measure.

I've read it is best to change fluid between 60,000 and 100,000 miles and to change this every 30,000 miles. I've also heard that if I have not had this changed prior to 60,000 miles that it is too late to change this now. Is this correct? Recently, I've noticed the transmission slips when shifting geers(this is automatic transmission). What do you recommend.

View 4 RepliesA gather that the recommended interval for a transmission fluid change is 3 years or 30k miles? And that is drain, change the filter if any, and refill, not ask because the users manual says nothing. Does this apply to a CVT transmission? What about differentials?

Well I figured out a way to do fluid change without taking down the pan... just use a pump and suction out and then refill with pumper...

View 3 RepliesI have an 05 Prius that I bought used. It has 59K miles on it. Recently I took it to the dealer for an oil change. They told me it didn't need an oil change, but did need an air filter. Afterwards, the mileage dropped from about 47 around town to about 42. Had the oil changed a week later, and the mileage is now about 40 around town. The dipstick when cold shows a little above the full mark.
View 15 RepliesI went to the local dealer at about 6K miles to get the free 5K service. The invoice said synthetic service, so it should be the 0W-20. Now the average mileage since the last fill-up is lower by at least 3-4 MPG. My driving habits haven't changed. I inflated the tires to above 40 PSI. I looked at the oil. It is medium amber colored. (I forgot to look at it before the oil change. )

View 1 RepliesI bought a 2002 camry last month. It has 180k on it, and the previous owner says he never had the trans fluid changed.
It started to slip, so I parked it and I had it towed to a trans shop. Of course, they immediately say I need a trans rebuild.
My house was close, so I drove it home without any issues.
What are the chances that a fluid change will correct this for a little while atleast?
This is my first Lexus and first new car in a long time. I have a 2015 3IS RWD and looking through the Services Guide I don't see any service interval for replacing the rear diff fluid or the trans fluid. All the manual says is under "inspect the following" check diff fluid level and check trans for leaks--and that the trans is a closed unit with no dip stick.
As far as my automotive knowledge goes, all transmissions are closed and yet many in the past have had dip sticks. Also, I've never heard of just topping off diff fluid if you're low. And both definitely have had service intervals! I change the diff fluid in my S2000 every 15K miles.
I find it hard to believe that the Diff and Trans fluid doesn't EVER need to be replaced.What are the service intervals for these two and the fluid weights?
So I recently bought my 03 VW Golf TDI, and have it in the shop this morning to get the wheel alignment done, balance my winters, fuel/cabin filter changed, as well as an oil change. I am now wondering whether or not to give them a call to change the transmission oil as well...
But.. the vehicle has alot of km's on it (358K) and I keep reading that it would do more harm then good? Is this true? Doesn't make any sense to me, but the car could shift more smoothly I think if I do it, and I have yet to see any tran fluid change in the previous owners records in quite some time..
