Prius (Gen 2) :: 2008 - Front Seat Belt Replacement
Apr 5, 2014
About to replace seat belt (dog chewed original) and had two concerns:
1) Do I have to disconnect 12v battery (to avoid triggering airbags)?
2) Care in replacement installation due to "explosive" component?

just got a new Passat 2008, 6 MT, when I go on the freeway the passenger seat belt winding starts rattling, I have to buckle it for the rattling to stop. also, it seems like the passenger seat appears to be vibrating but the car itself is fine.

I love my Ex and I love my dobermann, but the two did not mix one day. In a matter of seconds, he almost chewed completely thru the driver's seat belt. Guess he thought I was taking too long to get out. It's basically hanging on by a quarter inch of fabric and seriously needs replacing.
I figure it can't be that hard to replace myself, but I cannot see how to remove the molding/housing that hides the mechanics of it all. I've been searching for videos, but none of them are for the Ex. :
How I can remove the housing and change the belt myself. Looking for a video or pictures.....

My "new" truck has a sluggish seatbelt on the driver's side. It won't retract all the way.
How do I get to the mechanism to have a look at it or put in a replacement?
The belt on this one comes out of the top of the seat, not from against the door.

I have an annoying problem with my 2008 Passat: the seat belt warning sound beeps occasionally while I'm driving despite the fact that the belt is fastened normally. Usually the beeping ends if I adjust the position of the seat belt buckle or shift my position a little, but this is still an annoying problem. It affects only the drivers seat, passenger side functions normally.
- is there a sensor somewhere in the buckle assembly and can I try to do something to fix it?
- if it need as new sensor should I take the car to a garage or source and install the sensor by myself?

Any quick and easy way to (permanently) disable the seat-belt nag warning?
I'm going to be up in the woods with my seat-belt off and don't want it driving me nuts...

Can disable seat belt ringer? Today I got in my truck put it in reverse and sat for a moment and the damn ringer came on for the belt then drove down the drive way and it came on again. There was no need for the belt seeing that I was just moving trailers around the yard. I had a few Rangers and a Bronco that I was just able to reach down and pull the ringer out but I also had a Ranger that had the speaker build on to a circuit board I ended up putting bondo in that one made it real quite.

How to disable the seat belt alarm on a 2008 Lexus RX 350? I tried the "reset odometer" method and that doesn't work. I also took the car to a Toyota dealer and a former Lexus technician could not disable it via computer. This alarm is annoying!

Can you turn off the passenger seat belt chime like you can on the Tundra? Dealer or owner job?

For a long time my 2004 regular cab truck has a quirk that both the driver (and passenger if present) must click their seat belts before starting the truck. If not, the seat belt chime and light flash, even though the seat belt light is off when the alarm is not sounding.
Even if the truck is in park, and the passenger gets out of the truck and back again with the engine running, once in drive it will start the seat belt alarm with everybody properly buckled.
A few months ago I was driving to work and the airbag light started to flash.
I took the truck in for the air bag wiring harness recall, and the airbag light did not flash since then, and for a little while the seatbelt problem went away.
1 month later the seat belt quirk was back again.
This past weekend the 5x5 air bag alert started. I checked previous posts, and confirmed that my air bag light does not ever light on my dash. I don't remember if it ever came on once the recall was "fixed".
My gut feel is that the wiring to the light is fine, and that this is a wiring problem in the harness. I saw a post that made a vague reference to the air bag sensor under the center console and the seat belt circuit and could find no more.
Looking for a wiring diagram? If the airbag light is out, does the 5x5 alert supposed to indicate that the bulb is burned out, or that the bulb is out AND there is an airbag fault?

On my 2004 F-150 (new style) the passenger seat belt will not release. What steps do I need to take to find the retractible mechanism in the back portion of the seat? Does one have to cut the fabric? I removed the head rest and the top portion where the belt rides but can't locate the retractible part.

I have a Sonata 2008 4 cyl. I started getting Airbag and passenger seat-belt signs blinking. Whenever a passengers seats the seat-belt light does not blink, but airbag warning on my dashboard is still turned on. I went to the dealer and they told me to replace the cushion for the passenger.

The timing belt broke in my gf's '08 accent recently and I decided to have a crack at replacing the belt after getting a quote for $900 from the nearest mechanic (with no guarantee it would fix the problem).
When re-aligning the cam and crank to TDC, I wasn't sure if it mattered which revolution the crank was on (ie. 1st or 2nd revolution) when putting everything back together. I tested rotating the engine with the new belt on slowly to make sure there was no contact and everything seemed ok.
So basically now everything is back together, tried starting it up and it won't start and now i'm wondering if it would make a difference or not if the crank was rotated 1 additional revolution. Otherwise there is more significant damage.

Vehicle is an 08 Hyundai Accent 1.6L three door (hatchback) with 20,197 miles. This car was born on Oct. 16, 2007 and purchased in April of 2008. I told the owner to call the dealer and find out about when they should replace the timing belt as I had looked it up at the Gates site and found that it is an interference motor and also these Hyundai have some kind of lengthy warranty. When the tech or whoever she spoke to at the dealership asked about the mileage, they told her that she does not need to worry about the belt for about another five years, were rude and sounded inconvenienced by her calling. This leaves her with a bad taste in her mouth and more importantly, mis-informed.
I get the "Maintenance Log" out of the glove box and upon trying to decipher the timing belt interval, it states that the first course of action is an "inspection" at 30,000 miles or 24 months. How is a timing belt inspected? From what I have seen, a belt can look perfect today and snap tomorrow. But anyway, the next entry for severe service is replacement at 37,500 miles or 30 months which means this belt should have been replaced in October of 2010. Next entry is normal change at 60,000 miles or 48 months which puts us at April of 2012. After this it goes to 75,000 miles or 60 months.
I have already picked up the kit for changing the belt, tensioner, idler, and the two seals. How critical is it to change the spring as that was not included in the kit I got? I'm planning to do this job here in the next couple days as from what I can figure from the above log, It's way over due. I was reading some Hyundai forums and one stated that the 2011 model with the exact same engine calls for the first replacement due at 90,000 miles. How's this possible? Seems like these people (engineers) don't have all their stuff in one bag...

I need to get my front driver seat and passenger seat replaced because they look so beaten down. The cushion is almost gone and looks very wrinkly.
I really need to come up with the excuse because i doubt they will let me change it if i tell them that its getting wrinkly and the cushion is gone.

Instructions on how to disable your seatbelt chime.
1. Buckle Seatbelt (1.1) go to ACC mode.
2. While depressing the brake, turn the key to the ON position. I Was thinking someone might experiment with in the ACC mode might work by pressing the start button w/o your foot on the brake pedal.
3. Press the trip reset button a few times, stop when the ODO is displayed (not trip distance - A or B). If the odometer starts at the mileage, cycle through anyway.
4. Turn the ignition to LOCK.
5. Unbuckle the driver's seat belt.
6. Turn the key to the ON position again. When the dash lights comes on, press and hold the trip reset button, and count to 20 (slowly).
7. While still holding the trip reset button, buckle the driver's side seatbelt.
8. The odometer display should read "b ON" or "b OFF". Depress the trip reset button to toggle.
9. Unbuckle and Turn OFF the car.

I noticed that sometimes when I take off my seatbelt a little early when I drive into the parking lot at work or drive into my in the parking lot at work, the seatbelt beep. I get it. It's a warning that you should be wearing your seatbelt. No problem with that. I'm just wondering why it's inconsistent. Sometimes it beeps, sometimes it doesn't.

What is the procedure to disable the seat belt beeper on a Prius C II?
View 7 Replies
I want to turn off the seat belt beep on my C. From what I understand, it can be customized by the dealer when you get the car (free?), but I didn't know that until I read the manual. I asked at my last maintenance and they said there's a $50 fee because they have to connect to the OBDII port and push a few buttons. I asked when scheduling maintenance next week, was told the same thing about the fee, and the employee said they'd check with a manager and let me know about doing it free (haven't gotten a response).
