I have a 2007 Prius Tour version. The right side of the dash squeaks and rattles.
I noticed today in my new to me 2007 that the dash is lifted a little where the airbag is on the passenger side. Should I be concerned?
View 12 Replies2010 Matrix XR, car drives great except while driving off of parking lot going slow over bumps I hear a bit of rattling noise coming what seems like the driver side dash area... it almost feels like its coming perhaps from the steering wheel but the steering wheel feels very tight with no play at all.. Other than that it's all good can not hear anything wrong driving on a smooth road or a highway...
View 9 RepliesI've been hearing buzzing and rattling sounds somewhere around the top of the dash in the mornings when the car was cool, by the afternoon many times the sound would go away a little while when the car warmed up in the sun.
Sometimes it would buzz when it was cold or hot. It sounded like it was coming from the HSI display area, but I couldn't quite nail down where it was because its a little to far to reach while driving. Also I didn't want to scratch the clear plastic cover with my fingernail.
I finally took my car in and the technician drove around with me. He confirmed that the noise was coming from under the dash. After some discussion with his supervisor, he came back and said it was the insulation pads which had broken down and needed replacing. He said this was due to the heat. He told me this involved taking off the dash board and was an all day (8 hour job) of about $800, but they would charge me only half, about $425. I was stunned because I have never had this happen in another car. I use window shield and keep my car in a garage most of the time. It does not sit out all day by any means. So I am looking for solutions before I go back and say that it seems this should be under warranty. I purchased the extended warranty when I bought the car new, but after reading over the packet, it does not seem to cover insulation pads in the dashboard. I love the car, but it is really annoying when we are driving around town and have a constant noise from the dash.

2007 Silverado 1500 ... Thought i had the dreaded cold start piston slap but discovered it was left side cat rattling internally on cold starts only makes noise for about 30 seconds. head pipe has been down 3 times due to transmission issues.. my question is if i gut the cats out will it damage anything or throw out codes ?I understand legal the ramifications ,just didn't want it to break up and plug up.

Since I can hear it so clearly I'm leaning towards its the dash or something behind the dash, It seems to be coming from the drivers side.What could it be?

I hear a buzzing/rattling noise when stopping at low speeds or starting at low speeds. It seems to be coming from the drivers side. Doesn't happen every stop/start.
Got my Prius v 5 in June and since then, there is the most obnoxious rattle coming from the back seat (passenger side). It's intermittent, depending on who's in the car with me. When I'm alone, it happens about 80% of the time. When my kids are in the car, it depends on which one and what seat they choose.
I've taken it to Toyota twice, and they're unable to detect the problem. I'm convinced that this is because the weight distribution is difficult to replicate. It is seriously making me crazy and I'm ready to turn the car in and get another (NOT a Toyota).
After traveling on the prehistoric roads (99% of the roads) in DC that have not been maintained since the Stone Age, the front passenger door is rattling (or something in it/within the vicinity) at only 3000miles. It looks like this happened after I started driving on the beltway. The beltway has less potholes than the prehistoric roads BUT on the beltway, you'd be hitting those potholes at 65mph.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2010 Prius 2 with 58K. A few weeks ago, mainly when turning right, my car makes a strange sound on the driver side (never on the passenger side). This noise is not very loud and almost sounds like two chains hitting. It usually makes this noise when I turn, but not every time I turn, and it usually happens when I first start driving.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2012 Camry SE and my front passenger seat seems to shake/shudder alot. It constantly shudders and makes so much noise when no one is sitting in it, that it's driving me crazy! I can't tolerate the noise of it. If I go over a bump it shudders, if i'm driving on a rough highway, it shudders and shakes so badly that I have to put my hand on it to make it stop. It makes squeaky noises as well. It doesn't happen when driving on smooth surface.
Secondly, the center dash is very squeaky, and made out of hard plastic. I feel there is no insulation behind, and thus it squeaks whenever I go over a bump. What steps did you take to resolve it?
Mine is 2010 gen 3 Prius. I bought it brand new and about 6,500 miles. From the beginning, I sometimes hear a grinding and rattling sound coming from the right passenger side. It is not from plastics. It is mechanical sound. But the problem is it does not happen all the time. So we were hesitant to go to dealer because they will never find it. But it got more frequent with cold weather.
Now, it does make rasping buzzing sound like a loose fan usually after I start a car in the morning and the heater is kicked in. I don't think it has something to do with fan because if I just run it itself in high speed, you cannot hear it. It is just some bad combination that makes this sound that makes you go crazy.
We are afraid that something big will happen after the warranty is over but as we expected the dealer said they do not hear the sound. The sound comes out in low accelerating and disappears in high accelerating. Now I really regret having bought Hybrid. It looks like the dealershop has no clue where to look at. I think the sound gets worse with the cold weather.
I can hear rattling coming from the driver's door at low speeds on uneven roads. At higher speeds there are no noises, it only happens at speeds of up to 50 km/hour. I removed the door panel and there are no loose parts.
View 14 RepliesUpon starting, my 2002 (160,000) has a rattling sound coming from the passenger-engine side. I just started noticing it and it seems to happen in the morning on its first start up. It doesn't seem to be effecting driving, but not sure if it was something to be concerned about.
View 2 RepliesWhen I'm driving over sharp bumps I hear what sounds like a small chain jingling around. I took off the hubcaps and jacked up the car to see if anything loose. I grabbed the exhaust pipe and shook it, but it didn't make any noise. I couldn't see anything that would cause it. The front right strut's rubber cover is off so could the strut make that noise?
I just read a few posts with similar problems, but one was a compression sound and another was a knock, and another was a metallic hick up. Mine is literally like a loose high pitch chain noise and change rattling in your pocket. No uniformity to the sound. But it also only happens over quick small bumps not large ones like speed bumps.
First issue started a few weeks ago. When turning left at a speed > 20mph or when turning wheel quickly I get a rattling noise, which is more prominent with the driver window down, so it sounds like it comes from the driver side front wheel, but not quite sure. It is fairly loud as I have had pedestrians look at my car when turning because they can hear the rattle.
Second issue started this morning but has persisted every time since. When the car is cooling down, we get that whirring noise, which I presume is thr coolant pump. That noise also happens now when I enter the car, and it is accompanied by a knocking noise as if somebody is hitting the outside of the car repeatedly. This is quite unnerving as it sounds like something is hitting the bodywork of the car. It stops immediately when the normal whirring stops.
I had the steering and water pump recall done in november last year, could this be related to that? Forgot ti add the car has done 49000miles....
So, fresh off the new brake actuator pump and new hybrid battery and a nice four hour drive yesterday and today i went over a small bump and started to get a loud clunk/rattle coming from the driver's side front wheel area.
It got worse as I drove home and even rattles going straight on a fairly flat road when i hit only minor imperfections. It sounds like something is loose. I cannot reproduce any noise bouncing the car or rocking it side to side.
Prior to this I would get a squeak/groan from the driver's side when I would go over speed bumps and similar large dips or rises, but that has been curiously quiet for awhile.
So, simple question. I have a squeaky driver side door.
I'm interested in some color matching door grease. I've always hated the black gunky door grease. Why? Cause I'm OCD. I saw on the MKVI R [on CW anyways] their door hinge grease was color matched.
If this is too absurd, any recommendations for removing/cleaning the grease currently on the door hinge and replacing it? It comes off as straight forward.
Randomly my driver side door hinge squeaks....
