Prius (Gen 2) :: 2006 - Park Button Resets Clock
Apr 12, 2014
My 2006 Prius has strange behavior. Sometimes when I turn it off, (Push Park button, then Power button) it blinks the screen and resets the clock.

View 9 RepliesSo everything in my car has no memory issues but my clock always says 1:00 ... when I start the car....
I have tried another control unit (the climate control, nav screen, etc buttons) where the clock is located to see if I had a bad unit and it still did the same thing.
I have a brand new battery from Lexus and everything else in the car seems to be fine....this was an issue before I bought the new battery.
I am the happy owner of a white 2005 Santa Fe 2.7l with 105,000 miles on her. Trying to figure out why the dashboard clock resets itself at random. It doesn't do it while I'm in it or driving. Only when I return to it when parked at a store or wherever, or mornings. The car seems to have plenty of juice when running. New alternator and battery were installed last November. Triple-checked those parts and cleaned some connections under the hood.
View 3 RepliesEvery once in awhile my car "resets." When I turn the key to the off position, my clock and trip odometer resets to 12:00 and 0.0mi and my radar detector shows a warning of low voltage.. I looked at all the fuses, and they are all good. And it seems to be intermittent.
View 3 RepliesFirst off, its a new battery and I checked my battery connections which are tight and clean. Sometimes it starts up and sometimes it gives me nothing and takes a few times before it will crank. For a few days before that started the clock was resetting sporadically... sometimes i would get in my car and start it and it would be fine - and sometimes i would start it and it would reset to 12:00. Today it started to die, twice when i was stopped at red lights it would completely just lost all power - but I was able to crank it right back up and it started right away.
Last year I had the clock resetting thing as well, it lasted over a month - then one day after a long trip I pulled into a gas station and the car just wouldn't crank up - the battery was dead and I bought a new one. So the battery I have in there isn't even a year old yet. Funny thing is I had that battery tested and the guy said it was good - now I wonder if it was my battery last time at all. Seems like its something electrical, something somewhere. The a/c goes on and off on it all the time, but that has happened for a few years now.
My info screen will display all info but the clock will reset over and over and the. Buttons will not respond?
Here is a video of what it's doing : [URL] ....
My Pris 2010 would not start this morning. My wife tried to start the car this morning and it would not start. All the symbols on the display light up and would not go. She then tries to turn off the car, but the Triangle symbol with the exclamation mark within it lights up. The Start button light is red and the Park button flashes green. Added to that is the constant beep that you hear when you try to close the door with the keys in the car. I cannot even turn the steering wheel. I had to get it towed to the Toyota dealer and am was told that i would hear back tomorrow.
View 19 RepliesMy brother installed a CD player in my car a while back and did something wrong. The interior lights don't work anymore, the clock on the dash resets to 1 o'clock when the car is shut off and the driven miles reset every time as well. I have checked all the fuses and they are good. Someone went in and looked at the wires behind the CD player and they didn't see anything wrong. What could cause this issue? (Subaru Outback 2000)

View 11 Replies2011 Prius II, purchased 2/2012. Driving down the highway, and the car pops itself into Neutral and the check hybrid system warning light comes on on. Had to have it towed to the closest dealership who pretty much told me it must have been my fault; I must have hit the park button driving down the road. However, about an hour prior to getting on the highway, we were driving down the road, heard a beep and started decelerating. I noticed the car had some how ended up in Neutral. Shifted it back to drive kept on our merry way. Half hour later we pull into a gas station, and the park button is not working. The only way we could get the car into park was by turning the car off (pushing the power button).
Once we got back in the car, we checked the park button and it seemed to be working again, so we took off down the highway. We only got about a mile before the car popped back into neutral, the check hybrid system light came on, and we could not keep the car in drive (by shifting it back into drive) because within one second the car would pop back into neutral. The day previous to all this, my car had just had its 5k mile maintenance.
The next day I didn't even make it out of my drive way before the car pops itself back into neutral, but no codes or anything pop up. Put it back into park and drive to work without further incidents. I bring the car to the dealership where I purchased it and they opened a ticket with Toyota drive it for 100 miles and cannot recreate the issue and Toyota is unaware of any issues with park button or the spontaneous neutral shifting. This was 2 weeks ago.
Today, I was parking the '05 Prius and noticed the gear shift stuck in the drive position instead of the usual "pop back" you experience when you put it in drive. The park button woud not engage. The same thing happens in reverse.
The dealer said they have had to replace the gear shift on a bunch of cars with this sticky gear shift problem.
I have a 2006 Explorer XLT. Each time I drive it, the trip miles have been reset to zero, and the gas mileage re-starts at zero, and the truck seems to not run as smoothly as it does in the midst of a couple hundred mile trip.
If I stop for gas and take the key out and open the door, the ECM seems to reset itself back to factory defaults. It don't seem to store anything. It seems like there may be a blown fuse for memory storage or something similar, but I haven't found a blown fuse anywhere. It acts like it would if you remove the battery ground and touch it to the positive to reset the ECM.
Which fuse this may be and its location? Is there another possibility of failure?
Both tail lights are out. Replaced bulbs, no dice. Checked the fuse, looked ok, replaced it anyway. Noticed that the license plate lights are working.
View 2 RepliesIf you remove the battery contact (effectively removing power to the car) does the trip odometer reset? Just wondering, as I plan on doing a relay install for my HID setup.
View 2 RepliesMy 2005 Prius, 88K miles, has developed an odd quirk. For about a month, the AC will not retain the last temperature setting. For example, you drive the car, set the temperature to max cold, arrive at your destination, turn the car off and when you start it again the temperature has reset to 75 degrees. Never used to do this before. I'm hoping it is just a module of some sort and not a major AC repair.
View 6 RepliesI've had a Prius (2nd generation) since 2006 and have been thrilled with it.
So today, I purchased a Prius V (three, I believe). Very happy with it in general so far, but incredibly disappointed to discover that some of the features I have most enjoyed about my 2nd generation don't seem to come with my version of the Prius V.
On my Prius (2nd), I can unlock the hatch (and all other doors) simply by depressing the rectangular button with the key FOB in my pocket. That does *not* work on my Prius V and everything in the manual and what I can find online says that it *should* work.
2006 when started, the lighted ring around the power/start button is red, where I guess in the past it would light up green.
The closest thing I could find to suggest what it might mean would be a bad 12v battery. Those articles I found relating to the 12v battery said the car would also have the red triangle light lit up in the instrument panel along with the red ring around the power/start button.
I always listen to my Ipod in the car, but about a month ago the AUX button doesn't do anything when I press it the button is like this [CD AUX] but when I press the AUX side aux mode doesn't come on, but the CD side works. I took those plastic wheel trims off , it looks way better. I was looking on here and found out how to get into system check mode on the display and it gave me these codes for the radio, can't figure out what they mean though.
View 13 RepliesDoes this look like a bulb may be burnt out?
It is dark between 5 o'clock on the speedo and 8 o'clock on the tach.
Where are the dash lights and what type are they?
I traded in my 2009 passat CC GT TDI and drove away in my spanking new phaeton full of smiles now after owning it for three weeks that has turned to a as its let me down four times and now yesterday after failing on my drive way was collected by the garage and taken back to the dealership for investigation.
The problem is when the car is cold sometimes it gets stuck in park. The symptom is the car starts fine and with the foot on the brake the green light goes on the dash and the light by the stick but im unable to press in the silver thumb button so i can select a gear. I can feel the the solenoid through the gear shift operate but the button still wont go in.
The car has only traveled lest than 1000 miles. I am really disappointed as you can imagine having saved up a lot of money to buy this luxury car. I know the garage will get it sorted but am I alone in having this problem.
I can't figure out how park assist works... When I put it in reverse, I hear a tone and the button flashes (this is an '06 Passat BTW). I tried it with my dad standing behind the car and it didn't signal to me that an object was there (I eventually hit my dad - don't worry, he's okay).
I've also tried pressing the park assist button on approach to my parking spot at my apartment, I have my motorcycle parked in the front of the spot sideways, so I pull in right up to the bike (head first), and again, no beeping or anything even though the park-assist button is blinking and it gave me the audible ok). Am I doing something wrong?
