Upon starting, my 2002 (160,000) has a rattling sound coming from the passenger-engine side. I just started noticing it and it seems to happen in the morning on its first start up. It doesn't seem to be effecting driving, but not sure if it was something to be concerned about.
View 2 RepliesMine is 2010 gen 3 Prius. I bought it brand new and about 6,500 miles. From the beginning, I sometimes hear a grinding and rattling sound coming from the right passenger side. It is not from plastics. It is mechanical sound. But the problem is it does not happen all the time. So we were hesitant to go to dealer because they will never find it. But it got more frequent with cold weather.
Now, it does make rasping buzzing sound like a loose fan usually after I start a car in the morning and the heater is kicked in. I don't think it has something to do with fan because if I just run it itself in high speed, you cannot hear it. It is just some bad combination that makes this sound that makes you go crazy.
We are afraid that something big will happen after the warranty is over but as we expected the dealer said they do not hear the sound. The sound comes out in low accelerating and disappears in high accelerating. Now I really regret having bought Hybrid. It looks like the dealershop has no clue where to look at. I think the sound gets worse with the cold weather.
Went to dealer today for rattling noise which appeared to be coming from bottom of engine on passenger side. Dealer diagnosed bad a/c compressor and had to order. This noise has been going on for past week and noise appeared with and without a/c on and always at "idle" speed. Noise would go from barely audible to very noisy and loudest with a/c on. If I turned a/c off, noise would diminish immediately; however, still audible with a/c on. Car only has 2,950 miles and a/c works fine, other than the rattling noise at times.
View 2 RepliesMy 2004 F-150 5.4 has a rattling noise coming from the passenger side of the engine when at operating temperature. The cam phasers and all related parts have been replaced. The reason I was prompted to change the phasers, chains, guides and tensioners was due to the engine stopping on me as I returned home from an errand. The engine had already shown signs of needing the phasers replaced.
The engine runs very smooth while warming up. Vehicle lacks power and has a rough idle after warm. Took the truck to a local mechanic, in the process of making a diagnosis, he performed a compression test. Cylinder 3 psi was much lower than the other 7 cylinders, the mechanic recommended replacing the engine (possible bent valve).
I have a Haynes manual, have searched youtube and checked this and similar forums, I have yet to find instructions on the removal of the head from the block.

I have a 2011 Sonata with 40k miles and am hearing what sounds like a dragging ... medal touching medal .... brakes dragging sound coming from the passenger side mainly when the car is cold. Could this be a possible wheel bearing going out???
the car is lowered about an 1.5 inches and and sit on a staggered wheel set. 18x8.5 up front and 18x9.5 in the rear. Just want to know if I should be worried.
Got my Prius v 5 in June and since then, there is the most obnoxious rattle coming from the back seat (passenger side). It's intermittent, depending on who's in the car with me. When I'm alone, it happens about 80% of the time. When my kids are in the car, it depends on which one and what seat they choose.
I've taken it to Toyota twice, and they're unable to detect the problem. I'm convinced that this is because the weight distribution is difficult to replicate. It is seriously making me crazy and I'm ready to turn the car in and get another (NOT a Toyota).
So, I have heard a little bit about the oil pump bolt issue. However, I am still confused. Was this issue fixed for the 2008 model and what are the symptoms? I changed out my valve cover last night due to a PCV valve failure. The car is running great except there is a slight rattling sound coming from the drivers side of the engine at idle. I know I left nothing around the car that could have gotten in the motor when the valve cover was off. This issue was not happening before changing the valve cover. What could be causing this noise, or is it typical for this motor?

Picked it up after 2 days and upon starting heard a very loud rattling sound from engine; as if it were going to drop right out of the car. Shut it off and re-started ok, but very concerned. No repeat of incident until this morning. Same sound at start-up (now at 12,600 miles). My daughter who was inside the house could hear the noise. I used the car the previous day, parked outside in driveway as usual. Now very very concerned.
View 19 RepliesI'm hearing a sound of closing something coming from the rear passenger side that. the sound comes randomly many times while driving. it doesn't come when parked. it sounds like the automatic antenna that is on 1995 Accords that closes and opens. is that the vent? also, do all prius's have that sound? is there something wrong with my prius?

It almost sounds like an AC compressor issue (had the same problem with my F-250) but there is also an accompanying "gurgling" sound as well. AC problems with the Gen 2 after 160,000 miles?

There's a pronounced rattling sound coming from the front passenger area (I think), and you can hear it when the radio is playing. I booked an appointment at the local dealership, but the appointment was just cancelled because an "interior technician" is not available on weekends. Not only that, they said I may have to leave the vehicle at the dealership overnight, and that no courtesy car would be provided. Personally, I think that's complete BS - you don't need a P.Eng to diagnose a rattle, and what dealership doesn't have a courtesy car?
So, I'm curious to know if others have experienced anything similar, and if they've had any luck correcting interior rattles. I previously had a minor clicking sound in the overhead console area (bluetooth, lights, etc.), but that was quickly fixed at a different dealership.
I picked up my GS350 this past saturday.
I took a 64 mile round trip drive yesterday with the audio between 16-22 volume and there's definite rattling coming from the right passenger side door.
This was through the Satellite Radio Feed. It wasn't all the songs but any songs with the extended drawn out bass you can here it rattle.
I'm about 115 miles in and will most likely take it in this week. There's nothing in the side door compartment...
I've a loud squeaking sound coming from the front of the engine on cold start. This only happens when I start the engine after overnight parking . There are no squeaks when the engine is warmed up or when I start up with a warm engine.
I'm driving an 07 Camry and live in a region with hot tropical weather.

What could be the probable cause of the this and how do I rectify it?
I have 06 gs300 AWD and recently it started to make that noise. At first I thought my shock/struts went bad and i had it inspect and they are good, ball joint and control arms also good. However, I do not know if strut mount is bad or not. When I go over small cracks i can hear rattles inside but when i let my windows down I hear less. I do not know if the window or door has to do something with it. It seems like coming from passenger side. Btw sometimes i do feel even dashboard rattles a bit.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Sport with a six-speed manual trans and an in-line 4.0 6-cyl engine. I discovered a month or so ago a strange rattling sound coming from, what sounded like, the front passenger wheel area. It would occur when I slowed down to 10mph or slower or when coming to a complete stop, or when starting out from a stop, until surpassing the 10-12mph mark. The rattle is audible both inside and outside the vehicle. It's a low-pitched sound like an "aaaaaahhhh" you make when opening wide for the doctor to look down your throat, only with a metallic rattle thrown in. Best way I know to describe it is a voice saying "aaaaahhhhh" through the back of a fan.
I recently discovered, when I took it in for an oil change and tire rotation, that my front tires were wearing much faster than the backs and had a very noticeable "choppiness" to the tread. I have since installed new shock absorbers on both sides of the front suspension in hopes that would even the ride out for the front and eliminate the choppy tire wear. I originally thought that the tire wear and the rattle were related, but I took it to a mechanic who raised the front end and hand-spun both front tires and they made no audible sounds while spinning.
The mechanic said he believes that the rattle is coming from the front differential. Now, I am no pro mechanic, but I am not afraid to tackle a car repair job as long as I know I have the tools I need at hand to properly complete the job. First of all, does the differential sound like a good place to look? There's no change in the rattle when applying or releasing the clutch and it shifts smoothly, so I am pretty certain it's not in the transmission. Is the differential something that I could remove the cover and adequately diagnose a problem on my own? Just don't have funds available for a large car repair bill, so I am looking at trying to tackle the issue myself.
So I picked up my Accent on Tuesday with only 8kms on it and I love it! However I have one problem, I was driving around today and kept on hearing a rattling noise coming from the front right passenger side. I tried to lower/raise the window but I think it may be around the speaker.
View 3 RepliesI just purchased my first VW, a 2012 Tiguan SE in Night Blue Metallic. The level of fit and finish, handling, and general feel are miles ahead of my old '04 Jeep Liberty.
Anyway, I've had the car for about 250 miles and have noticed a clunking/rattling noise coming from what sounds like the front passenger side suspension arm. The noise is fairly quiet but seems to consistently happen when turning left over uneven pavement.
I plan on taking it to the dealer this weekend and it is only a minor annoyance, but a shame since the rest of the vehicle is so quiet and refined.
