View 13 RepliesMy 2005 Kia Optima has 138,000 miles and cuts off after it has been running for a while. I've taken it to a Kia dealership and they replaced the Catalytic converter and an oxygen sensor but no luck. I've taken it to a private shop and had the plugs replaced and the timing belt. Still no luck. What could be the problem?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2000 monte carlo ss. A few months ago the check engine light came on, the temp gauge stopped working, and after shutting the car off you can hear the fan running for about 10-15mins after i shut it off. I assumed it was the thermostat, so that was the first thing i changed. For the first few weeks everything seemed fine. No check engine light, temp gauge worked...then today suddenly it all started happening again. What could be causing it if the thermostat has already been changed? what should i try next?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2014 Lexus ES300h. I just started noticing that after 2 to 4 hours after turning the car was turned off, I am finding what sounds like the electric motor running. There is a buzzing sound. I can turn the car back on for a few mins and then back off, the electric buzzing sound goes away.
Since owning the car, I've never found the car buzzing. It sounds like the electric motor is charging the batteries. Do I need to have this checked? I have 28k miles on my car and have never had an issue.
I just received my Scangauge II. Hooked it up and while under ice throttle it stays on but when I either attemp pulse and glide or straight stealth mode it shuts off? I am in process of reading instructions
View 9 RepliesMy Prius makes a noise (maybe a pump noise?) after shutting down car. I shut down and it makes the noise as I'm getting out - it lasts maybe 5-10 seconds. It sounds like a pump is running and a bearing is going bad. Attached, zipped video is about 1.5MB, 10sec long.
View 8 RepliesI have a 08 prius and every now and then when I shut off the car I hear the tiniest little beep and I can't figure out what it is. It isn't my FOB as I've already had that beep and fixed it over the summer. It has been going off and on for the last 2-3 months, I can't make it happen on purpose so the dealership thinks I'm losing my mind and no its not my cell phone beeping either. It is definitely the prius beeping ...
View 2 RepliesVery hard to describe this sound but it is coming from under the hood and lasts for about 10 seconds.
View 16 RepliesSo it's an issue I've noticed 3 times now this summer. The car has been driven for at least 5 minutes each time and should be past the warm up phase. If I'm sitting at a light, the gas engine just keeps running. I thought it might be some kind of computer error so I tried powering the car off and turned it back on. EV mode will stay on for about 30 seconds but then the gas engine turns on again. Battery is 3/4 full like normal with the AC on. I've tried putting the car in EV mode but it says "not available". Temps in Houston have been in the high 90's recently so I'm wondering if this is the result of an overheated battery or if it's something I need to be worried about and take in to the dealership?
View 17 RepliesTwice today with cooling temps (45 during the day, closer to 30s on way home) while shutting down after being put in park my Prius did the "lurch forward and shudder." This is something new! Fuel has been purchased consistently from the same Shell station, she's garaged at night and MPGs are averaging 45... OK but nowhere near my great warm weather mileage. We are at close to 2200 on the odometer if my memory is working right - 2012 4 version. Happened once at the bank after work, once in the garage, level ground.
Not sure what is going on... this is new to me with a new car....
It's been my goal to get my car to run a 13 on the stock turbo for years. I got bored last night and decided to roll out to the track and finally did it. In the past I had tried just about everything, pulled the back seats out, ditched the spare, and hours of data logging timing trying to dial it in just right but never could. Of course last night I was running with a full interior, spare and even had a passenger with my timing still pulled back -2.25 deg from the summer heat, didnt even check my oil or air pressure and I pull this off
R/T: .498
60': 2.147
1/8: 8.983@79.47mph
1/4: 13.818@102.59mph
Only problem is this was really my only goal for the car so I dont know wtf to do now??
Three times recently my 2008 Touring Edition Prius has experienced a shutdown of the engine while driving. Each time I was able to coast and/or use battery power to get to a safe location. The “Triangle-of-Death” and the Check Engine Light was illuminated on the dashboard. Since my car is equipped with a scangauge, I was able to see the codes and clear them on the spot. After restarting the car, it showed no adverse reaction to shutting down and all was seemingly well until the next event. The codes listed below all seem to be communication lapses.
My question is; where do I start in my pursuit to diagnose and repair?
7/15/14 - 98,889 miles U0293 and U0100
7/23/14 - 99,414 miles U0293 and U0100
8/21/14 - 101,065 miles U0100 and U0000
I have a problem with my 2002 Prius when I was driving down the highway the master warning light came on with a warning display screen appearing saying that there is a problem in the Hybrid System and then the car went into shut down mode. I had it towed to the dealer for diagnosis and an estimate. The codes read were P3000, P3004, P3125, and P3009 they did not tell me the sub-codes read. Their diagnosis was the inverter needed to be replaced. The Main battery on this car had been replacing at 140,000 and there has not been a problem since the car has been well taken care of throughout its life. Being new to working on hybrids but not cars and electronics I figured I could replace it cheaper than the dealer price of $4200. With the age of the car and high miles 175,000 I figured it would not be worth the new part price so I got a guaranteed used inverter. After replacing the inverter I still got the same problem with no change.
So I decided I would have to diagnose it myself. The car starts and runs fine and starts charging the battery right away as normal but if try to but it in reverse or drive it fails so that means the short would have to be in the transaxle. I decided to test MG1 and MG2 for shorts and I figured I would need to use a megger to do this but I did not all three winding on MG2 test shorted to ground on the 200-ohm scale on a regular ohm meter. Then after closer inspection of MG2 cables, you can see a coating of corrosion running up all three cables. So the question I have is this corrosion on the cables a common problem for 1st gen and could it be possibly just a cable issue and not MG2 and can the cables be replaced without dropping the engine and transaxle???
I have a 2006 with 142k miles. Sometimes when the engine shuts off, its not as smooth as it used to be...any thoughts?
View 3 RepliesI got home yesterday around 5 pm, and after 5 1/2 hours, noticed a buzzing noise from the battery area. It was 50 degrees out, so I don't think it needed cooling? Anyway, I plugged it in for a minute and the sound changed, then unplugged and after a few minutes the sound shut off. Never experienced this before, so long after shutting down. No sound this morning and charging now, no problem so far.
View 10 RepliesOur 2005 Prius with 160,000 miles is displaying warning lights and the gasoline engine is reving at times and not shutting off when the car is at a stop light.
The dealer says it is throwing a P3000 and P0A80 codes. I asked for subcodes, the dealer doesn't know what I am talking about.
The dealer wants to replace the hybrid computer for $900 and if that doesn't fix it they want to replace the hybrid battery for $3500.
I have a 2012 Prius Two, a monitor with Bluetooth capabilities. I use the Samsung Galaxy Note II with Sprint on Jellybean Android.
I have tried numerous music players on Android and here's what happens:
Music plays fine. Bluetooth paired perfectly. Randomly the entire head unit will reboot. There is no pattern. It happens after about a minute and a half. It shuts off and comes back on.
I do not have an AUX in unfortunately. When I tried my wife's HTC EVO 4G on Android It worked perfectly. Only Bluetooth.
I tried to install entune. No dice. it says that ny VIN is invalid.
I am pretty close to buying a B6 Passat 2.0t, but it has some mods on it. GIAC stage 2, with cat-less 3" down the pipe. the guy says he has tried almost everything he has read to get the light off and its not working. He even has a O2 sensor spacer on it. How I can get it shut off??
View 15 RepliesSo I will start the car, take off drive it for a few minutes (for like 15-30 minutes) I will come to a light, fine, then I will take off and she will stall on me. Completely turned off. Try to turn it back on and she doesn't turn over. She cracks, thats it. I will then wait a few minutes she will turn on and then few minutes later she will do the same.
The car has been sitting for some time and I haven't been driving it. We made sure the Throttle body is good. Someone told me it can be the crank sensor?
I read that other people have been having the same issues with there GMC Yukon. I have been experiencing the same issues of my engine shutting off while I am driving without warning. No gauges on my dashboard comes. The only issue is that I can't give gas to the engine and i have to keep pulling over and letting it sit for awhile until it would start again. I then can drive a few miles before it will shut off on me again. So far I have replace the crankshaft sensor, clean the MAF sensor and clean my throttle body but I am still experiencing the engine shutting off on me. I am going to replace the spark plugs and the spark plug wires to see if that makes a difference.
