Prius C :: Replacing Protective Plastic Sheet Underneath The Car
Mar 15, 2012
Do I need to replace any portion of the plastic sheeting that protects the underside of the car?
I recently had the oil changed and the person who drained the oil did not properly close the plastic hatch that hides the drain plug for the oil. I have gotten mixed responses from my local Toyota dealer. I would need to replace the entire plastic piece, not just the piece that broke off if need be.

My 2013 Nissan Versa SV has some kinda almost-clear sheet of plastic (I think it is; I don't think it's glass) hanging parallel to the doors underneath the car. I can't tell you if it's part of the car or somehow got hooked up into it. I wouldn't have noticed it had it not been making a noise, typically when I first start it up. After I stick in Drive the noise disappears until I'm at a stop light. So for the most part, it's only when it's in Neutral that I actually hear the problem. It's not a problem if I don't hear it.

I live in Michigan and we recently had a 8 inch snowfall. While parking my 2010 Prius it bottomed on the snow pile which took two pieces of black plastic off of the underneath front area of my car. I assume the plastic is for aerodynamics.

I've had 2 Priuses 2010 lose the oil change door from the main protective panel under the car. Many have posted about this design flaw. My question is: Does the 2015 Prius also have this potential problem? I remember reading forum posts about the TSB regarding this issue on the 2010 which I was too late to take advantage of. I would rather address this now before my warranty expires on my 2015.

I recently fixed a hollow sounding door rattle that was coming from the outer door skin on my driver's side door. It turned out to be a stiffening rib that was not bonded to the door skin anymore, possibly because of an impact or just age of the vehicle.
After removing the door panel and peeling back the plastic dust guard, I used some adhesive caulk and tapered rubber wedges to brace the stiffener and reattach it to the door skin.
The picture shows the approximate location of the stiffener in between the outer skin and the inner panel support.

I just bought a 2014.5 Camry SE. I am really loving this car but I have a question. The black shiny climate control panel (manual climate control) seems a little cloudy. I was wondering if this has a protective film from the factory that needs to be peeled off. I cannot tell by looking at it, and don't want to mess with it until I know.

My wife calls me tonight freaking out about a sound our 2012 Camry LE is making. When she pulls out or into the driveway (going over the curb and turning), she gets a popping-like sound. She says it sounds like a sheet metal popping sound. It mostly sounds like it's from the roof, but sometimes in the front of the car, sometimes in the back. The car does have a moonroof.
Of course, I'm out of town all week. I told her to take it to the dealer and have them take a listen. Just be sure to describe exactly what you need to do to make it happen.

When it's cold and the car heats up, you can hear the hood sheetmetal make an 'oil-can' buckle sound. Happens frequently while running in cold weather. It's not the hood itself, but perhaps the metal underneath. It's noticeably loud.

Starting a few days ago, I noticed a wet spot underneath the front-right of the car.
Turns out, I'm losing wiper fluid. I fill it up to the top, watch it for several minutes.. it doesn't move. Pull off, come back 5 minutes later and I've lost nearly half the tank... so it's leaking, or at least leaking worse when the car runs by way of something calling for it or the movement of the car.

My car had been sitting in the garage for over 5 hours after short drive this morning. I went into the garage ( without the FOB ) and heard a strange buzzing sound. After walking around I determined it was coming from underneath the rear of the prius. I opened a couple of doors and the hatch and the sound was definitely exterior not interior and continuous.
I don't know how long this had been going on but it was continuous for at least four minutes. I thought the best thing to do would be to take the car for a short spin. I went inside the house to get the FOB and returned to the garage - the noise was still there? I approached the right rear bumper to get a better listen and it stopped suddenly. I guess the difference was the proximity of the FOB?

Drove my car on Wednesday morning for about 5 minutes, when I parked and turned it off, sensed a really bad and strange smell but couldn't pinpoint if it was the car, or the parking garage at home (which is underground, locked), or outside. Dismissed it from my mind. Two hours later, drove the car to work (10 minutes) parked it in underground garage. Turned engine off. Coming from hood on the right side. Got out, thinking I would lift the hood and have a look but as I approached right side of car I could see flames shooting out from underneath the right headlight (could see the flames through the headlight). Took a bit of time to find water hose in the parking garage but finally got it out.
Car is a write off.... absolutely was not sabotaged, no arsonists, nothing ..... Toyota guy from Toyota place across the street walked over to have a look, said it was a total loss. Doesn't seem like Toyota is really concerned either! I was really shaken as I feared that there could be a chain reaction of all the parked cars going up in flames. Smoke was thick, people were choking... seems that other than getting a cheque from the insurance, there is nothing I can do to find out the cause of the fire. People keep saying in various forums that nothing is located on the right..that could catch on fire.

These noises suddenly appeared, and I don't know what is causing them it sounds like a pump or something.

I told them that my car sometimes when I accelerate a knocking or rattling sound comes from underneath the hood. I asked them to check it. I told him it sounded exactly like an older car I had many years ago which was the result of bad gas or too low octane.
With my older car I added higher octane gas (89) and the sound went away. I had a 2011 Prius before and never had this problem and I get gas at the same gas station for years.
So the mechanic test drove my car and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. So I'm stuck with the annoying rattling/knocking noise when I accelerate (which happens about half the time), but now I'm experiencing another problem.
A couple days later I drove to get dinner. One way it is about 7 miles. Almost the whole way the ICE would not turn off. I would be at stop light, wouldn't turn off. I pulse and glided, when I glided the ICE remained on. Take my foot off the gas at slow speeds, ICE still on.
Finally towards the last 1 or 2 miles it started going into EV when i let the foot off the gas. On the way back it ran normal. It's been close to a week now since I brought it in for service and I only had trouble one other time.

After 3 years and couple months my red prius in faithful service, i finally got by the wind noise everyone is talking about...
At first, I suspected the license plate frame was the issue and also checking around the front end to see if there's are anything that stuck in the bumper gap, wheel wall, and underneath the car but the noise still there.
Finally today...I do actually found it...I tested by either removing or putting on a new 3M tape over one of the screw hole underneath the door site mirror. Over time, some will peel off or break losses and the "gap" is the source for the high pitch noise when you driving fast enough on a road. Mine happen at around 55mph.
Ever since I remove the sticker, the noise gone. One thing I'm not sure why there are factory stickers there. But I decided to remove it because I saw water inside the 3m tape after raining.

I heard some scraping under my car and pulled over to check it out and the plastic piece under the car was hanging down. I took it off all the way so it wouldn't get damaged any more, and took it to the dealer. The piece was torn off in almost a perfect straight line, which they told me was from the piece being bent for oil changes. They didn't have the part in stock and I was going on a long trip the next day, so they put the piece back in place with new clips and zip ties. The dealer said it should be replaced at the next oil change which will be 60k for me.

It appears my prius headlight plastic has yellowed over the years. How I can get this crystal clear again?
I've tried numerous cleaning agents, waxes, etc and it doesn't seem to work.

I have a 2012 Prius. I occasionally will clean the wheel wells, as I live on a dirt road. I have found that there's a plastic cover inside the left rear wheel well, at about 2 o'clock as you face the wheel. It seems to be loose.

I have a pip which is about 2 months old and has around 6056 miles on it. I had a 2010 prius hatch before this drove it 186000 miles with out even needing to change the brakes and it didn't have any of the following symptoms.
ever since i drove the pip off the lot i have been noticing allot of creaking in the plastics inside the car and squeaking the cup holder and the dash it all got worse once i installed trd lowering springs i now this is happening due to road vibrations but should i take it to toyota and tell them that it feels like all the plastic pieces are lose inside the car and broken.
