I am going on vacation in May and am curious how long the C can sit if it's not started or driven? I have read that it can drain or possibly damage the battery from sitting to long, so just how long is o.k.? It seems like a pain to have to find someone to start up or drive the car while on vacation.
View 8 RepliesHaving issue with E-Brake when car has been park for a long time. Mine makes noise every time I leave my car park for a long time, like as if the brakes are stuck on the rotor. It would make a noise as if my rotors were rusty, and would diminish after the car has been driven around town for quite some time, but does not completely go away.

1) Is there a way to leave the ignition running and get out of the vehicle and lock it?
2) I heard we can go to the dealer to enable the remote start feature, is this true? or would we need to do a 3rd party addon?

1) How do I set the doors to automatically lock when I leave the vehicle?
2) Also, at night when I open the driver's door, the panel on the door is NOT illuminated making it difficult to unlock the door for passengers. This is a true safety issue. How can this be fixed and NO I do not want the door unlock operation buy handle touch or remote to unlock all doors.
The website [URL] ..... is valuable BUT the separate PDF manual sections is poor since it is difficult to jump around within the whole document. Each section of the document reference pages outside the current section. There is no easy way to know what section that page is in.
I have a 2003 Saab 9-3 convertible that is having intermittent starting problems. It seems to happen when the car has been driven long distances and the weather is hot or when it is raining. It cranks fine but will not start. When it is hot, I open the hood and it starts after about 10 minutes. When it is wet is starts after being cranked for a white. My mechanic has replaced the ignition cassette and the spark plugs and it has not fixed the problem.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2005 Mitsubishi Endevour XLS w/23000 miles, when the car has been driven for long distances or especially after sitting in a hot parking lot all day, I cannot remove the ignition key. The car has been serviced by the Mitsubishi dealer three times for this, including the Endevour recall for this problem.

2006, 4.7L V8 is bulletproof, but with 165k miles already, what should I look for when inspecting the vehicle?
It's been dealer serviced. Is there anything other than normal wear and tear items that might be negatively impacted by doing so many road trips (lets say 300 miles at a time) That would be around 550 trips of 300 miles in 6 years.
The reason I ask this rather than just looking at the truck is because I'm in Dallas and the truck is at a Houston dealer... So before I drive out there, I wanted to "assume" what affect this kind of usage would do to an engine.

View 3 RepliesI love my Rig, however I wish I had more time to drive the Beast. My Ex sits at home about 90% of the time patiently waiting for it's next assignment. Service is reserved for family trips, once in awhile light duty towing, occasional date nights with other couples, loading up the kids & their friends to get ice cream, etc. I have other vehicles for my daily driver.
Curious to see how often other Ex DIESEL owners drive their rigs and what the average time the truck sits vs. being used. I'd rather drive the truck than let it idle for 1/2 hr.
My Truck has the 7.3 so, to keep the Diesel happy I don't drive it less than 20 miles when it does move. Diesel motor experts agree that driving a diesel less than 4 miles roundtrip is not good for the motor because the engine has not had time to reach full operating Temp. About to roll 260,000 and that 7.3 motor seems like it's just starting to get broken in.
I have a 2001 Kia Sportage. Manual transmission.
For the past two days, once the vehicle has been running long enough to get hot, it becomes really difficult to shift. I think I'm losing the clutch pedal. For example, when in first gear stopped at a traffic light, the car will stall out with the clutch engaged (as if the clutch weren't pressed down.) With the car moving, it's physically very hard to move the gear shift.
Topped off the break/clutch master cylinder fluid, and it seems ok. Also took a look at the transmission fluid, and it is not low.
I have a Prius v five ATP, my wife asked if its possible to leave the screen set to the radio. I haven't figured how to do this yet. I usually have the trip info displayed, but if I hit the radio button it brings up the usual screen displaying the radio info for a minute or so (or however much time that she's changing the stations) but then switches back to the previous screen.
Is there a way to set the radio as a default so it doesn't switch back to the previous screen? Or use the split screen function for this?
I sometimes manually cut the headlights on during the day and I noticed that there is no bell or dinger that alerts me that they're on when the car is cut off. I assume the lights will cut themselves off after a period of time? Just concerned I might kill the battery if I don't notice I left them on.

I have a 2012 Subaru Legacy 2.5i with 42k miles, full synthetic oil, and a 3 year old battery. Will I have any issues when I go to start it upon my return home?
The car always seems to fire right up, and with these warmer temps, I am thinking I'll be ok, but thought I would ask. I just kind of want to know if I should be looking for someone to jump me when I get back to my car.
Last, in warmer temps, in the garage, with a good battery, how long can a car usually sit for without being started? Also, if I start the car and just let it idle for 5-10 minutes, will that recharge the battery, or do I need to actually drive the car and get my speeds above 60mph?
Took my 2010 with 10,250 miles to the Dealer yesterday because there is an uncomfortable "tinny" rattle heard under the car when driven over sharp bumps and dips (rough road). Almost like a loose brake shield. At oil change I made mention of this and a missing fastener and nut clip was thought responsible. This time I had a test drive with the mechanic and we verified it was on both sides having done several passes on the same road hazard. After a period of trouble shooting in the shop, a decision was made on the front struts, but none in stock. Brought it back this morning for the replacements and was found not to be the problem.
This is one of those noises you can duplicate on the road, but not easily in the shop. Have had no accidents or run overs, and the car is in perfect condition otherwise. It is not the oil door.
I have been experiencing this problem for sometime now. I notice it especially when the battery shows low and after stopping at a Stop sign. Also when I go uphill.
View 17 RepliesI made the mistake of lending my car to my sister who drove about 50 miles with the parking brake on.... And yes it beeped at her the whole way and she didn't think anything of it..... What kind of damage could have been done? Brakes seem to work fine although the parking brake barely works now.

View 5 RepliesA couple months ago my VW Passat started locking itself and sounding the horn spontaneously, and now it is rolling down the windows randomly as well. My key isn't in the ignition when this happens. I got locked out once which was annoying, but now the windows rolling down make it a security issue and I really don't want the windows down in a parking lot during the next snowstorm. The heater quit working last week, too.
The car is only 2 years old and the dealership said they can fix the heater but they aren't sure what would be wrong with the spontaneous horn/window/locking problems.
Yesterday my 2013 R-Line started downshifting in a harsh manner. Vehicle has been serviced regularly every 8,000 km in accordance with the VW Maintenance Schedule as outlined in the Owners Manual. It is also completely stock and daily driven (mostly highway).
Today I took it to have it checked out as I suspected the TCU might be the problem. As it turns out they said that the entire Transmission needs to be replaced. I have 108,000 km on the odometer now so the Canadian Warranty has expired (100,000km)
I was absolutely gutted as it seems absurd that an automatic transmission would fail with relatively low mileage. My old MkV GTI with a DSG is still going with over 300,000 km.
This is my second Tiguan in the past 3 years. I have also owned a MkV GTI and also currently own a Mk6 Golf R. I have always been good to all of my VWs(maintenance) and they have always been reliable until now.
I have just replaced a fuel pump on my 98 neon and it started up and then shut off after about 5 minutes. there is electricity running to the pump just not kicking it over what could be the problem
