Conditions often allow me to choose between moderate to high current draw in stealth mode, or a lightly loaded ICE (<1300 RPM). How much power do you find it's best to allow in stealth mode before you decide to give the throttle a slap and fire up the engine?
View 12 RepliesI have only been driving my Prius for a month. I have been paying close attention the to the Car energy usage screen. I have been noticing the car (while on cruise control) entering into stealth mode (Engine seemingly off and power getting drawn from battery only w/ about 3/4 bar on EV) on the highway @ 60mph going down a slight decline. I have been trying to mimic this on my own w/o the cruise control, but no matter what I try (P+G and other techniques) I cannot get the same results.
View 18 RepliesMy 2002 Prius A/C is acting strange. From what I understand, if you have Max A/C on it will keep the ICE running. Lately my car isn't doing that. Whenever I'm at traffic with the Max A/C on it will go into stealth mode then it will turn the engine on then back off again in a cycle.
Also whenever I hit the brakes or simply slowing down with the ac on the whole car will shake violently like theres a strong earthquake and its about to stall unless I shut the A/C off. This only occurs when the A/c is on btw.
Note :: I've had my ac charged so its not out of refrigerant. But I don't know what's causing it.
I'm a longtime Prius owner starting with a 2007. Currently have a 2010 model V (not the wagon, the trim level with ATP). The maximum stealth mode speed (i.e. ICE not turning over) is about 46MPH. The maximum stealth mode speed for my old 2007 was 42MPH.
I just bought a 2012 Prius c as my commuting car. What is the maximum stealth mode speed?
I have a 2007 Prius with about 77,000 km on it. Lately I've noticed that the car would make an unusual noise sometimes when driving at around 50 - 60 km/hr in stealth mode, with slight accelerator pressure such that the energy monitor shows power flowing from the battery to the motor (ie - not gliding or regen braking).
View 1 RepliesLast night, I was cruising at 35mph and the car suddenly stalled. All the lights popped up (red triangle, CEL and PROBLEM on the the center display) and I pulled over to a stop. I tried restarting it immediately, but the car would not go into ignition mode. The car was driving fine up to that point. No maintenance or work was performed on the car recently. When in accessory mode, all the lights, radio, etc. worked. I disconnected the 12v battery for 5 minutes but it had no affect. I searched the forum, but did not find a thread about this occurrence. I rented a OBDII scanner but it needs to get into the IGN mode to read the codes! What is the problem? A simple faulty switch or relay?

Been driving around a lot trying to empty the gas tank in my new Prius and was wondering what the "Cruising Range" figure actually represents. Do the miles listed mean I have that many miles left until the tank is bone dry, or is that the range until the tank gets to the warning light?

View 5 RepliesOk, had the prius c four for a few months now. What is up with the gas gauge? When I get down to one rectangle my cruising range drops to like 9 miles. I got gas and put in 8 gallons, which means I had 1.5 gallons still. Why is it showing such low cruising range mileage? Looked through the manuals by couldn't find anything useful. Also, is there a way to see exactly how much gas you do have? The rectangles seem a bit arbitrary to me when it comes to representing an actual amount of gas?
View 13 RepliesI've got a 08 f250 ext cab long box with the 5.4 gas. I know I know 3/4 ton gas. Trucks got NO power at all loaded and unloaded and really bad fuel mileage. Driving like a grandpa in town I'm getting 7mpg on the hwy unloaded I get 9 or 10mpg loaded on the hwy the trucks working way harder than it should and getting 6mpg.... I'm wanting to swap the 5 4 for a 6.0. Reason I saw 6.0 is my buddy's done egr delete. Bulletproof oil cooler head studs and a edge with attitude chip and has great power and reasonable fuel mileage. How hard is it going to be swapping the motors.

Cruising at normal speeds and shifting into 5th gear at about 2000 rpm. when to apply throttle and the car chocked or slipped then regained power. Almost like it went into limp mode for a second or traction control kicked in. Im not sure what it could be.

View 15 RepliesSeveral time lately I've gotten in to go to work and the battery shows for half sometimes 3/4 of charge, but it will not go into EV mode. But I can be in town driving and it will go into EV mode with only 2 bars of charge. Whats up with that.

View 19 RepliesI've been hitting the EV switch to keep the car in EV mode for the first couple minutes. It kicks off at about 20 mph. It does let me get up to speed using EV mode so my hope is that will translate into higher fuel savings.
The default and Eco modes require starting up too slow while hitting EV lets me apply more power and faster acceleration. Wondering why Toyota didn't engineer that into the car though?
In reading the manual, I note that it says to use the ECO mode when you're doing a lot of stop and start driving. Does that mean I should NOT use it on the interstate? My daily commute consists of 11 minutes start and stop to interstate, 11 minutes on interstate, and another 11 minutes of start and stop. My Prius is not quite a month old, so i am still learning.
View 16 RepliesNew to Prius. I have read everything I can find on getting better MPG and find different ideas about using EV. My car is a 2014. Most say DON'T use EV except to move the car or just before the ending of your trip.
My thoughts are the ICE is not very efficient at or below 25 mph. Why not use EV excelling from a stop? Or driving 20 mph anywhere? I notice my car goes electric below 45 mph using very light throttle on a level or slight down slope.
I haven't lifted my foot to force it there, just driving to go with traffic or maintaining speed. So some Toyota software engineer thought it best to use electric even if I'm doing 44 mph ???
I searched but did not find a post about entering diagnostic mode of Prius 2010. Is that possible at all?
View 19 RepliesMy friend is an aggressive driver. After she drives there is a drop in the calculated mpg's by at least 2 mpg sometimes as much as 5. Would it be better for her to drive in POWER MODE not only for the mpg's,?
View 3 RepliesI've been using the EV mode - the EV portion of the curve without pushing the EV button - to run around town and to maintain speed once I've accelerated to traffic speed. It really boosts the mpg numbers and I'm able to get 55-60mpg on my 47mi. Roundtrip mostly highway commutes (hills included). Without the running in EV it's probably 42-48mpg.
