I recently noticed that my back seat was all wet. It appears water is coming in from the middle of the seat and spreading outward as far as I can tell. The car has been parked outside overnight. All four windows have been rolled up and there is no water in the trunk.
View 3 RepliesMy 2005 Prius has 281,000 miles and is burning oil. No smoke or leakage just have to add oil between oil changes. I drive about 30,000 miles per year with my job. Car is paid for and I love not having a car payment, but fear this may be the beginning of the end.
View 4 RepliesMy 2005 Prius is 161,000 miles old and I have only taken it to the dealership exclusively for service from the start.
Right before my last oil change the warning light (red triangle or with exclamation point) came on and the oil icon came on on the control panel. It would only come on when I pressed on the brakes. I finally pulled over outside an auto parts store and checked the dipstick. It was not showing any oil at all.
I went inside the store and put in three quarts. Took the car to the dealership the next day and they could not figure out why the car had apparently consumed so much oil. In fact, their scanning did not even show the warning light had ever come on.
Odd, since there were no leaks found. They changed the oil and told me to bring it back 1,000 miles later. Today, 1,000 miles later, I checked the dipstick and found that it shows only 1/4 full. When I last checked the dipstick, leaving the dealership, it showed close to full.
Up until my last oil change at 105,000 miles, I didn't notice any oil usage. When draining my oil, it didn't look like it was quite 4 quarts. After the oil change, I ensured that I had the engine exactly topped off to the upper mark on the dipstick. Around 600 miles later, I parked in the same location and have noticed that the oil level has dropped enough to notice. I am guessing that I will lose well over a quart between oil changes. Before I resign to the normal mechanical reasons (rings, cylinder wear, etc.)
The loss doesn't seem to be gradual which has me looking for other explanations. I also had a Toyota mechanic go over the car and replace the other fluids and filters at 100,000 miles (coincidence I think ).
It looks like I have a small leak under my 2001.5 Passat. It is a yellow fluid. I just had my engine light come on but it has since gone off. Whether or not its an easy enough fix to do myself. Very Little actual fluid comes out and if I had not seen it in the snow I would not have noticed.

View 3 RepliesI have a 2001 Echo 4-door with automatic transmission that is giving me hell. I smelled raw gas fumes coming from the car and checked under the hood and under the car and ended up finding the leak by smelling the fumes right next to the fuel filler door. The car is getting terrible gas mileage (about 26 mpg) but otherwise runs just fine.
My husband took the filler neck off and inspected it. No blockage or damage was found. It was reinstalled and the same problem came back. This time we traced the lines back to the charcoal canister and removed it. It is from this port that the raw gas fumes are escaping to the atmosphere. I should point this out: the gas smell only occurs when the car is running. If I have been driving it for a few minutes and it has warmed up then it is quite strong. There are no fumes when the car is turned off and cooled down.
My passenger seat doesn't spring back when I recline it. The car is 15-months old?

View 4 RepliesI heard a fan sound coming from the back seat after driving in traffic for 45 minutes. It was coming from the vent in the back seat. I didn't know that that vent had an electric fan. I assume it was the battery being cooled. I have never heard this sound before.
View 5 RepliesI got some manual of the internet on how to take out the bottom off the back seat. I got it off and installed the seat covers. How do I reinstall the seat. Instructions say attach rear hooks then push down to attach front. I attached the rear hooks but can not just push down on the seat to install the front. Sitting on it does not let it latch on. How to make the front latch on? This is on 2010 Prius. I got the u tubes going inside the white connectors but they will not latch on. Is there a trick? Seat is faom and Styrofoam so I don't want to just push down as I might break something. It's GT covers that I am installing.
View 1 RepliesFan is pretty clean. Before re-assembly it will be blasted with ~100 psi from an air compressor. Driving around like this is fine for a while to check diagnostics. How noisy is normal? This is the first time I noticed the noise.
We've owned this silver 2011 Gen 3 from new and it now has 37K miles after about 3.5 years. Today it's ~70F in Atlanta, so not hot compared to how it will be soon. We had the s/w recall done about six months ago and I've possibly not driven the car since (have a few cars).. my wife drives it most days and did not notice probably due to music but I felt it was very loud like there was hole in the side of the car (first thought was some vent to the outside became stuck open but the vent near the auxiliary battery is fine).
Is there a way to read the fan speed via Android Torque and Bluetooth OBD? Should I disassemble the entire length of the venting? Might there be something inside there causing a blockage?
Got my Prius v 5 in June and since then, there is the most obnoxious rattle coming from the back seat (passenger side). It's intermittent, depending on who's in the car with me. When I'm alone, it happens about 80% of the time. When my kids are in the car, it depends on which one and what seat they choose.
I've taken it to Toyota twice, and they're unable to detect the problem. I'm convinced that this is because the weight distribution is difficult to replicate. It is seriously making me crazy and I'm ready to turn the car in and get another (NOT a Toyota).
I have a '10 IV and my drivers seat clicks in the middle of my back. It seems that it may be the top of the lumbar cushion going bad.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2014 Prius v that I bought new in January 2014. I've had this persistent rattle which seemed like it was coming from the back seat behind the driver. I've taken the rear seat partially apart and glued and shimmed things to no avail. I've emptied the entire contents of the rear storage area and it still rattled on. Anyhow I've had this rattle for six months now. Turns out the noise is coming from under the car just ahead of the rear tire where some body type plastic which juts down about 2". This piece rattles when against the frame just ahead of where one would put a jack for lifting the car. I've temporarily stuffed some old paper napkins, which were handy, between the plastic piece and the frame. Noise is gone! I'll eventually remove the napkins and then load up the area with silicone. I'm doing both sides of the car just in case.
View 6 RepliesI am trying to remove the upper portion of my passenger seat for my 2012 Prius C. This is not the part that you sit on. It is the part where your back rests against. The part where the head rest attaches to. I'm not sure what the formal technical name of the part is.
View 8 RepliesThe headrest of back seat will bend over when fold down the seat. But one of the headrests can't go back to original up position. The dealer has adjusted the cable but this just temporarily fixed the problem. The problem is back again. I will go back to dealer but can they really fix it? Should I ask for a replacement of the whole seat?
View 1 RepliesI rarely drive with anyone else in my 2004 Prius. This week we've had out-of-town guests, with two people in the back seat. When the doors are locked, the front seat passenger can pull on the handle to open the door, but the back seat passengers can't open their doors with the handle until someone in one of the front seats pushes the door unlock button. The child safety locks are not set. I keep getting out of my car and forgetting to push the button to let the back seat passengers open their doors. Is there anything I can do to change this rear door behavior?
View 2 RepliesA few weeks ago I started to notice that the battery vent fan was turning on way more than usual. I've had the car now for five years (34K miles) and I've only heard the fan go on a handful of times, even in the hot Las Vegas summers. Once I really started to pay attention to it I noticed the noise only started once I hit about 30-35 mph and got louder as I went faster. As I slowed down, the noise would get quieter and eventually stop as the car came to a stop.
This week I caved and brought the car in to the dealer to get checked out and they did an inspection of the vent, fan and did a complete diagnostic on the hybrid system and batteries. I was worried about damage to the traction battery if the vent fan was malfunctioning or clogged. I'm out of warranty with no extended coverage so I was pretty shocked that the dealer didn't charge me a dime to do the tests. All the tests came back clean and they said all the systems tested above average and that the fan was operating normally so I shouldn't worry about it.
But the noise still persists and it's starting to drive me a little batty. It has never made this much noise before. Is there something else that could be going on that the dealer missed? Maybe the noise I'm hearing is something else and it only sounds like it's coming from that area?
I got a 99 v6 passat and it looks like I'm leaking coolant from the back of the engine, like under the TB.
View 2 RepliesI collapsed the rear seats this morning, loaded the Treg up with stuff (nothing too heavy) and drove 200 miles. Got home, unloaded stuff and then tried to put the seats back up. The center seat belt is integrated into the passenger side 60% folding seat. But for some reason it's now "locked" as the belts do when the car is in an accident.
Since the belt is tight as it is in the lowered position, it will not allow me to lift up the back portion of the seat. After looking at it in the somewhat narrow view I have from between the floor and the lowered back rest, I can see that when I try to lift the back rest, the belt needs to slack some to allow the seat back to go all the way up. But since it catches, it only allow the seat back to raise about 6" before it's too tight to raise the seat back anymore.
I looked at the mounting bolts for the bottom portion of the belt in the space I can see and I see a 12 point star pattern bolt (not sure of proper name). With my Passat, I was able to find a suitable allen wrench that fits in the 12 point star pattern bolt that controls the back door catch for adjustment purposes. But with this one, I tried both metric and SAE and neither has a close enough match.
The belt locking mechanism allows for about 1" of belt travel before it locks. I've jiggled with the belt trying to get the mechanism to unlock so I don't have to remove the belt anchor point on the floor of the car (which I don't have the right wrench for). Anything I can do with the belt? Or do I just go after getting the right wrench and undoing the anchor to allow more belt slack to reset the belt?
