Unlike the full-size Prius I used to have, the c seems to have a speaker somewhere under the hood which makes a buzzing/grinding noise when the car is powered by battery rather than by the engine. Is there a relatively simple way to disable this? I miss 'stealth mode' actually being stealthy. Possible to disable the EV mode 'growl'?
View 4 RepliesMy car had been sitting in the garage for over 5 hours after short drive this morning. I went into the garage ( without the FOB ) and heard a strange buzzing sound. After walking around I determined it was coming from underneath the rear of the prius. I opened a couple of doors and the hatch and the sound was definitely exterior not interior and continuous.
I don't know how long this had been going on but it was continuous for at least four minutes. I thought the best thing to do would be to take the car for a short spin. I went inside the house to get the FOB and returned to the garage - the noise was still there? I approached the right rear bumper to get a better listen and it stopped suddenly. I guess the difference was the proximity of the FOB?
I got home yesterday around 5 pm, and after 5 1/2 hours, noticed a buzzing noise from the battery area. It was 50 degrees out, so I don't think it needed cooling? Anyway, I plugged it in for a minute and the sound changed, then unplugged and after a few minutes the sound shut off. Never experienced this before, so long after shutting down. No sound this morning and charging now, no problem so far.
View 10 RepliesMy 2010 Prius V just past the 24000km mark. I have a buzzing noise coming from the engine bay during startup. It happens when the interior fan is on. You can hear it clearly after you start the car, during the silence of the "boot up", before the ICE kicks in. I can't be sure if it continues to buzz after that because the sound of the ICE drowns it out. However, If I shut off the fan during the boot up, the buzz disappears. Finally, if I leave the fan off and start the car, there is no buzz.
During a recent oil change, a hybrid technician claims that this is normal. It used to happen infrequently but now it is consistent, so if it was normal, I should have heard it when the car was new.
In the past few days, our car (2006 Prius) has begun making some louder-than-normal noises while driving. I've determined that the noise appears when you turn the wheel at all to the right (note: not just making a right turn...any degree to the right past straight is enough). It seems to be constant when the car is running, but really only becomes perceptible around 30 mph. The sound is sort of like a buzzing. Maybe a grinding, but not quite. It sounds like it might be similar to this issue (2006 Engine Noise - buzzing, especially loud on highway | PriusChat), but I can't quite be sure.
View 4 Replies2001 Elantra, Going good now apart from the fact its draining the battery slowly overnight when powered off, I've hooked up an amp meter with everything powered off and still its drawing around half an amp, Is there any known faults that could cause this or any tricks for finding this kind of fault or do i have a hunt on my hands?? Not sure if this is related or not but when driving an intermittent clicking sound can be heard from inside the driver door.

My regular 20 year mechanic checked transmission, replaced timing belt (at 65K; now have about 74K); all idler pulleys; checked alternator; He thinks is is the AC drive pulley on the compressor; Hyundai dealership did not know what it is; laymen have suggested is is a power steering pump, reservoir issue. Power steering fluid level is fine. Otherwise, the performance of the car is fine.

When the car is running, the noise is not there OR it is drowned out by the engine, but when you turn the key and run on battery, you hear a buzzing and it sounds like it is coming from the engine, it stays until you turn the engine on or turn the key back off.

For the past few months I've been hearing a loud fan-like buzzing noise coming from the passenger side of the front of the car. I don't know that much about cars, but it almost sounds like the engine is racing or something is spinning too fast. It has gotten increasingly worse, and seems especially loud at high speeds on the highway.
It is not the heating/cooling fan - the noise is present when the heating/cooling system is turned off.
04 with 200k miles, car started stuttering like out of gas, when stopped there was a grinding noise from engine. Took to dealer on trailer, when it was taken to the mechanic all problems went away. Changed oil looking for metal chips, none. Did computer upgrade which was the only code on the check engine light.
Drove car for two days on short trips, four or five times 20 to 30 miles. Ran great. At around 40 miles on next day same problem. No lights or codes of any type. Carried to dealer again, they said they were not sure if it is the engine, transmission, or something in between. I was told they would have to take it apart to find out and the least amount it would cost is $5,000.
The grinding occurs when the engine is running only. when revved up it is louder, at idle the noise changes while sitting in park, louder quieter etc. when driving on electric, sounds perfect. (no sound at all)
Just bought a 2005. My wife had turned the car on and had the heater on while I was loading groceries. Then I got in, hit the power button, and the console turned on (though I don't think 'ready' came up), and several of the dash lights came up as amber. ABS, VSC, and 3-4 others. I couldn't shift. After 20 seconds or so of confusion, I turned it back off, sat for a second, and turned it back on again - worked fine.
View 9 RepliesI have a Toyota Tacoma 2006 which lacks all the gadgetry and techno-wizardry of the Prius C model three (which I just purchased). Yet the moment I lock the truck with the key fob, if the headlights were left on they turn off instantly, allowing me to walk away with peace of mind that I won't return to a drained battery. I love this feature on my Tacoma because I can leave my lights on pretty much all the time which allows me to pull out of the lighted parking garage in the evening without driving for multiple city blocks unaware that my lights are off.
My issue: I just bought the Prius C to work more efficiently consume gas during my 60 mile commute, and I'm surprised to discover that the headlights just remain on even when turning off the car and engaging the locks/alarm.
Someone told me that they supposedly go off after 20 minutes but I'm not comfortable walking away from the vehicle and trusting that this will happen.
Is there a way to ensure that the headlights go off when the car is powered off and the locks/security system is activated? If there's a "window" of time that it takes, can this be adjusted?
BTW, averaging over 50 MPG each way to work despite the "47 MPG HWY" EPA estimate...
just purchased 2013 Persona, where I could tap power for the DVD headrests that I plan to install, when shipment arrived. I thought about looking in the fuse box, but I am a vehicle newbie. I will be installing the headrests myself, but am clueless as to where to tap for power. I want the headrests to be powered only with the key in the ignition.
View 2 RepliesI replaced brake pads on my 05 Prius Monday. The instructions I have say to pull 2 relays and pump and hold the brake pedal until I hear a buzz. This has worked fine the last time I did the brakes. This time I got the Brake, Parking brake,VSC and ABS lights when I powered up.
I did not open the hydraulic system, just push in the pistons. I test drove it then touched the brakes. The left front and right rear rotor/drums were hot but the others were not. Long story short, I want to reset the ABS system.

I've got this tinny buzzing noise coming From the engine bay that only happens between 2800 and 3k rpm. I hear it whenever I'm cruising on the highway and shifting through gears. Also if I have the windows down you can hear it outside the car.
OK started getting a buzzing noise coming from the engine bay on the drivers side. Cant locate it from outside the car, only when sitting in the car stationary with the engine on. Does not do it from cold, only once the engine is warm. ie drive for 30 minutes, park up, run some chores for say 20 minutes, get back in car and then drive off, when i then say stop at some lights, i hear this buzzing sound (sounds like a pump or motor). Normally goes away after about 10/15 minutes. This started happened after last vist to dealership when they replaced my electric harness and also fixed some o rings on the water pump. Wondering if it is related to the last visit or something new maybe on the air suspension or what.

View 6 RepliesI recently noticed some kind of a faint buzzing noise coming from the engine area. basically when the radio is off I can hear some kind of a buzzing noise under medium load, it sound like a loose heat shield or something. I took it to a dealer this morning, did a test drive with the tech who also heard the noise, got a call later on telling me that the noise is normal and is present on the other Tiguans as well.
View 4 RepliesThe dealer had my bluetooth set up for me but since day one theres been a buzzing noise when talking through it. Other people on here have experienced it as well. Someone on here said the cancelled theirs out and then reconnected their phone and the buzzing disappeared. I managed to disconnect mine but even following the owners manual, I can't get mine reconnected. It keeps saying no device found.
