Just curious about the tires that came from the factory to be noisy and loud when at highway speeds? I only have 1500 miles on the tires, will getting more miles on the tires say after a few 1000 miles or so? Also what is quieter option without sacrificing mpg?
View 19 RepliesI have a 04 v6 model , in the last couple of months when I am on the interstate at about 75-80 mph. I get a very loud vibrating noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer thinks the drive shaft has some play in it.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2001 Toyota Camry, Manual, with about 190,000 miles on it and I am having 2 issues that may or (more likely) may not have anything to do with one another.
1) I am experiencing really high (over 3k) RPMs at the lowers speeds in each gear right after I shift, especially in 5th gear. After a few seconds, if I back my foot off the gas, the RPMs drop down to a normal level and increase at a normal speed. Several other people have posted this and supposedly this car might lock me out of overdrive if its cool, but I have a manual, could this be my problem? Also it happens at least sometimes in lower gears as well, it does seem like the car is staying in a lower gear rather than changing when I change it.

2) My car has gotten really loud, its not a weird noise, just kind of a vrooming type sound, however it is coming from the back of my car (maybe more on the right) when I turn left the sound gets louder and when I turn right the sound goes completely away.
Background of the car, had a leak in my power steering pump that I had patched, and had the front wheel bearings replaced. whenever I get to about 40 mph, the tires sound quite loud, however they quiet around 45 and don't get loud again until about 65. However, when I go left around a bend the noise disappears. Also, maybe unrelated sometimes when I back up and then put it into drive, the car stalls out. I'm curious if this issue just means that I need to replace my power steering pump or if it might be something else? It's a 2005 ford Explorer.
View 1 RepliesI drive a 2000 F250 5.4L. Currently has about 168,000 miles on it. I changed the oil the other day and cleaned the air filter. I used what I usually use on the oil change which has never been a problem. But this is first time to clean the K&N filter. A day or so later my engine is making a loud air rushing noise. Under throttle the engine compartment sounds like a wind tunnel. At 3500ish rpms it makes a harsh whistle noise. The air rushing noise doesn't go away once its warmed up or after the engine has been cool. Noise didn't go away with the filter being taken off either.
Could all of this be caused by cleaning and not using k&n air filter oil (but rather WD40 upon Dad's suggestion)? Or is there something else going on?
So... My car started making a loud thud noise... Thought I blew a tire...sounded similar... But I see nothing wrong... Not sure where to tow it to....
View 19 RepliesAbout a month ago my Touareg started making loud rumbling noises at highway speeds. It sounds and feels (it makes the whole truck vibrate) like you're driving on the "wake me up bumps" that are on the shoulder. Some times it last for 30 seconds and other times it goes on for the whole trip. It's driving me crazy; however the dealer can't reproduce the problem so they think I'm crazy. It doesn't do it all the time, however, the only common symptom is it happens at speeds above 65 mph. It has happened when it the car was cold and hot, cruise on and off and variable highway speeds. The transmission was replaced right after I received the car due to a malfunction, so the dealer doesn't think this could be a second faulty transmission.

Similar sound at lower volume when the shock/spring is depressed (pushing down on that corner of the car). Louder at low speeds.
View 6 RepliesMy Prius c has always made a high speed whirling noise when braking but now at speeds of 42 to 46 MPH this high speed whirling noise is there and when you are just coasting have a noisy transmission or is this something I should be getting to the dealer with.

I noticed it a little after driving for days on very snowy/slushy/gritty roads where I had to plow some parking spots with my little 2013 C3. Tonight I was driving into Vancouver and back at 100+kph and noticed like a whirring sound or like a higher pitched humming sound possibly from drivers side front tire?? A little vibration felt through the wheel.
View 7 RepliesLately, when slowing down to a stop, or very slow speeds, the intake ducts make a very loud moan. It sounds like a muted horn really. Sometimes, I can put it in park, and it'll be making the noise. Open the hood, and it feels like it is coming from the plastic intake tube. When it does this, the motor likely stalls out, and needs to be restarted.
Another issue, we cruise with it at roughly 100 kph. It works good, that 4.0 has gobs of power, but when cruising, sometimes it will very randomly work bad, just have a misfire hissy fit! It doesn't affect the cruising, but it just works funny.
Its a 1997 Ford Aerostar with the 4.0 OHV, and the E- 4wd with the Dana TC28 transfer case.
Need new tires for my R32. I am not satisfied with the OEM Dunlop tires, will not buy them again. They make too much noise!

View 11 RepliesI have a 2007 Honda CRV with about 85k miles. Always had a lot of road noise, but recently my husband and dad road with me and were very concerned about a "womp, womp" noise in the tires. It matches the revolution of the tires, so when I get going fast I don't hear it. I had new tires put on, rotated front to back, and balanced. My husband thinks it's worse. Also had new front brakes (steering wheel shook when I braked at high speeds). I'm at a loss and have spent quite a bit already. Could this be wheel bearings? Tie rod ends? It sounds like the tires but it's definitely not.
View 19 RepliesIt seems like the tires on my new Prius is very noisy. Sounds kinda like they're snow tires in that they hum and whine a lot at low speeds. I only have about 200 miles on the car. Tires are Toyo Proxes on 17" wheels and are rated M&S.

Since the blue book value on the Touareg is worthless and I've got it paid off, I might as well keep it until the wheels fall off of it. Anyhow, on to the problem at hand ...
When driving on the interstate at high speed somewhere around 80 - 90 mph and you push the accelerator to get that extra bit of speed out of the downshift so you can pass or just for the heck of it, the transmission starts clunking, LOUDLY, which of course causes you to let your foot off the gas. The clunking continues for about 5 - 10 seconds until the car has slowed down a bit.
I can still get the car up to speeds of around 110 mph (my wife tried it just about 15 minutes ago on our way back from Florida), but it has to be done gradually as to keep the transmission from downshifting.
Around town the car responds fine. Occasionally it will have a hard shift, but I can't find a reason or pattern to that. Fifth gear also works fine in city traffic, I've used tiptronic to keep it in 5th and I've also watched the main display change from D4 to D5 to D6 and back again without incident.
I'm too afraid to take the car up to 90 and then engage tiptronic and downshift to 5th. This transmission has had its fair share of problems. I'm on my third stepper motor, the forward transmission seal had to be replaced and then later the hydraulic pump had to be replaced. There are no noticeable fluid stains on the belly pans and there are no stains on my garage floor, so I doubt its leaking fluid. Can you even check the transmission fluid level in this thing?
Other than the transmission problem, the Touareg is behaving fairly well. (Knock on wood) It still rides nice and I've learned to put up with the little electrical anomalies that happen like the blue strobe backlight compass (it's just dancing along with the music) and the lights switching ON in full daylight (with the euro switch installed).
My car has 130k miles and has recently developed a worrying noise. It makes an extra whirring sound, like another set of gears spinning, but I don't think I would describe it as a grinding noise. I live in VT and I thought maybe it was my (studless) snow tires making more noise in the warm weather because I noticed it about a month and a half ago when it warmed up. Now that I have my all season tires on, it's still making the noise. The tire guys didn't notice anything wrong when the swap happened (but they only do tires there and I didn't ask them to look for anything).
As far as I can tell it is dependent on wheel speed, not engine speed. It starts at about 20-25mph and gets louder the faster I go. At about 65 the normal road noise is louder than the new noise. If I turn the wheel to the right to any degree the noise goes away. I can't tell if it is completely gone, but it seems like it is. There is no real change if I turn the wheel to the left, though it might get slightly worse. When the noise is going I can feel a vibration in the floorboard that matches the sound. The sound seems like it is coming from in front of me, but I can't really tell if it is left, right, or center. As far as I can tell that is the only new noise, no clicking/griding when I turn the wheel etc.
I'm taking it in for normal 130k maintenance in a week....
Alright I did a search and found these threads with no final resolution on each. My new 2013 has the whistling noise at high speeds (65+) and high winds. It's for sure not from the engine and coming from both the driver and passenger mirrors. I can hear it with either or both front windows down but not back windows. No whistle at idle or due to high RPMs. What is the Jetta TSB # or a fix for this issue.

My grandma had purchased an almost brand new B6 Passat with the 4-motion VR6 all leather interior with about 8k on the odometer. Recently she has had some problems with it and has asked me what is going on, My dad has an Audi Allroad, my mom has a 01 A4 event and I have a 04 GLI so we know some stuff about the cars but these problems are eluding me and I was going to look for some counseling. First, her front tires are making this horrible sound, she says it sounds like a Mack truck and it gets worse as you go faster. I'm thinking its the tires but why would it be like that only after 8k? The second problem is her transmission, she has had the transmission fail to engage into gear 3 times, where it takes about 2-10 seconds before it engages. Now the car has about 10k on it. [URL]....

View 25 RepliesI bought a 2012 Toyota Prius 2 on Jan 28, 2013 (just a little over a month ago). The front tires and steering wheel vibrated at highway speeds (here in NY 65-70mph) and so I took it in, they said it needed wheel balancing and rotation. Fine.
Then I was told to wait it out because of the "snow" and "ice" could be the culprit, fine. Then a week or so later, same problem still, even when it got warmer. Took it back in. This time the wheels were "off balance" again. Hmmm, that's funny. So they did a dynamic or forced balance? I don't know exactly, but it was a step up from "normal" balancing (according to them).
The past couple weeks it hasn't been vibrating nearly as much, but it is coming back again intermittently. Today I was driving home from Watertown, NY to Syracuse. It's about an hour or so drive, and it is a state highway, so it isn't too torn up or potholed. Between 66-70mph the steering wheel vibrates quite bad and RANDOMLY at that. Some roads the car at 70mph feels super smooth others not! And the weirdest part is some of the roads it feels smooth on are bumpy or slightly torn up!
I've looked up all the causes of steering wheel and tire vibrations, and I see that there are about 5-10 potential causes. If I have to take this car in one more time I might just scream.
