Prius (2010-12) :: Trunk Won't Open
Dec 19, 2013
The driver side door opens, but no matter what I do, the trunk won't open. I've tried pressing the fob a few times, and nothing happens.

View 19 RepliesIt seems like you can't... It can't be unlocked if you have keyless entry so long as the car is running... Why? Any way around this?
View 11 RepliesWhen you press your remote, trunk will stay closed and won't open. Must use the lever under the seat for opening it. What can cause this issue.
Battery is new. Also there is some another issue, didn't look it yet, one of the plate lamp is not working while trunk is closed. When you lift up your trunk it will begin work, when you close - no work.I assume there is some wire connection problem, but how it might affect the opening a trunk?
The trunk lid on my 2014 Hyundai Elantra has popped open all by itself about a dozen times in the six months I have had the car. The dealer has replaced the latch assembly (no dice) and then replaced the remote key (no dice).
View 11 RepliesAfter driving my 2012 Elantra for about two years, I have many times had the trunk just open, seemingly on its own. I always figured that it was simply my fault: you know, I bent the wrong way and the fob in my pocket got the trunk button pushed, etc...
But I always felt that there was more to it than that, as I doubt my pants push the button that much. Now a friend that I work with expressed the same trunk doubts to me about his one year old 2013 Elantra. He said that yesterday his trunk was open and he had not even touched his keys. Incidentally, I had a trunk opening experience yesterday too!
So what gives with the spontaneous trunk opening? Is there an identifiable cause? A known software defect? Something else?
I just bought an used 2010 RX350. It has a button on the key that automatically opens the trunk, a button on the left of the drivers side that automatically opens the trunk and the button on the trunk that automatically closes it (so you don't manually close it). But after I bought it, I noticed that when I push the button on the underside of the trunk it does NOT automatically open.
View 4 RepliesBought 2013 rx 350 and the button on the dashboard to open the rear hatch trunk just beeps twice and wont open. i have to use the remote to open and close and the button on the trunk works to close it.
View 10 RepliesFor some reason, I didn't close my trunk door good last night and I discovered that the trunk remained open all night long, about 12 hours. I am worried that the trunk light may have drained my battery. The car started up just fine with no delays or odd noises.
View 3 RepliesI left the trunk of my 2007 Prius open long enough for the light to drain the battery. Once I jumped it, I was able to drive the 100 miles home, even though the red triangle warning light was on. Now when I turn the car on, there's a light I've never seen before, as seen in the attached image.
View 11 RepliesWhat is the weight limit for the Prius to avoid so the back end doesn't sag too low while driving? I would like to place 2 big suitcases and 2 small carry ons in the truck. Is this too heavy meaning will the backend look too low while driving? Weight on all 4 (150lb approx) plus 4 people (350) is what worries me.
View 19 RepliesI sent my car out for a new clutch and timing chains cause I did not have the time to do my self. So when I got it back I try and get into the trunk and the key will not turn the lock so then I tried to do it with the switch and you could here it unlock but again still would not open.
Also I called the mechanic and he claims he never heard this b4 cause the key should always be able to turn.
So my Passat 2.0T 4dr trunk will not open up on it's own.
When I press the trunk release button inside the car or on my key fob, the trunk latch releases but it will not fling up on its own.
How would I fix this? Do I spray WD40 on the latch bar??
I have bumper to bumper warranty on the car....Do I just take it to the dealers or is this something I can fix? Will the stealership try to charge me for this work?
I have 2005 Camry. The trunk will not open with any key, remote key fob, release next to seat or even crawling through back seat and using emergency release. There is nothing in the trunk. A liner prevents me from seeing the actual latch.

The other night I reached down to pull the trunk release and it didn't open! The button on the key will still open it (and so will using the key itself) however so I've narrowed it down to the little cable that runs from the release all the way to the trunk. What I should try? Is this covered by any warranty at all? I know I have the optional top tier warranty but I'm completely blanking on its name.
I had a flat tire yesterday and when my husband went to change the tire we couldn't open the trunk. I tried pushing the button in the glove box and I still can't open it.
View 1 RepliesCan't open the trunk and need to get it open for body work. How can I unlatch it from the inside.
View 6 RepliesPacked my car with luggage in the trunk got to my destination and I can't get the trunk open. From the trunk itself to the release on the door to the button on the remote nothing will open it. I am screwed because I really need to open this trunk and no VW dealers are open.
View 10 RepliesMy trunk wont open from the button inside the car but I can open the trunk using the remote.
View 5 RepliesFor the past couple of weeks I have been having some issues with my trunk. The MFD would say that the trunk is open when indeed it is not. With that happening the car will lock the doors but not arm with an audible beep and the door lock lights will flicker at the same time so would the trunk display on the MFD.
I found a fix by locking the trunk down with the valet key on the driver door by the trunk/gas buttons, that stopped the trunk display from lighting up and the car was no able to arm the alarm properly.
Now within 3 days the issue has come back up even with the trunk locked with the valet key. In order to get the car to arm properly I have to unlock the Trunk Switch , open the trunk, re close trunk and then re lock the trunk switch with the valet key.
Having intermittent power boot problem .. and now i cant get the boot open at all!!!! nothing happens with internal switch, key fob, external switch and i cant even open it manually with the key..
View 3 RepliesTrunk not open all the way when using the button on the remote, inside the car, or the smart sensor? It is pretty useless if your hands are full and the trunk opens a few inches and you still have to manually open it the rest of the way.
