My 9 month old Prius was caught in 3" - 4" hail today. My windshield is smashed and all the horizontal surfaces look like popped bubble wrap including the tops of the doors. Perhaps I'll get 90 mpg from now on.
View 19 RepliesWhile pullin in my 7.3 with a 4r100 from a passing hail storm, i shut her down and crawled under it just to check things out. While under there I heard a noise that sounded like something was shorting out figured out the location of the noise, but what the electrical connector is for?

After further analysis the noise only happens after truck has been placed in drive gear and then to park gear and finally shut down/turn engine off... Makes noise for around 30 seconds and is not a constant short noise like something is jumping around....

I was driving on the highway, beside the concrete wall that divides the two directions. Suddenly, I saw a deer in the air, jumping from the other side of the wall. It landed on my windshield before I realized what was happening. The windshield smashed and the hood opened. I couldn't see a thing. I tried to hold the wheel and stop the car. Then I guess I hit the the concrete side wall and stopped. All the air bag discharged. I walked out unharmed, except a little bit disorientated.
The Prius was actually beeping. Then I powered off it. I smelled a strong smell of burning plastic. I looked the front, the coolant for ICE was ok. but the coolant for the hybrid system was gone. The window wash tank was fine but the right head light was gone.
Well, due to an unresolved A/C issue my dealer has had my Treg for 2 weeks out of the past 2 months and then my front grill flew off and smashed my windshield. Dealership agreed to cover the damage but managed to sell-off my replacement windshield by accident. Been driving around for 2 weeks with a badly cracked windshield, waiting for replacement glass. Funny thing is that the crack in the glass now has made my "rainsensing" wipers trigger better than before. But now I have
View 3 RepliesI own a 2009 touring that I bought with 96000 miles and now have about 105k on it. I have changed the 12v battery to the optima and changed plugs, transaxle fluid, inverter fluid about 4 months ago. I have changed oil and filter twice since I owned it. (June 2012)
Now the problem, I got stuck on the Long Island Expressway (aka the LIE "the worlds biggest lie"), the snow got too deep and I was struggling to keep going. While driving the slip warning light (VSC)came on often.
I had a friend with 4WD tow me home about 10 miles varying speeds from 10mph to about 35mph, I kept the car in neutral most of the time and when I saw hybrid battery getting low (last blue or first purple)I would put car in drive to charge it. When we got to my house, I had to dig out a spot in front then was able to drive vehicle for the few feet to get it out of the middle of the street.
Yesterday I tried to start car and it looks like the 12v battery was drained. I am. It sure if I pushed the park button and then turned car off but I do normally so I would say that I did. I tried to jump it and I got lights on dash with the dreaded red triangle and engine light among others. The touch screen display read that the vehicle was not in park and I should get to a flat surface and apply parking brake. Also the light on the power button would sometimes be green and then go amber and the park light was flashing green. I could not get shift lever Togo into drive or reverse or neutral.
I did put a trickle charger on it overnight from the engine compartment but have not ventured out there yet.
I have a 2010 Prius and now is cold here 20-30F. So, i filled up with tinter wash fluid the bottle and today when i entered my card was 25F and i can spray out washer fluid on back window but on front window it seems it is not working. It can't be frozen because under the hood i removed hose from one connection and it is not spraying also when it is removed as i thought that the problem can be nozzles, but no. Or maybe is a pump problem? So we have two pumps on 2010 Prius for washing windows(one pump for front windows and one pump for rear windows? or there is a common one? Because there may left some water after i filled up with wash fluid. Yesterday it was working even in front and even on back. Today after i left car for two hours in underground Mall Parking i thought it will work when i'll come, but surprise, it wasn't working and there was 42F in parking.

View 3 RepliesHad an enormous crack in the windshield of our 2010 Prius and recently had it fixed. It leaked. Tech came out to fix the problem and check for water damage-we didn't see any at the time, but the fix didn't take and it's leaking again. This time, much worse. Here's what the discussion title refers to.
I'm concerned that the water damage will contribute to a problem down the road- corrosion in the electronics in the roof, damage to the carpeting(?) on the ceiling, mold etc. I would like to take the car into the dealer and have them give it a once-over, but want the glass repair shop to foot the bill. My philosophy is: I wouldn't have to get things checked out if you hadn't botched the install-twice. Their philosophy is: unless you can show us evidence of malfunction, we're not paying for someone else to look at it. I feel like they should go the extra step to put my mind at ease and make sure that any developing problem can be addressed now instead of having to wait until something goes bad.
My car was at the shop today for tinting and clear bra installation. On my way home, however, the rear wiper randomly turned itself on while I was on the highway. No matter what I did (flipping the REAR switch from OFF to INT, to ON, and back to OFF again), it still kept wiping, wiping, and wiping some more.
I'm taking this car into the service dept tomorrow morning so hopefully they can figure out what the issue is. I had a hard time talking due to a majorly sore throat.. but here's a vid I took when I got home:
Noticed that the windshield washer fluid level is ALWAYS low, needing significant amount to refill, even when not used? I'm not talking weeks or months, so that evaporation could be the cause, but rather DAYS. No evidence of leaks under vehicle, either. What could do this?
View 18 RepliesIn my 2010 Prius,My wife and I and another friend have noticed a blind spot behind the mirror on the windshield, such that I don't "see" drivers approaching from the right on a "4-way" intersection. I am a cautious driver, yet noticed several years ago that I occasionally started up across an intersection before the car on my right....I didn't SEE THEM.
This is because the mirror is mounted relatively low. I am only 6'1'' but my wife who is 5"10 also noticed this problem. In San Francisco, going down a hill, it is often hard to see a car approaching from the right. I am going to the dealer for something else and will ask that my mirror be remounted.
I noticed that there are small dots in the center windshield just above the rear view mirror and wanted to have a tint strip installed to cut some heat and glare from the sun. Is it OK to have the tint over the dots or not? I have seen some priuses around and they just tinted the non dotted part of the windshield between the sides and the dotted center area.

View 19 RepliesI recently bought a used 2010 Prius and I've noticed that the Windshield wiper position on the passenger side stops below the windshield. This causes a slight "thunking" sound when the wipers are going. I'm trying to see if this is something that is relatively easy to fix myself. Judging by the position if I move the passenger side up I'll also have to move the driver side.

View 2 RepliesWhen the sun is fairly low but bright on the horizon and in front of the windshield there are thousands of tiny specks visible in the windshield that are fairly evenly distributed. They are very small and almost look metallic and appear to be within the safety glass laminate. It is very annoying even when using the sun visor and restricts visibility noticeably.
We have the same thing with our 2006 Prius with approx 80,000 miles and our 2010 Prius has about 30,000 miles. At first I thought it might be some pitting on the surface of the windshield due to road or dust debris but the glass appears to be perfectly smooth. No matter how well I clean the windshield these small specks still appear. I have researched this a bit and have seen quite a few reports from others with this phenomenon especially with GM and BMW vehicles even with new vehicles or new windshields. The most likely thing I have found so far is that it is caused by a metal flake put between the glass lamination to reduce glare.
My 5 month old 2011 Prius Two ran out of windshield wiper fluid yesterday. This was somewhat surprising, since I haven't used the cleaner that much - and I would assume that the dealer filled it up when I bought the car. So I added some more (even used the "windshield wiper dipstick" to make sure that I didn't overfill). I also used a funnel, so no fluid spilled anywhere. I then turned the car on, and made sure that the front and rear wiper/cleaners worked - everything was fine.
But when I got out of the car, I noticed a small amount of liquid on the ground, near the front passenger wheel. I saw small amounts of liquid dripping off the car. So I called my dealer, said I thought the plastic wiper cleaner container had a leak, and they said bring the car in. When I got to the dealer, the attendant said: "Is it the front right of the car?" (i.e. where the liquid was coming out, I hadn't even mentioned where I had seen the leak). I said yes.
He then asked me to run my front wipers with the cleaner coming out for about 15 seconds (longer than one would usually do that). I then got out the car, and he showed me lots of liquid that "appeared" to be leaking out the container; however, the attendant said that was just runoff of the excess cleaner. He said if there is extra cleaner it gets diverted mostly to the front right, and a little to the front left. He said he had a 2010 Pruis, and it does the same thing. He said if you're driving on the highway, you'd obviously never noticed it. So you only see it when you use the wiper/cleaners when parked (not usually the case). I mentioned that I had never noticed this in my previous cars (all Saturns). He said he thought the Saturn might have diverted the fluid more towards the middle underneath. But since the Saturn actually required a key to turn on, I don't recall ever testing the wiper/cleaners, after refilling with more fluid (it's just that it's so easy to turn on a Prius...
We have a fleet of Prius's with 11k miles on them. Windshield wipers don't work and cigarette lighter plugs don't work. I'm guessing this is due to blown fuses. Where the fusebox is? I'm getting fed up with this. Also, is there a diagram somewhere that shows which fuses are for which circuits? (IE Which number fuses protects windshield wiper circuit) so I can finally see in the rain...

View 5 RepliesToday while parking my van infront of a building, with my foot lightly on the brake- my van accelerated uncontrollably and smashed into the building. Luckily I was only 2-3' away from the building- and no one was infront of me. The reving noise and speed at which I hit the building was shocking. I was afraid to drive it, suffered some whip lash and had it towed to a dealer. They have said they can't find anything wrong thru the diagnostic testing. I'm afraid to drive it again-
