I recently purchased a 2010 Prius, model V with the "Advanced Technology Package".
Now just this morning though, after it rained last night, I took off and once I hit the break for the first time, water came pouring down out of the box that houses the little forward facing camera (near the rear view mirror). I was shocked. I'm wondering how that water makes it into the cabin. No sunroof here.
My 2006 Sonata GLS 3.3 started dripping water the other day from the ceiling handle. The drain hoses do not appear to be plugged, water runs freely out. I pulled off the headliner around the place of the leak, and I can kind of see a plastic attachment with the drain hose on the corner of the sunroof frame. The water is coming from somewhere from it, but not from the hose attachment.
My question is, Do I have to replace the sunroof frame? Is it difficult to do? Or can I get away epoxying around the leak if it's small enough? In any case, how hard is it to remove the headliner?
Just took 2005 Avalon XLS to place-they said all the sunroof drains are clear (4 drains in each corner). We have to bring it back. Leaks are located in rear corners on two back post and ceiling around rear window.
I noticed it a couple years ago but just thought it was glue that turned brown with age. Can't believe I didn't do anything then. Plus we park car up hill on our driveway with front pointed high.
OK, I've been reading a lot about this problem occurring in the pre 2010 prius where there is a crack around the hatch that fills the 12V battery well with water. About a month ago, I started getting a whiff of something rotting. A mix of the dead smell and rotting fruit. I was certain one of my kids left some food in the car or something got in the HVAC vent. As time has gone by, the odor has changed to more of a rotting leaves kind of smell.
I got out my shopvac and a snake camera. I went through the HVAC system and found that the filter was pulled back a bit. I replaced it on the spot. I found a few leaves and dust and that was it. The air coming from the vents from the outside smells clean. There were lots of wet leaves in the engine bay, but it wasn't the problem.
I started tearing apart the trunk because sometimes stuff spills into the tire well. I found the spare tire had turned brown on the tread.
I opened the battery compartment and found about an inch of standing milky white water. The kicker here is that the water didn't seem to smell that bad! I dried it all up and bleached the metal to kill any mold that might be in the residue...but the odor remains. The car smells awful!
I have torn apart the back of the car but I cannot find the source of the leak. I actually think it was from the car wash or going through a puddle and water got in the rear vent. The battery fender vent vanes were flapping with gusts of wind today, but even after a heavy rainstorm no new water has gotten in.
The car was hit in the parking lot and the rear fender moved about an 1/8th of an inch from the bumper, but there are no obvious signs of water entry anywhere... in fact, I was even suspicious that it might have come from the battery itself, but I didn't touch it (used paper towels on a snake to dry it up under there). I didn't think to try baking soda to see if it was an acid, which makes bleach pretty stupid to use...but I didn't see any foaming.
TL;DR Found water in my 12V battery compartment. My car smells bad. Cleaning out water did not improve smell. Nothing in HVAC system, it is only clean air source in car. No signs of water ingress above 12v battery well. After rainstorm, no additional water found in battery well. Fender vent flaps in gusty wind, but still no new water.
My little display that is on the ceiling of my 04 diesel excursion has stopped coming on. If i tap on it it will come back on for a bit the turn off again.
View 14 RepliesHear a thump when slowing down or coming to complete stop? Thump doesn't happen every time but sounds louder sometimes and doesn't always seem to be in the same area of the ceiling.
View 2 RepliesThis is weird, I just replaced my ICE water pump 2 months ago and now upon inspection, I notice there is pink seepage coming out of the pump again. Although it's a very very slight amount, but being the fluid is pink, I can see the stuff coming out again.

View 14 Replies No one is taking the responsibility for the water in my transmission. I brought it to sunrise toyota because the car was making a noise - new tires were put on before they even diagnosed my car, told me to take it home it can not be fixed it has water damage from the storm.. I was not in Storm Sandy but they insisted I was. Took it to another shop and it was agreed that yes there is water damage but no one knows how it got there.
Insurance don't want to hear about it, neither does Toyota motors. They insist my insurance cover it and i am told it should be under warrantee. Who stands behind the consumer??? My car is 2 yrs old and brought it in for a noise and then told to take it out of the shop because they don't want to deal with it.
My car is freaken useless now with new 600 plus tires and Its not drivable..and worse now because all the lights are going on saying there's a problem with ABS and slippery roads and the brakes go to the floor.
In service manual doesn't show the limit time to change the water pump of inverter unit. What is the limit time or limit mileage for change it?
Example, engine's water pump has the limit around 200,000 Km(125,000Mile). But why inverter water pump no limit using time?
Had the Check Hybrid System and master warning light come on today. Took it to the dealer, who, after a couple hours, told me that my "Hybrid Water Pump" needed to be replaced.

View 3 RepliesI have something really strange that has happened to me... two days ago I noticed a small puddle of water in the back off my Prius on the floor behind the passenger seat. There is absolutely no water anyway else..I've thoroughly searched. I dried it up as much as I can but it seems to continue to get wet - not to the extent it was the first time I saw it, but when I press down with my hand I can hear water in the carpet. I've used a wet vac to suck up as much as I can... but I come back and it is still wet again.... What could be leaking... again.. absolutely nothing else is wet.. and nothing could have spilled that would have produced that much water.
View 7 RepliesWhen I turned the AC on, I get water leak inside. The water dripped from inside of the center console where shifter sits right above.
The water sift into the driver carpet area and front passenger area. If I don't take up the mat, the inside smell like mildew.
I took the car to the dealer and they said the drainer is clogged by the leaves and the water from the AC gets back up into the cabin.
My toddler spilled an open bottle of water from her rear facing car seat on the passenger side of my brand new Prius III. From what I can make out, her car seat and the sides of the passenger seat took most of the damage. But there were a few drops of water on the spokes of the battery vent. I cleaned it up and tried peering inside the vent to see if water got in but I couldn't tell much as it was dark out. We had to drive it back home as we were 20 miles away. What should my next steps be? Should I take it to the dealer in the morning to have the battery checked out? Can I remove the vent cover and wet vac it?? What signs should I look for? Am I looking at having to replace the battery!

After a heavy rain, sometimes but not always, water will drip from the front driver pillar and more recently from the roof immediately adjacent to the sunglasses holder. This happens usually after a turn or acceleration/ deceleration, i.e. when water trapped in the roof somewhere gets to slosh around. View 4 RepliesFor the last couple of days I have noticed that I have water dripping from the engine area of my after I park or stop. The dripping appears to stop after some duration (usually don't wait to how long it persists) but I don't recall seeing this the earlier in my ownership (first 12 months of owning 2010 Prius). It clearly appears to be water as it has no color or scent and when it dries, it leaves nothing behind. The only change that comes to mind is that I have been using the front defroster which I did not use before. It is not due to using the air conditioning, as I don't use it during the AC during the winter months at all.
View 4 RepliesH2 weeks ago I bought a new Prius II and after giving my car a new wash this weekend I noticed small water marks on the bottom hatchback window. After trying to wipe them off with a microfiber cloth, they were still there. Then I tried Windex but they didn't go away. The only way I could get the water stains out was to scratch them off with my finger nail.
None of my other windows has this problem.
I bought a new 2015 Prius last week. Today, after I was cleaning only the tire/wheels cavity area by hosing it down with water. I heard a water splashing or sloshing sound when i was parking the car back in the garage when the car is moving. My theory is that the water still remains in some cavity in the car. So I will see if the noise is still there tomorrow when I go to work.
View 18 RepliesNoticed a water sloshing sound coming from under the dash on initial start up when the ice engine comes on? I found a few things from searching, but nothing really conclusive. I didn't think much of it at first. Like maybe water was just coming up into the heater core or something. It doesn't do it all the time, but often enough that I'm starting to wonder if I should get it checked out.
View 15 Repliesi have a 2011 prius II, and i noticed that rain water is leaking into the engine compartment. after i look at the hood design and how it closes, it was very obvious to me that water will leak into the engine compartment by design. i found this prius V picture online (i think it is very similar if not identical to my prius II). the blue pointers indicate holes and gaps where water can leak in, and the read circle indicates where water end up.
i have owned 2 other cars before this one, and i have never had rain water leak into engine compartment. do i have to worry about this?
