Prius (2010-12) :: Vibration At About 70 - 75 Mph
Mar 10, 2015
I have a 2010 Prius with 100,000 miles. It has a vibration that starts at about 70-75 mph and gets much worse at higher speeds. The tires appear good with no unusual wear.

2010 Prius III. Purchased at 75,000 miles now at 135,000 miles.
At all different speeds I'm getting a vibration. It used to be much more slight. But in the the past few months it has gotten progressively worse. I have read many other threads about it happening at near idle speeds but haven't found any previous topics concerning my dilemma.
But it happens when I'm trying to accelerate. Not hard acceleration but rather moderate or less. If I take my foot off the accelerator and reapply it it stops. I don't know what to think considering how different the problem is compared to descriptions of the mr2 acting funny.

i have a 2010 with 182k miles. The vehicle will jerk like the drive is engaging and disengaging several times (repeatively) when going down hill. It doesn't matter how fast, but I notice it does depend on the ECO indicator. The ECO gage always indicates above the mid mark but ranges between no more than quarter to an inch and quarter above. If I speed up it stops and if I slow down below the mid line it will stop.

My 2010 Prius has starting to shudder and vibrate a bit on occasion when starting to accelerate as in stop and go traffic. It seems to happen mainly when the electric charge is low and the engine is on charging the battery and then I start to accelerate at the same time. It goes away once the speed in over 10mph. It happens occasionally, not every time. Never used to do this. Car has about 160k miles. Could it be a problem with the transmission device?

I've bought a used Prius 2010 V this winter and didn't use AC until summer. Now that it's summer I have noticed that AC compressor is pretty loud (esp. when turned on for a few seconds) - loud enough that it can be heard even when engine is running but faintly. Some vibration from compressor also can be felt when not moving (parked) and touching brake pedal. Noise is about as loud as mobile phone left on vibrate on a wooden desk, but higher pitch and a bit muffled, or as loud as a climate control fan on max setting. Would that be normal?

I rotated my wheels after approx. 20,000 miles. I should have done it sooner. I noticed the tread pattern was considerable different when rotated. It has been about 6,000 miles since the rotation but I get high vibration noise when I'm around 30-40 mph is when it is most noticeable.
I'm assuming this is probably exacerbated even more due to the harder rubber tires for the Prius.

My 2010 Prius engine shakes/vibrates when the engine is showing between 50-75 MPG on the gauge/meter on the dashboard. There is no vibration when coasting (100 MPG on the gauge/meter on dashboard) or when I am accelerating pretty modestly. Only when accelerating very softly. It started a month or so after I had my spark plugs replaced at 133K miles last June 2015. It has gotten progressively worse. It is especially noticeable once the engine is warm or the outside temperature is warm. During the winter months the vibration was there slightly, but not nearly as noticeable as it is becoming now that warmer weather is here.

I just purchased a 2010 Prius III with 47,000 miles on. I love the car except for one thing. it has a vibration I can feel in the steering wheel and seat at around 68-69mph. The dealer says it is normal. I did test drive another 2010 Prius and it did seem to have the same vibration.

Just bought a 2010 Prius V and am noticing a ton of road vibration in my left foot transmitted through the floor. Is this normal? Poor dampening?

I have a 2010 Prius. Lately it has been in the 80s and 90s here. After my car has been sitting for awhile in the heat (usually during the work day), there is a strong vibration when using brakes. The vibration occurs after I have come to a complete stop, and lasts for 2-3 seconds. After 10-15 minutes, the issue stops. On cooler days I haven't noticed an issue.

My 2010 IV has some kind of rattle/vibration in the upper glovebox. You can only hear it when taking off from a stop or accelerating at low speed.

I am still getting used to my new Prius, just have a little over 700 miles on it. I recently noticed something very strange with the car - if I am in "Ready" with ICE off, and I put it in drive and release the brakes, but do not press the accelerator, the car will slowly move forward, just like a regular auto transmission. After about 1 second the speed will reach about 2 mph and I can feel a very small rumble in the cabin and a very light vibration on the steering wheel. It sounds like a very low frequency bass, and it lasts for less than a second.
It goes away and the car continues to accelerate up to about 5mph (the accelerator is still not pressed). This sound is almost unnoticeable, and it does not happen if I release the brake and immediately press the accelerator, it only happens while creeping forward very slowly. I was able to make this sound/vibration last longer by "riding" the breaks and keeping the speed around 1-2 mph, it is very faint and I have really listen to it. To me I believe it is caused by some resonance/harmonics in MG2 turning at extremely low RPM, at least it "feels" somewhat "electric"...

Last week , I changed the front wheels brake pads and had the mechanic rotating the wheels ( putting the front back and vise versa ). Ever since I had this oscillating noise and vibration when driving at 30-40 km/ hour (20-25 mph) when I speed up the noise change into a high roar without vibration . My prius is V gen 3 model 2010.

I have a 2011 Prius. I put 15" aftermarket summer wheels on it and a vibration appeared The wheels and tires have been rebalanced many times. Wheel alignment has been done, wheels replaced, tires replaced but the vibration is still there. I am now back to the OEM and the vibration is still there.

I have recently noticed a vibration that occurs at VERY low speed - such as below 0mph and 1mph, while just starting (or stopping).
The best way to describe this vibration is that it feels somewhat similar to going over a rumble-strip - but not quite so intense.
It only happens for a very short time while just starting off (or coming to a stop) - and then goes away. You almost have to try to make it happen. If I try to carefully control the increase of the car's speed, I can -sort of- extend the amount of time that this happens.
I certainly have to be on the 'look out' to notice this and attempt to make it happen to really identify it. Otherwise, (if I accelerate too quickly i.e.: normally) it just feels like a couple of bumps in the road.
I think I read on here somewhere something about a breakdown of the winding insulation that provides such an effect? Is there any straightforward way (perhaps with a scan gauge or other tool) to conclusively diagnose this?

I have a 2010 gen III with the upgraded audio system and I am getting a vibration coming from the right door speaker when there is a heavy base sound. The dealer replaced the speaker and the vibration is still there, this makes me think it is not the speaker but a part in the door panel that is vibrating. How difficult is the door panel to remove in order to determine where the problem may be?

For three days, my 2013 Prius has suddenly started to vibrate after coming to a complete stop. I feel the vibration in floor boards mostly and a little on the brake pedal. Oddly, I only feel the vibration on my way home from work ( summer heat maybe??).

Its been really really hot lately here in SoCal and i noticed something weird. When my car is running with the AC ON I notice this vibration/buzzing from the car. I feel it on the brake and accelerator pedals too. It doesn't happen all the time but its pretty often. I can feel it more when im stopped at a red light. Is this normal?

My 2010 Prius with 140000km has developed a vibration noticeable anywhere from 50-80 km/hr when in slight acceleration (just over 1/2 on the green bars) with the ICE running. Dropping the throttle or hard acceleration makes it disappear completely - which tells me it's driveline related. It feels like its coming from the passenger side, particularly rear, but it's definitely getting worse and I can now feel it in the driver's door panel so it's becoming a major concern.
My first thought (due to the location) was a bad muffler but it's not any louder. I'm starting to worry it may be a transaxle bearing. I can't see it being a cv joint as there's no noises when cornering and everything underneath looked OK at a recent oil change. I love this car (what Prius owner doesn't?) and I sure can't afford to replace it. It's been babied since day one.

When I had this set of tires rotated and balanced for the first time I picked up a vibration. I can feel it through the steering wheel and the floor, it starts about 40 or 45 mph. It is not severe but it is annoying. The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus size 215/45-17, they had about 9K miles on them when I had them rotated. Before they were rotated they were as smooth as glass.
