My 2013 goes 7mph with the foot off the gas. Why is it doing this and is there any way to correct this?
Is this normal? I have to keep my foot jammed on the brake to stop the car from lurching forward.
I've been told by my dealer that the 6-speed transmission in our rigs is known to shift roughly. They have therefore pronounced my truck healthy. However, I don't think I believe it. I've never seen a vehicle that lurched forward on upshifts under moderate acceleration. It behaves if I punch it. It behaves if I accelerate like my granny. Anything in between and I get a fairly violent jump at each shift point. At times, in stop-and-go traffice, I have thought the truck would jump into the car ahead of me. This behavior seems to be unrelated to which transmission mode I'm in. D, S, and Tip all do it. I love the motor in this thing, but I'm starting to hate the tranny. What should I tell the dealer to look for on the truck that might be causing this? The truck is going in next week to replace a fog light with condensation, so I'm hoping to get them to look at it then.
View 1 RepliesThis is an issue when I brake over a small bump or pothole. It lurches forward and I feel like I have lost control of the brakes and we are about to crash into the car in front of me. Seems like this is an issue with other Prius years but I thought this was fixed with the v.

I thought this should be very concerned to us, since we all drive 11' sonata & up. I heard Hyundai installs some kinds of system to prevent this incident to all cars manufactured after May of 2012.
I've read quite a few instances in this forum of unintended acceleration in the Toyota Sienna. Well it happened to me this morning. I was pulling into my parking spot at work with my foot lightly on the brake, going about 5 or 10 mph when the vehicle suddenly accelerated as if someone had floored the accelerator. The vehicle went up over the curb and into the side of the building. When I told the policeman what had happened, he said that isn't possible. I told him it was possible because it just happened to me. I had it towed to the dealership, called my insurance company and Toyota to make a report of the incident. They will be sending someone out to check out the car, but I'm sure they won't say there is anything wrong with it. I'm sure it won't be impartial since they don't want to be held liable. I also made a complaint with the NHTSA. I am afraid to drive the car and will never buy a Toyota again.
View 2 RepliesMy 2005 4.2L w/ 139,000mi , giving the above warning. Thinking it was a gremlin, I raised the vehicle height and all seemed well until I got onto the 101 fwy here in SoCal and hit the threshold speed to lower the height.
That's when the engine rev'd to 7k RPM's. Initially it quieted in neutral and I drifted to the shoulder with one shift back into D and 7k RPMs for a bit of power. After that, any start and it revs immediately to 7K upon start.
Flat bedded to Santa Monica VW and await Ivan, their Phaeton mechanic to return tomorrow. Service writer Jeff wondered about front suspension but connection to acceleration is a mystery.
I have a scary problem with my 2005 Civic Coupe HX CVT that the dealer can't resolve - my car drives forward and even accelerates when my foot's not on the gas! This is a recipe for disaster, especially since I live in a cold climate and there's so much ice and snow in winter.
I thought at first I must be crazy. So I've tested it by taking my foot off the gas going up a small incline, and Voila! It drives up the hill! It also can drive around the block by itself! It's like the energizer bunny, and I'm scared to drive it anymore.
The dealer has no clue why this is happening and can't seem to replicate the problem. I've brought it in more than once, too.
It happens most often when my car's been parked for awhile, say 6 hours or more, and if it's really cold outside, say less than 32 degrees outside. Also the heater's usually on when it happens, but that may be incidental since it's usually cold when the problem occurs...
Also, There's a whine that sounds like a belt that gets loud when the air conditioner runs and also if it's really rainy. I've taken it in to the dealer a couple different times and they fix it, but then the sound comes back again. Could this be related?
I have a 2007 Passat 2.0T wagon. I got gas this am, and on my 30 minute drive to work all was fine until I got into traffic or came to a stop sign. While at the stop sign the car started to lurch forward or even seemed to be up and down. The idle was fine, completely constant. It was like the car was hopping or wanting to push forward. It did not happen in reverse or neutral and the car was fine while driving. What this could be?
View 4 RepliesMy husband and I bought a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria not too long ago. We have already had to replace the brake lines 2 times (well, first the front and then a few weeks later the back). It has had nothing but problems. One thing is the air conditioner, but that probably just needs charged.
Now on to the bigger problems. All of a sudden we started having unintended acceleration. It is strong enough that if you don't have the brake pressed hard it will move your car forward every 5 seconds. The engine revs up on its own. This happens every time we stop anywhere. Including when I was pulling into a parking spot last night. I went very slow and as I was turning pressing on the brake it revved up and I thought for sure the way it jerked, it was going to go over the curb into the road. This scares the crap out of me.
Also, we have a problem with the slow (very slow) start. I know they had a recall on the cruise control, but I have not heard of any recalls on this. However, I did read somewhere about accidents happening due to this and something about it had to do with the way Ford build the car.
I took my 2011 Lariat in for first service and reported that it sometimes tries to accelerate on its own during slowdown from high speed, eg when coming off a freeway ramp, rpms go up and vehicle wants to speed up rather than slow down. (sounds like something a Toyota would do!)
Dealer says its a known problem with 5.0L and performed a supposed fix per "TSB 11-8-9, 5.0L ENGINE BRAKING PERFORMANCE DURING LOW SPEED COAST DOWN," essentially a PCM reflash.
Happened once in a parking lot...thought the floormat was stuck on the accelerator but the pedal was clear.
2002 Santa Fe has been misfiring for about a month...yesterday it got worse...When it's running hot and stopped at intersection it lurches forward.. It stalled when backing up after being parked. Mechanic did diagnostic test and it showed zero...He changed 2 wires to spark plugs..Spark plugs have only 20,000 miles and SUV has 68,000 miles.

Today when I am driving to work and right as I get on the freeway my car starts lurching forward and slowing down repeatedly so I pull over turn the car off look under the hood everything looks normal to me. I wait a bit start the car up and the lights on my panel go from the dimmest they can be to blinding bright and I could not adjust the brightness at all. Any way the car drove fine the rest of the way but the lights were bright as can be the whole way there. What could be causing this? Bad battery?
View 5 RepliesI own a 05' MCV36R and have noticed a strange acceleration issue in the past few months. In low gears the car seems to be lurching back and forth. The RPMs are consistent with this jumping up and down. The car doesn't have any issues when travelling at faster speeds, but perhaps i'm just unable to tell.
I first noticed the problem when travelling at about 60 kmph along the straight bit of road outside my house. At this constant speed the car seemed to lurch forward and backwards slightly. I also notice it when turning corners at low speeds, for example in car parks.
I did a test yesterday when first taking off. I travelled at 20kmph for a reasonable distance and found a speed/ rpm combination that magnified the issue.
I spoke to a mechanic and he said that the throttle body may need cleaning out. I have since done this and it hasn't resolved the issue.
I have a 2010 santa fe with 19k miles.....twice this week i was driving and suddenly the gas pedal stopped working and engine light came on. brakes worked. Have "Sudden Unintended Deceleration"??
After the first event, i had it towed to the dealer (following protocol in the manual). they reported a new recall (it had been serviced a few months ago), executed a computer update and all was fixed (or so i thought).
4 days later, with less than 100 miles driven since the repair, it happened again. this time i was in 35mph traffic so when the accelerator pedal no longer worked, i almost was rear-ended. i was able to coast out of traffic (brakes and steering fine)to a side street. i was able to coast home (.5 mile or so). car would accelerate after stop signs, although the gas pedal doesn't respond at all. very scary that it even shifted to a higher gear and would go 30mph and keep accelerating if i didn't brake!
I have a 2012 Prius with 15000 miles on it. In the year I have had it, I have had this problem a few times. On rare occasions while I am braking the car seems to lurch forward. In particular I have noticed it while braking and hitting a bump. The problem is that when this happens the car seems to jump forward while the brakes are being applied. My foot is on the brake when it happens, but I am not braking suddenly. That rules out any anti-lock braking. I have had the dealer look at it but since it didn't happen on their test drive they couldn't figure anything out. They did open a case on it in case anything comes up.
View 9 RepliesI have a Gen III Prius 2010 with about 50k on it. I've noticed over the past month that when the ICE shuts down at a stoplight, the car will surge forward a bit. If my foot isn't on the brake really hard, it will translate to the car actually moving forward until the ICE is totally off. If my foot is on the brake hard, you can feel it push against the brakes, and then the car settles back in place. It doesn't happen every time, so it still takes me by surprise.
View 3 RepliesTwice today with cooling temps (45 during the day, closer to 30s on way home) while shutting down after being put in park my Prius did the "lurch forward and shudder." This is something new! Fuel has been purchased consistently from the same Shell station, she's garaged at night and MPGs are averaging 45... OK but nowhere near my great warm weather mileage. We are at close to 2200 on the odometer if my memory is working right - 2012 4 version. Happened once at the bank after work, once in the garage, level ground.
Not sure what is going on... this is new to me with a new car....
Ok, I get that a regular car with an automatic transmission will creep forward unless you keep your foot on the brake. Why does that happen in our cars when they are in EV mode at a stop? Unless the pedal is pressed to send power to the electric propulsion system why shouldn't it just sit there absent influence from gravity?

View 8 RepliesI have been noticing a squeaking sound lately, what it might be. I notice it most when parked in the garage and I am getting out of the car (obviously with the car in Park). It seems to happen when the car rolls slightly, forward and back against. I tried to take a video to capture the sound. The car was parked and shut off, and I was pushing the car forward and back to recreate the sound. The sound SEEMS to come from the front (maybe the right front), but it is not easy to tell.
View 9 RepliesSince I purchased my 2010 Prius about a week ago the center console top never slid completely forward. It slides to about where the cup holder insert is and stops. I've taken the cup holder out and it still stops in the same spot.
