Prius (2010-12) :: Turning Up Navigation Sound?
Dec 18, 2010
There must be a way to "turn her off" but I have not found it in the book. When I want to "cancel" the directions being given, what's the secret?

View 2 RepliesWhen slowing to a stop and turning to the right, there is a ticking sound (not loud) coming from the front. The ticking rate slows as the wheel slows and continues until almost stopped. Break pedal pressure does not affect the sound. The dealer tech heard the sound on a demo drive but they had no clue what it was and found nothing wrong.
The tech, sitting in the right seat thought the sound was coming from the left side. I hear it coming from the right side. Maybe that means it comes from the middle? I only hear it when coming to a stop. Maybe road noise covers it up at higher speed but I don't know.
Currently at about 38,000 miles.
The car has been parked for a few months and i get into it and the navi reads unable to read disk? So I eject it and its perfectly clean. I give it a wipe down just for good measure and slap it back in. after a few minutes and some hesitations it works fine.. Then it happens again like 20 miles away, just goes black and says unable to read disk then comes back on again by itself.. Would a newer updated disk work? I have 90k on it and this is the first time I've ever removed the nav disk, could the lens be dirty..
View 4 RepliesI have a 2010 prius with the navigation package in the last month the compass goes berserk and the the navigation gets completely lost. I have done the recalibration and it may work for an hour or a day then just start wondering.
The xm radio works fine and when I get into the system check page by pressing info while turning the light switch from off to side lights four times all the systems say they are OK and the gyro voltage and direction looks good. This problem is with the original map cd and the versionb11.1 cd.
I have a 2010 Gen III Prius with Nav (GPS).
View 3 RepliesI have the IV, with navigation. My most recent sound is from the cd player. If you open up the navigation (like your going to load a cd) it's even louder. It sounds like like a computer hard drive searching and writing data, and goes on for about 10 minutes (or longer, my patience doesn't last too long). Maybe the navigation system is uploading a database or something. No CD's vs. loading a cd do not make a difference, and the audio system is off. Weird. Only way to hear it is on a quiet night, in EV mode. Reminds me of when I used to reformat a hard drive on my old computer. I'll continue to listen for it when I pull up to a stoplight.

View 3 RepliesGot a 2010 Prius with navigation couple days ago. No problems so far except, in mornings, on cold start head unit acts strange. If I press map or destination button on the right side of it, it skips music tracks that are being played or changes the radio station. It glitches like that for about 15 minutes, than comes back to normal. turning the car on and off doesn't work at all. The unit had been replaced once under warranty by toyota dealer.

I started my Prius and the Navigation Display open on it's own without me touching any buttons as though it wanted me to load a CD. Now it is stuck in the open position and the CD player is making noises like a CD is stuck but do not have a CD in the player.
I have hit every button to try to get it to close, no luck. It is stuck on the FM station I was listening to and will change stations or to AM, CD, SAT. I turned the car on and off several times just stuck open.
In June my Grandfather picked up a used 2010 Prius (not exactly sure what trim package it is? I think it's IV? It has heated front seats, voice activation, bluetooth, navigation, XM radio, NO sunroof though)
He honestly doesn't like the car that much, I don't think he knew about the "PWR" button that would make the gas pedal behave more like a standard throttle, but he is away on a trip right now so I am borrowing the car. I love it, and I'm going to show him the "PWR" mode when he gets back and see if that changes his opinion of the car.
ANYWAY I noticed when driving it that pressing the MAP button doesn't actually make the map display and instead changes the radio station? I did some searching and found that this may actually be a known flaw although from my searching it doesn't look like Toyota has addressed this?
I'm guessing the car is probably out of the original manufacturers warranty? Not sure if there might have been some sort of warranty from when he purchased the car pre-owned? I definitely plan to talk to him about this when he gets back because it is very annoying to not be able to switch back to the map easily. The only ways I have figured out to work around this is use the voice activation and say "show map" or to press the "DEST" button, choose a destination, and then delete that destination and then it shows the map.
I have 2010 prius III with JBL E7022 navigation. I dont know why i cant get the IPA system when i put the shift to "R" and the Auto Parking Assist pre support selection button right side the steering wheel is blank.
View 6 RepliesMy 2011 elantra started making a sound when I turn all the way to the right and slightly again once you release the wheel. It pretty much sounds like a rusty coil being stretched to it's limit. It happens while driving and turning right as well as when the car is not in motion and turning the wheel all the way to the right. Not sure what it could be.
View 21 RepliesI have a 2013 Elantra, owned since new... I recently started hearing a knocking sound coming from both front wheels while turning in reverse. I have yet to take my car in to have it looked at, if I can do it myself I will but I'm not sure where to start.
View 3 RepliesI own a 2010 ford f150 that make a grumbling sound when i turn. the dealeship has replaced the clutches for the limited slip rear end 2 times now and it is happening again. they told me that the ford engineers are working on the problem but they do not have a fix for it yet. So they told me to just drive it with the positive traction engaged until they get a fix for it. Not exactly the answer I was looking for.

Recently, our Mazda has started making a subdued grinding sound. It happens only when accelerating from idling to 10 miles per hour. It does not occur over 10 mph, in neutral, or park. It doesn't happen when starting the car or in reverse either. according to my wife, it does happens when turning right at slow speeds, but not left.
We have just driven it to our mechanic but it may take a couple days before they are able to look at it.
I recently picked up a cpo rx 350 and my steering wheel makes a squishy rubber-rubber friction kinda noise when I turn - especially when I am reversing. Is it common and does it go away?
View 14 RepliesEarly this week my car started making a loud knocking/rubbing sound (Kind of in between when your brakes are ground down to the rotor and a knocking pattern).
FIRST, it started only when I turned slightly left or left.... NOW, it's doing it as I go straight and when I turn to the right as well... oddly enough it's not as bad when going left anymore...
What this could be?? And if it's an easy DIY fix..... (maybe a link on how) and how much the part(s) might be?? I've taken video (for sound as I drive)...but not sure if I can upload it (size limit).
I have a clicking sound coming from the front right wheel, happens while driving straight or turning. My guy checked the cv boots, axle bolt, various other connections that seem fine. Then he takes a phrase out of Satan's handbook and says "take it to the dealer". I saw the horns on his head and the red eyes while he was saying it. So I made apt for next week. I don't think it's anything serious , Orr maybe it's something to do with the rotor, caliper, break pads ? Everything else seems tight.
View 3 RepliesHow you turn up the volume on the navigation system? Unlike my wife the ladies voice telling me where to turn is hard to hear.
View 3 RepliesI'm aware that when I turn my 2007 Prius off, it is normal to make sounds from the engine compartment.
View 1 RepliesOddly enough, I only get this when the car is slowing to the last few mph, say 8 and lower & while turning to the right. Straight or left it doesn't do this.
I have looked under and around the tire/wheel to see if there is a stick or something but there isn't anything that I see.
It sounds like the playing card in the spokes of a bicycle. The click slows as the car does, so I swear it is something that is coming in contact with the wheel.
