Prius (2010-12) :: Turning Off The Multi-information Display?
Nov 16, 2010
It distracts me too much and I can't seem to get better than 45 mpg no matter how I drive (regular mode mostly highway). Any way to turn it off permanently?

View 11 RepliesI have very recently purchased a 2011 GX. Everything seems to be in working order, aside from the "multi-information display" in the gauge cluster. While the electronics options screen functions as described in the manual, pressing the menu button results in a blank screen instead of switching to the customization and/or driver information screens.
View 3 RepliesMy wife on her way home from work called me to say that the MID screen was blank - not working. I asked if she could drive the car, she could, but the energy monitor screen that she has on usually was not coming on. Her concern while driving was that she could not tell how fast she was going.
Fortunately, just a week ago I had installed Scangauge II in her car and had her convert one of existing gauge to MPH. This is a new 2012 Prius IV that is about 2 months old. I'm pretty sure that MID can't be turned off.
Every day I stop at my mailbox to get the mail. I get out of the car with the FOB in my pocket and leave the car running. When I close the door the car beeps three times to let me know it's still on. This is exactly how my 2010 Prius operated. However, when I get back in the car the multi-information display always changes from the hybrid system indicator screen to the energy monitor screen. I always have the HSI on as default. This isn't a huge deal but it's kind of annoying. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change that I've missed?

View 4 RepliesRecently, i just bought an multi-information display panel (with touch screen support) to integrate into my RX330 which is a non touch screen NAV display panel.
The 2nd hand multi-information display panel is from a 2004 RX330 and what are the socket behind the display panel meant for.
what is the 4 socket connectors as indicated in the red circle in the image should be connected to?
I had the basic Entune radio but recently upgraded to the Entune Audio Plus with navigation after talking with a tech at the dealership. I unfortunately don't have the audio tab at all, how to add it to my display. No one at the dealership knows how and they referred me to Toyota Corporate about my situation. Any button sequence that can add or delete tabs on the display?
View 9 RepliesI noticed just recently my 15 IS350 F- Sport doesn't have elapsed time in the multi information display. Instead it has 2 different average fuel economy spots under Driver info 1.
I remember seeing it on a 14 IS base, is this something different 15 or F-sport? Is there a setting to get it back?
what does that icon or symbol on the left side the temperature on the the multi information display? I only noticed it yesterday when the temperature was around 2'C.I'm not sure if it is a malfunction since I can not see it on the manual.
View 4 RepliesWhen I have my daytime running lights on, all is fine. When I switch to anything else on the stalk, including my night time head lights, it goes off, along with some temperature control background illumination. Only the shift icon stays on the MID. When I switch back to daytime running lights, everything goes back on.
View 6 RepliesNot the usual. I stopped on my way home to get gas tonight when the gauge was showing one pip. Naturally it wasn't low, but I'm used to that.
The odd thing is that after I got in the car and turned it back on the gauge stayed at one pip and the fuel display on the multi-function display didn't reset.
Little background, I have a 2005 Prius that i've had since 55K that now has 114K on it. I have never had to replace the battery so it could possibly be that but this morning I received the red exclamation and this weird D symbol.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2004 Prius with 108,000 miles on it. The MFD is starting to spaz out and work intermittently. It just started to stop working, would be listening to some music and all the sudden would die, no temp, no climate control, no avg mpg, no miles driven, no battery info, the base screen would be there without any data. So its sometimes there when I start the car and sometimes not, sometimes it dies and others it cames back. I called my local Toyota dealer they suggested I needed to replace the Multi-Function-Display with a refurb. I am wondering if there might even be a way to fix the glitch in my current unit...
View 9 RepliesMy MFD now only shows the Toyota Logo, whatever I do. Also, I cannot play music. The trick with pressing (hold) INFO and headlights three times does not bring up a diagnostic screen. My theory is that the MFD is waiting for some signal over the network before showing the usual screen (and it never gets that signal). Some years ago, I had a third party fit a new audio tuner and player (non-Toyota), and that worked more or less fine for years.
They had to leave the old faulty Toyota audio in the circuit to make it all work, and they said to leave the graphic equaliser on even settings, and then forget it. The old Toyota audio CD changer had failed, but the rest was OK. My 'guess' is that they had to leave the old audio device connected because it terminates the AVC-LAN with a 60 ohm resistor. Maybe that connection came off, and now the LAN signals are not good, and the MFD is locked up 'always waiting' for the signal from an ECU.
We bought our 2011 2 weeks ago today and the hybrid information screen went out. Is this happening alot and are those it is happening to experiencing any other problems? Taking it to the dealers tomorrow.
View 13 RepliesRecently brought a 2015 camry SE and wouldn't you know it, someone pulls out in front of me on the highway within a week of buying it. After getting the car back from the auto body shop, I've noticed that my multi information display has a blank screen. Didn't notice that before the accident. The first 3 screens I can set up as I want, the 4th screen is tire pressure and the 5th screen is blank. I've tried to find out what the 5th screen should be but I haven't been able to find an answer.
View 2 RepliesThe wife was driving the 07 XLE 4 cylinder the other morning. Temperature was around 2 F. She started the car. It started right up. Drove for around 5 minutes and shut the car off and went in to a store for 5 minutes. When she came back out and restarted the car an "E" appeared in the XLE's multifunction display and the low tire pressure light was also on. The car would not shift out of Park. The wife called me. I told her to shut it off and try restarting it. Same thing.
I then told her to shut it off and take the key out of the ignition and then try reinserting it and restarting it. That worked; it eliminated both codes and the car was able to be shifted normally out of Park. Since I still have about 10 months coverage left on my Platinum Extended Warranty the wife and I took the car over to the dealer. When I had my wife explain what happened to the dealer's service writer he just said I have never even heard of the "E" symbol. The tech said he never heard of it either. They did check out the car's shift/interlock system including the brake light switch, but could find nothing wrong.
Just picked up a CPO '07 Passat Wagon (Sport Pkg2, 30k on the odo) and recently found the multi-function display between the tach and speedo has a malfunction. It sort of behaves like a melting screen saver where all the pixels in the display shift vertically and warp, or it blanks out all together and throws up a vertical stripe about 5 pixels wide. All the steering wheel controls work fine and index through the functions as expected. It has done this pretty much every time I drive the car since I picked it up.
The car obviously has plenty of warranty left so I have a service appointment at the dealer next week, but just curious if this is a common issue- a forum and google search yielded nothing. I've had a couple A4's in the past that had trip computer displays that acted up in hot weather, but not like this. Also, my in-laws have a MkV GTI with the same/similar trip computer and it hasn't ever done this.
Aside from spending $ to have the polarity reversed on the HVAC display, is there anything be done to darken the display letters and numerals? In the daylight this thing is unreadable. Very poor design by Toyota. Any little tricks that I don't know about?
View 4 RepliesWhat it means when you turn the temperature way down, it'll eventually display LOW? What does it do?
View 6 RepliesMy Display goes black when turning the headlights on. Works fine with the lights off. (2008)
