When the front defroster is on, a little orange LED is lit on the defroster button.
When I press the Off button for the AC system, the orange LED stays lit on the front defroster button.
Is this normal?
I've got a problem that has the dealer stumped. 2010 Prius TWO with 67,000 miles. While gently braking in the final stages (<10mph) and turning, a ticking can be heard from the left front brake. It is a very fast ticking, and is proportional to speed. The frequency of the ticking is very fast, think of holding a pin into the cooling fins of the brake rotor.
I had it at the dealer last week. They had it for 2 days, with the service advisor, manager, and director all driving it and listening. They ended up replacing the wheel bearing. No luck unfortunately. They've had the entire brake assembly on the floor and reassembled, no change. Tightened all suspense links, no change.
The circumstances are:
- mild braking
-anything more than just a slight turn (maybe only to the right?)
-slower speeds (<10mph)
Got our 2012 package 5 lesss than a month ago, so we haven't had much opportunity to use the rear defroster. The two times I have used it I noticed that it works well on the upper rear window, but the glass below the rear spoiler doesn't seem to be clearing. The red/orange "wires" are visible in the glass, but don't appear to do anything. Wasn't planning to head back to the dealer until first service since we haven't had any other problems, but this could be annoying with the winter weather.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2010 Prius III and was pleasantly surprised to find out that the side mirrors defrosted when the rear defroster was turned on. I looked in the owners manual and it said if equipped. Which Prius models do not have these defrosters, the package II? My mirrors do not have the little defroster icon, but I'm almost positive it must have them.
View 6 RepliesDuring this week, most ppl at NA are experienced extremely cold weather, what I found is, the Prius can't do a great job to keep the front windshield clean under that kind of condition.
What I tried, front deforest bottom, or fan to front windshield and leg, both works fine for the middle area but not the top left side which is about 1/4 area of the windshield. It doesn't happen on my sienna. Usually I drive 5-10mins and the windshield are clean. What I guess is maybe the fan tunnel goes too straight to the windshield instead of blow to the rear area or maybe the outlet isn't wide enough to cover the side.
I got my first Toyota couple months ago, Camry xle i4 38k. Everything is fine except for the not-so-smooth tranny, but I get used to it. The thing annoys me is the moldy smell from the vents. I usually turn on fan (A/C off, inner circulation on), when notice the smell, I changed the cabin air filter (the old one has tons of dirt!!). the smell goes away, but whenever I put on defroster, it comes back.
View 11 RepliesMy click sound is inconsistent, but typically, it's when I make a hard right or left turn. This being said, there are times I've was making a slow turn and my car still made the click noise. The turn can be a small one while in the lane for the off ramp of the freeway or a sharper turn around the corner. My impression is that when there is more force towards one side of the car, my steering wheel shaft is clicking. I also notice there's a click sound when I turn into a dip like when I drive out of a driveway onto a street that's lower than the driveway. The sound is also typically paired with moderate braking and turning. Someone who was in the car and heard the click and mentioned that it might happen when I make a sudden turn.
The single click is coming from the exterior of my car (I can hear it clearly when my windows are down) and around the engine area. I don't physically feel anything when I hear the click but I'm afraid that something may become an issue in the future. The click is also slowly driving me insane!!!
I've already gone back to my dealership and I bought this car brand new. It started happening almost immediately after I bought the car. When I took it in, they said they tightened a bolt (didn't specify which).
I've asked so many individuals and they can't think of anything. It's definitely not a CV issue because the car is brand new and the sound is a single click rather than a continuous knocking.
For the first time today, the passenger front tire resisted being turned. It was hard to turn. What might the problem be?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2010 Mountaineer Premier AWD V8 47k miles. On acceleration there is a hum/vibration in the steering wheel and the gas pedal between 30-50 mph. This is my third Mountaineer and I have never noticed it on the others, I just got this one about 2 months ago. The others were V6 models but were AWD. When I turn the 4x4 to the lock mode there are various noises/vibrations coming from the front of the car while it accelerates and also when turning.
View 1 RepliesI recently bought a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe from a rental company. So far the only problem is that the radio and front defroster sometimes turn themselves on. Just today we were driving and the radio came on. Then later when accelerating it seemed sluggish, and I noticed the front defroster was on. I turned it off, and a few minutes later it came on again. It happened about 5 times while on the same 5 mile trip. Will be taking it to the local dealer/service center after holiday weekend.
View 1 RepliesI'm having with my Ex. When I have the A/C (or heat) on, it seems to only blow out the front windshield defroster. Once in a while it'll blow out where it should, but 99% of the time it only comes out the defrost. This is when I have it on face, face/feet and feet.
View 6 RepliesEarly this week my car started making a loud knocking/rubbing sound (Kind of in between when your brakes are ground down to the rotor and a knocking pattern).
FIRST, it started only when I turned slightly left or left.... NOW, it's doing it as I go straight and when I turn to the right as well... oddly enough it's not as bad when going left anymore...
What this could be?? And if it's an easy DIY fix..... (maybe a link on how) and how much the part(s) might be?? I've taken video (for sound as I drive)...but not sure if I can upload it (size limit).
I have a clicking sound coming from the front right wheel, happens while driving straight or turning. My guy checked the cv boots, axle bolt, various other connections that seem fine. Then he takes a phrase out of Satan's handbook and says "take it to the dealer". I saw the horns on his head and the red eyes while he was saying it. So I made apt for next week. I don't think it's anything serious , Orr maybe it's something to do with the rotor, caliper, break pads ? Everything else seems tight.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2013 Elantra. There is a rubbing type noise in the driver front when braking and turning right. It only rubs(catches) in one spot. Almost like a pulsation, however doesn't pulsate. Hard to describe. Has a new wheel bearing. There are new pads and rotors (two sets of rotors). Took to my Hyundai dealer today. They can't find anything visible. They said only option is to start adjusting/replacing parts as trial and error.
View 3 RepliesMy 2009 Sonata Limited always has the front window defroster come on in cooler temps when the climate control is set to AUTO. This is aggravating since it shouldn't do that. I took it in for service last year at this time and they didn't find anything wrong and I gave up arguing with the dealer about it.
Is there a sensor or something that is out of adjustment? It comes one when the temp is about 40F or lower and you just start the car after it's been sitting cold. I don't notice it so much when I am out on multiple errands.
Another thing that I notice is that I can never just turn the fans on for air circulation when the temps are moderate, not needing A/C or heat. If it turn the fan on, it always seems to blow cold air feeling like the A/C is on, even if it is not in AUTO mode. I complained about the same thing and the dealer said the unit is operating OK.
I have a squeaky front end on my 2005. I have changed the front struts but it still squeaks when turning or when going over a bump.
View 5 RepliesI drive an 06 Prius and it just started making this squeaking sound from the wheels when I steer. When I make turns you can hear the sound both ways when turning the wheel.
I took it to the dealership for the steering recall but they didn't seem to find anything. Is it just something I can lube up to make it go away or is it something more serious?
I have a warm engine (>150 f), the heat turned off, battery at max full, and a 10 mile coast downhill at 30 mph max, but the stupid ICE keeps turning itself on (SG says 5 - 10 hp doing nothing) and wasting gas. The only way I can find to shut the stupid thing off is to come to a full stop, wait a few seconds, the ICE shuts down, then I can coast a while more till it comes back on , repeat etc. That is ridiculous. Maybe a switch that tells the engine the car is stopped? Maybe an ICE override. Must be a way to defeat this. It can't be doing anything useful.
