Prius (2010-12) :: Trim Bump Stops On Front Shocks With Lowered Springs
May 24, 2011
Did everyone trim their bumpstops on the front shocks with lowered springs? If not , any issues with bottoming out?

View 12 RepliesSo I noticed the other day whenever I go over bumps there is a rusty noise from the driver side rear spring/shocks. I don't hear this noise during normal driving just when going over bumps. What it is? I drive it everyday and the car has 53k miles.
View 1 RepliesHad the ex up on a lift today as I plan on swapping out the shocks and noticed that the front bump stops are completely gone.
Could this be contributing to the harsh bumpy jarring ride I have?
I don't quite understand what they do as they just appear to be bolted to the frame and the next piece of metal they can hit seems far away from where they are positioned?
I'm sure that this is not normal, but I just want to know if any one else has this problem with their car. When the windows are down, they are loose in their tracks -- you can actually shift them forward and backward with your fingers. Also, if the windows are lowered when I shut the door, the windows flutter. The right rear window is so loose, that it creaks when I hit a bump even when the window is all the way up. The windows seal up just fine -- no wind noise or leaks of any sort.
In the link below you can see me shifting the windows forward and back. The right front window is least affected, right rear is the worst, and the two left windows seem about the same.
How the black trim on the bottom of the front bumper of a 2011 Elantra GLS is removed . I am talking about the black lip or air dam in the center. Does it just pull off or are there clips or something.
View 1 RepliesI just had some H&R springs installed and my front suspension is making a funny noise.
It sounds like the front springs are clanking around..
I have a motorcycle carrier than plugs into a trailer hitch on my PIP. It drags the rear end. Is there a way to stiffen the rear shocks? Is there any shocks that I can vary the pressure in maybe by air?
View 10 RepliesThe car was purchased used with 18" wheels already on. After driving for about 6 months, I started noticing the road noise getting very loud. I took the car to a tire shop and they told me that there was some uneven cupping in the middle of the wheels, which is usually caused by worn out shocks making the wheel bounce up and down.
I replaced all 4 shocks, then replaced all 4 tires. Now its much more smooth than before, and is very silent on nicely paved roads. however, I notice when there's roads which any imperfections (like fixed streets with tar.. or uneven pavements, or when your tire hits the freeway markers to keep you in the lane) its heard very loud from inside the car and creates an almost *thud* sound when it does.
I assumed that the problem was that the car had 18" wheels. So recently I swapped the wheels out with stock 15" from Toyota, but somehow the road noise is still very apparent. I sat in a friend's Prius, same year, and I could tell that it was handling the uneven pavements much softer.
What could be the problem now? Is there anything else that needs to be replaced?
2011 Lexus RX350

Owned vehicle for 13 months
I've been experiencing this annoying rattle coming from the front end. The rattle is not very loud and every time I drive over a bump, it sounds like I am driving over a Texas gate. I don't feel the rattle, but I hear it. It occurs only when I drive over a bump on the passenger side. No rattle occurs when I drive over a bump on the driver's side.
I have 3 questions:
1. Is it fair to rule out a bad engine mount?
2. Is it reasonable to pinpoint this to possibly a bad strut mount on the passenger side?
3. What are the impacts of driving 1700 miles until having this looked at? I have to go out of town next weekend. I called the Lexus dealership here at home and the earliest they can look at it is two weeks from now.
My wife and I bought a 2014 Elantra with 30,000 miles on it. This is our first Hyundai and the car runs great, but the only issue I have is that whenever I go over a large bump in the road, the front suspension clunks and feels like it's coming apart. Smaller bumps or imperfections in the road are okay and the car runs smoothly over those, but the larger bumps and potholes produce an unreassuring clunk.
We've never owned a Hyundai before and we really like the car, but I was wondering if this is normal for the Elantra and if others experience this. I brought the car to the dealer and they checked everything out. They said all was fine and that it was normal. Is it?
The side trim panel on the passenger side seat was accidentally pulled away in the front. Checked the tabs and clip are intact, is there any special way to push that in? Or just by brute force?
View 1 RepliesCheck your cars to see if you have any failure happening. Parked outside year round. Don't know cause but dealer has ordered parts. Supposedly mine is only the second vehicle to have a similar problem. With sunroof partly open, check for rippling at the bottom of the trims and for cracks forming in the corners. My first notification of the problem was a corner of the trim popping off during a car wash. Seems the trim wants to expand off the glass. The good news is of course that it is only cosmetic and there's no leaking or anything plus it is under warranty.
View 3 RepliesHow to remove the interior trim on the rear quarter panel?
View 1 RepliesWhile driving the other day I heard a loud bang under the ex. went back and found the rubber bump stop on the drivers side had rotted and fell off. After inspecting the passenger side it looks like it is about to fall off . I dont mind spending money to keep my equip in proper running order but I dont want to be taken advantage of doing it!
View 14 RepliesI have a squeaky front end on my 2005. I have changed the front struts but it still squeaks when turning or when going over a bump.
View 5 RepliesI took the car into the dealership to check an odd noise that comes from the front of the car every time I pass over speed bump or road holes.
They say I have to replace the steering rack. Can it be fixed or have to be changed anyway?
Problem: 55-60+ mph hit a bump front end shakes violently. Slow down to 40 mph it stops. DOES NOT happen every time, and may only happen once a week, but when it does my whole front end feels like it will come loose.
Solutions to date that have not worked:
1. Rotate and balance tires. (tire shop)
2. New shocks. (me)
3. New steering stabilizer. (me)
4. Changed ball joint and bushing in track bar. (Dealership)
5. Check ball bearings and seem to be ok. (me)
6. Check tie rod ends and are ok. (Dealership)
The only other options people have given me:
1. Dual Steering Stabilizer. (Have had truck since Jan and hasn't done it in about 19,000 miles. Why would it need it now? Truck has 109,000 miles on it.)
2. New tires. (If it were the tires wouldn't it do it all the time? )
I hit a bump while i was braking and the car felt like it was released from brakes while i still had my foot pressed on the pedal. I tried again on the same bump and it did it again.
View 5 RepliesRecently got tboned on right side front of the car, damaging rt suspension...got the car back after a month in the bodyshop, after a week i noticed that everytime i hit a bump on the road i hear the springs squeaking loud, sounds like its loose , upon checking the spring i saw that the letters and number on the spring is upside down ( trd springs) could this b the reason why its making a noise cz its upside down?
