I just bought a 2014 PiP. I'm a tall guy, and sometimes when looking for change in my pocket or my phone I'll extend my leg out while on the brake. When I do so, the traction light comes on. Once I drive away, it goes out.
View 4 RepliesI have had the traction light come on twice when at a stop light. Once was when I was reaching back to give my daughter her juice that was in the front cup holder. The other time I was trying to get something out of my pocket to give to someone in the car.
View 11 RepliesI own a 2010 Jeep Liberty and this is my first RWD vehicle (when set in the normal 2WD mode of course). I notice that whenever I accelerate from a stop, on even a slightly wet road, the rear wheels spin and I get the traction light on my dashboard. I then need to take my foot of the gas and accelerate ohhhh soooo slowly. I've never had this kind of wheel spin on my previous AWD or FWD vehicles. Is this a known "feature" or RWD vehicles? Or maybe my one year old tires are inadequate? With my Liberty I could try switching to 4WD LOCK mode before attempting the acceleration to see if this works.
View 19 RepliesMy 2010 70,000km car has this problem since yesterday. That was after leaving it at car wash, they call to tell me it's not starting. Display message said to press brakes while starting, which I did, yeah I pressed it very hard.
After online look up and phone call with Toyota Lanka, I myself checked brake light switch in pedal, since brake lights were not turning on but switch was fine.
Then Toyota Lanka engineer came to location and started by long pressing start. Replaced brake light fuse, which was burned.
But still this light is on. I think it could be due to hard pressing of brake. But now car works fine apart from the brake hold function. Will display reset work, then how to do that
On Friday, the traction control light turned on (with no sound) and stayed on while driving, stopped and parked. I brought it to my local dealership to check and see what was wrong. I was informed that the steering angle sensor circuit went bad. I asked if the car could drive fine without the repair and was told it would be okay. I also asked if this error light could be turned off and was informed that it was impossible. I went home and parked. Sunday night, I noticed that none of the interior lights would work.

View 10 RepliesI slammed on my brakes the other day because a car pulled out in front of me. When i let off the brakes i noticed the car did not move for a good 1-2 seconds and a traction control light was flashing. I didn't think much of it until i was sitting at a light and decided to see what happens if i press my brake pedals in hard again... the traction light turns on again and the car doesn't move when brakes are disengaged for a few seconds. Is this normal? It feels like my hill assist on the BMW. Why the traction light turns on? My car is a 2010 Prius III with 5k miles.
View 5 RepliesI am not sure if they are related or if they happened at the same time but my wife said her heater/ac fan wasn't working. So I figured it was a fuse, but after visually checking all the fuses and I mean all, none appear to be blown. After checking all the fuses I turned the car on, only to find out I put a couple fuses in the wrong locations and re-installed according to the diagram on the back of the cover. Turned car back on and heater fan as expected did not turn on. Then I noticed the Trac light on, not blinking or beeping just "on". After looking on the forums and web this means that it is turned off. If it is just off how do you turn it back on?

View 8 RepliesI just drove my Prius through 8-10 inches of heavy wet snow. The car did amazingly well. At times my traction control light was on when trying to get up an incline until the car got going. Then when I got home I stopped in my driveway for the garage door to open and started into the garage. The car was stuck, but then the light came on and the car climbed the driveway in about 10-15 seconds and made it in the garage. I then noticed a smell like burning tires. Maybe it was the tires from spinning. I hope that I didn't hurt my transmission or another component. Does the Prius protect itself if it is stuck and the traction control light is on from overheating something? I think I recall that the 2nd generation Prius would not allow for wheel spin to protect the traction battery.

I noticed that when the vehicle is in drive and is stopped at a stop sign/light on a steep incline (i.e. front of vehicle is at significantly higher than rear), when accelerating away from the stop, the traction control system (?) will beep and make some noise for a second or two if the car rolls backward from the stop when the brake is released.

View 12 RepliesHyundai Elantra 2011... My issue occurred just yesterday on a highway at speeds above 65 mph. I initially noticed my traction control light blinking upon light acceleration but with no noticeable loss in traction.
I continued with caution. About 5 minutes later, the light now was blinking regardless of the amount of acceleration. I found I could push the accelerator to the floor with no added power and my speedometer was dropping below 55 mph.
Being a busy highway, I had to very quickly get to the side of the road as my car dropped to dangerous speeds in the middle of the highway. Had I no shoulder or outlet, I could've been in serious trouble.
The situation resolved itself with a simple shut down, restart of the vehicle. But it makes me very concerned why the error in the computer occurred in the first.
I just recently purchase my first 2012 Prius Three and so far it's been great on gas. However, today I had my wipers on full speed because of the rain here in Northern Cali and noticed that my car was swaying at the stop light. At first I thought it might be the wind but when I turn off the wipers the swaying went away. Turned them on full blast and the swaying came back. Is this normal?
View 7 RepliesMy uncles car traction control light comes on when it feels like it. Its a 2010 with 6000miles 4cyl. Warranty is up in december. Can this problem be a sensor on the wheels? I will bring it in to have dealer check it. I just wanted a heads up of what it could be.
View 3 RepliesThis is my first year driving my prius during a hot season, and for past 3 weeks my mpg has dropped from 49 to 41-43 mpg, and the reason is my traction battery keeps getting HOT! I can hear the battery cooling fan turning on constantly at max when i reach 20 mph, my car doesn't want to start in EV mode the engine just kicks in no matter how light you press the throttle, the EV motor is not assisting with the engine, the infamous slow rpm drop keep occurring and I when to touch the traction battery case and it its HOT, Ive open up the case to check for any dust on the fan and ducts but so far its spotless. I really wished they place an AC vent for the battery because the back passenger area with full A/C doesn't t get as cold as the front dose which doesn't cool off the battery.

I've read on how to disengage the traction control, but my problem is the light doesn't come on in the dash on startup. I'm assuming a burnt out light, but I don't that that is a normal thing.
View 14 RepliesI wanted to pass along the results of a brake issue I encountered in my 2010 Prius (15K miles) and report to interested Prius owners how the issue was resolved.
Problem: In the last second (or so) coming to a complete stop I noticed a few light clunk type sounds, like something was loose up front. I never experienced any degradation in the braking performance.
Is there a way to turn off Traction Control on a 2012 Prius? It's not useful when trying to break a path thru heavy wet snow. I've looked in the Owners Manual, but so far haven't found a description of deactivating Traction Control.

I'm thinking that would double the Ev range, which would be very handy in my current commute due to long term construction on one of the highways I use. I am in sub-5 mph stop and go so long each day that I wear down my battery and the ice ends up running while stopped, thus killing my hypermiler goals.
