When I am slowing down and lightly pressing on the brakes and around 18mph or lower i hear a tick-tick-tick-tick noise , sounds like a roulette wheel from a casino war game in vegas coming to a stop, from the left front side..what could this be? .
View 2 RepliesMe and a friend changed just the front brake pads on my hyundai sonata 2012 limited turbo (about 55$ ceramic Wagner thermo-quiets)about a week ago . This was the first ever brake job done for the car so I assumed the rotors were fine . We made sure it was greased up everywhere it was supposed to (Didn't replace or turn them) since then my front brakes have been squealing only when I lightly apply pressure on the brakes slowing down , and goes away completely when pressed down harder. I realized I should have probably changed or turned my rotors after I already drove with the new pads on the old rotors for about a week so it's probably too late now. I am just wondering whether this noise go away eventually (what I initially figured it would) from the pads perhaps wearing back into the old rotors ? Or am I better off not waiting for this because the noise won't to away and I should just change the pads again along with the rotors!?
View 43 RepliesI am getting a ticking sound when i am slowing down (applying my brakes) at say 35/30mph. The sound stops when I stop. This problem starts after my car warms up; doesn't do it when I first start up.
I've taken the car to 2 Hyundai dealerships and a certified mechanic and the problem continues. I first noticed this about a month ago.
So far no one seems to be able to find the problem. The mechanic did try by replacing the front brake pads. He said something about a "shims piece " and thought if we replace the front pads that would take care of the problem. The rear brakes or ok.
I'm still having the problem and I wonder if it's the rear brakes after all. I don't know what I can try now. Someone suggested going to Brake Check. I have about 1000 miles left on the original warranty.
Every time when lightly depressing the brake pedal there is a single click sound.
It doesn't not happen when releasing the pedal just when depressing it. It happens in all circumstances (i.e. with the car off, car on, stopped, moving, etc).
I thought it corresponded to the tail lights or the start button light because it happens right around when those lights turn on, but I was able to make it click without having either of those lights come on by depressing the pedal super slow.
I can't tell if its inside the car near the pedal or under the hood near the firewall... But it's right around that area. It seems louder at times then other times...usually quieter when car is moving (probably just drowned out by road noise)
When I apply the brakes at speeds of 30 mph and under I hear a ticking noise. (The noise might still be there above 30 mph , but due to road noise I cant hear it)
I believe it is the front drivers side but after taking wheel off and taking it to the dealership. I can not find the problem. The dealership states they can't hear it while on several road test, but I have showed them the video clip and they have no idea what it is.
I have a 2005 GLI tip-tronic. Bought used but the brakes are not that great. I know what the brakes should feel like since I did a swap for them on my GTI. I'm done brake pads /flush and cycled the abs pump to try an fix it. However on this car when I press the brakes I can here a humming/ buzzing noise. I'm assuming it the brake assist pump. Can this be eliminated or does it have to be replaced. The car stops just not all that great for it having the type of brakes it has.
View 1 RepliesI have a 05' prius with 106k miles on it that i got a few weeks ago. When I am sitting stopped and the ice is shut down and i have the brake pressed i hear something of a "blub blub blub" like fluid going through some sort of tube or something. It seems to be related only to when holding the brake at a stop. I wasn't sure if this was a normal sound or not. The brakes function ok and the sound goes away when i release the pedal. It isn't related to the inverter compressor as that seems to buzz and stop as one would expect. I haven't had a chance to hold the pedal while listening under the hood but it seems to be coming from the area around the ice under the hood.

View 19 RepliesI have a 2004 Ford Expedition and today on the freeway I had to step on the brakes pretty hard to avoid an accident. After pressing, the pedal resistance became really soft and the brakes worked, but were very sensitive (a lot of pedal movement to brake). I had this happen some time ago and I did a complete system flush and no problems since then, but it has to do with how hard I hit the brakes. What could be wrong????? BTW - I never noticed the anti-lock brake pedal pulse at all during this event. I'm not even sure it is working at this point. No dash lights to indicate an error of any sort.
View 3 Replies2005 F-250 6.0 4x4. After about 50,000 miles on my original brakes, they started to make a squealing noise when applying moderate brake pressure and slowing down around 30mph-0mph. It only happens after Ive driven the truck about 30 mins. It must be warmed up. After 100,000 I decided to change the brakes.....they had plenty of life left on them, but I changed them anyway. I put on new rotors and pads and calipers in the front because one was hanging.
After about 10,000 miles, the exact same squeal has returned. With the windows down, its loud enough to physically hurt your ears if you are next to a car and the sound can bounce back into the cab. It sounds terrible. I thought it was the front brakes, so I took them apart this weekend to put in some Disc Brake Quiet. They pads look great, plenty left, the rotors look great, no grooves. Everything is tight. I relubed pins and brackets and clips. Today...same squeal still. I am at a complete loss here. It is some sort of harmonic squeal and the only thing I can figure is that the rears are the culprit. I have a drivers rear caliper that will hang and stick if you drive it really hard, so I am considering replacing the rear calipers too and do the disc brake quiet treatment there as well. Im not confident this will solve the problem.
Like I said, its so loud you can't drive with the windows down. Its a piercing squeal. Is there anything else that I can check? I can't imagine others don't do this. Its so loud and pronounced that it must be some sort of design flaw or something.
Before putting the kid in the car seat I like to turn on the a/c (in my previous car I would open the passenger side front door and turn the key). According to the manual, pushing the Start button twice will activate all the electrical. But no cold air is coming out in my Prius, just fan. Not till I depress the brake.
View 19 RepliesOn Monday evening my wife left our 2010 Prius Gen III without pressing the "off" button. She took the keys with her and she claims that she locked the car.
On Wednesday morning I noticed that the dashboard panel was switched on and I deduced that the Prius has been running all the time, with the ICE engine kicking in now and then to keep up the Hybrid battery level. A quick call to my dealer confirmed this, and also the fuel consumption average was in line: 14 l/100 km on a 20 Km trip (my average is 3.9 -4.2 l/100km...).
I was very surprised to discover that the Prius does not switches off when the key is removed (i.e. taken far away from the car). This seems to me a sort of engineering flaw.
My wife was driving our 2 young kids on the highway and the accelerator was making a loud clacking noise and then there was no response when pressing the accelerator. She managed to get to the shoulder. Mechanic says the engine is totally cooked (long block replacement). Only 32K miles and all scheduled maintenance done.

View 10 RepliesFor a while my G35 has been making a thunking sound from the front end when either I go over bumps or I apply the brakes lightly at speed. It happens on both the right and left side (i.e. if I go over a bump with my left tire, it happens on the left side, with my right tire, on the right side, etc). Before I take it to mechanic need to determine if it's something I can fix myself.
View 13 Repliesi have a 2010 with 182k miles. The vehicle will jerk like the drive is engaging and disengaging several times (repeatively) when going down hill. It doesn't matter how fast, but I notice it does depend on the ECO indicator. The ECO gage always indicates above the mid mark but ranges between no more than quarter to an inch and quarter above. If I speed up it stops and if I slow down below the mid line it will stop.
View 13 RepliesWe recently purchased a (used) 2010 Volkswagen Routan with approximately 40k miles. Almost immediately we noticed a loud noise whenever we began to slow down in city traffic. The noise is loudest after the car has been driven for a while. It sounds like metal knocking around. The dealership claims the brake pads are causing this noise. They said the pads are perfectly good but are two different brands and this is what is causing the sound. I do not believe brake pads would continue to make this noise after 3 months if they were good. I am also not convinced it is the brake pads at all.
View 1 RepliesGoing down a steep loose gravel drive way, going maybe 5 miles per hour. About 50 feet before the stop sign we lightly applied the brakes and the front right wheel completely locked up. If we didn't turn into the grass we would of stopped in the middle of the busy street. We picked up speed when we applied the brakes, like we were on ice. When I got out, I could see the one long brake mark in the driveway. This happened on a paved road about 6 months ago, it had some loose gravel at the stop sign. I couldn't tell which wheel locked up at the time. This happened on snow in December to, twice. Since the ABS light never came on. Brake pads and rotors needed replacing about 9 months ago. Tires have been rotated, no change. Not sure what it could be. I disconnected the Abs fuse for now.
View 5 RepliesOur 2010 Prius has about 57K miles on it (mostly highway and rural commuting). The rear brakes just started to make some noise the other day at low speeds. It sounds like a light metallic squeal, similar to a brake pad wear indicator. It only occurs at low speeds and in reverse. Last time I checked the pads, they had lots of life, but that was in the spring.
I'd like to take apart the brakes to service them, but I don't know if this is a DIYer job on a Pruis. I have tons of experience on auto repairs, and have done hundreds of brake jobs (I also perform auto restoration as a hobby and have done almost every type of mechanical work on a car). So I am not really worried about my skill, but I am worried about knowing the proper procedure to do the repairs on a Pruis.
Today was the second time I have walked into the garage and heard my Prius making a weird noise. It's not the noise that comes from the front when you open the door or press the brakes....It's coming from the rear of the car. It stops when I press the start button. I made a video of the noise (nothing to see, as it was dark in the garage, but you can hear the noise.
My concern is that it's something running that will wear down my battery if I happen to not notice it is doing it sometime in the future.
