Last night the TPMS light came on on my month old 2010 Prius. I checked all the tire pressures and they we @ 38 rear and 40 front.
TPMS light went off after 4-5 times of turning the car on/off.
What might have been the problem? Is it something I need to be concerned about?
Our 2012 Prius with now 17,000 miles in 8 months has developed a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel, especially far to the right at low speeds.
The first time the dealer identified it as a failed intermediate shaft and replaced it under warranty. Shortly after we told them it was starting to make the noise again, but they claimed they couldn't replicate the sound and anything they heard was normal 'linkage' (whatever that is). Shortly thereafter the clunking progressed so we took it in for now the third time, and they confirmed the problem, spoke with Toyota who said we must have had a bad part, and replaced it again.
I tried to reset my TPMS light using the procedure in the owner's manual after installing my snow tires on the OEM wheels. Now it looks like there is no effects as the lights will just keep blinking even if i am holding the button down. Does this mean the tire shop broke one of my sensor during the install?
View 5 RepliesMy 08 passenger side HID is intermittingly on and off and at times grows dim but stays on. Researching, I think it s either the HID bulb or the ballast. How do I tell which one? I have already had the driver side HID replaced last year-$$$$-so I am thinking of doing the work myself. The bulb is within my abilities but if it s the ballast I m a little hesitant.

I've searched and know i will need a Vagcom and tire pressure reset button to set the system like my new 2012. I'm thinking of just getting my own Vagcom as we now have two newer cars and it seems like every part of the car has a sensor! Looking at the Ross-tech website I'm a little confused as to buy and where to get it.

I am not too familiar with electrical system on the Prius, but suspect bad relay or something related. Where the relay for the headlight is?
Okay, this is a weird situation that I can't figure out. I haven't gone to the dealer yet, but I will have to before I hit 30,000 miles. (I'm at about 22,000 now) I thought I would pose this to the forum, for the interest, if nothing else.
A couple months ago, I replaced every lightbulb in the car (except for low and high beams) with LEDs from superbrightleds.com. They have worked wonderfully. I didn't install the new flasher module, however, because it's too hard to get to and I have no problem with the lights blinking fast.
I purchased a set of Scion FRS wheels. I assume these have TPMS sensors installed. I found the reset button under the dash and followed the directions in the manual. The light still hasn't gone off.
Is there a different method to get the TPMS sensors to relearn? Or did I make the wrong assumption that stock FRS wheels have sensors.
I have a 2013 Prius with approximately 23000 miles on it. The TPMS randomly comes on flashes for a minute then goes Solid for about 10 minutes. On an average trip of about 100 miles or so it will go 3 or 4 times. I've taken it to Toyota to have them look at it, and they kept telling me that they couldn't find anything wrong and it has probably has something to do either with my tire pressure or my tire tread. I just did my 20K service appointment and they tried to tell me the same thing. after going back and forth with the maintenance tech, he finally admitted that the only hook up the car to the diagnostic machine when the light is actually on. After back and forth discussion I finally convince the maintenance tech to keep the car and drive it for a distance so they can see the light come on. The manual says if the TPMS starts flashing to have it looked at. But the problem is that the dealer won't work on it unless the light is actually on which is next to impossible since I'm always on the road when it happens. Has this TPMS issue ever happened to any other Prius owner?

View 14 RepliesTPMS warning light is sometimes on, sometimes flashes, sometimes off. Only 2800 miles. Checked your pressures @ 38 psi. Have had no tire issues, nails. Etc. Took to dealer today. Service advisor said too much air in tires. Lowered to 35 psi. I have doubts about their"fix". Time will tell.

Came out of the grocery store are the TMPS light blinked for a minute, and stayed illuminated. I carry a tire pressure gauge so I checked manually- all tested fine. How do I reset?
View 28 Replies2-3 times a month the yellow TPMS light with exclamation point comes on, blinks about 10 times, and stays on steady. It's been doing this pretty consistently since I got the car, with one exception. I have a separate set of wheels & snow tires for winter and those have their own sensors. When I had those on the car for 2 months, I never saw the TPMS light. As soon as I put the OEM wheels back on, it lit again.
So finally I went to the dealer today. I figured it was a bad sensor. Naturally the light wasn't on when I got there. They scanned it and saw in the history a communication failure with all four wheels. They called Hyundai, then came back and told me that electronic equipment that I'm driving past can set it off. They mentioned banks & cell towers, among other things.
I don't think this is my issue. I travel the same route every day. The light comes on intermittently, sometimes when I'm on a rural highway away from any electronics. And I drive by plenty of banks and cell towers without it coming on.
So they didn't do anything for me. I'm at 43K. My concern is once I hit 60K and the warranty is done, if the TPMS brain croaks, I'll be on the hook for it.
With the temps at a all time low in the U.S. this week, my TPMS warning light has come on in my 2012 RX350. It will stay very cold for most of the week, so is it ok to drive with my warning light on.
I don't want to check my psi in the tires with a tire gauge because I was told a valve stem can freeze open in extreme cold letting the tire to go completely flat.
We own a 2010 Honda CRV and at 25,000 miles the TPMS light started coming on every time the car was driven for thirty minutes on the highway. It has been to the dealership four times now and it is still not fixed. They first relearned the system and then they replaced the component that the sensors communicate with and the light continued to come on every time. They then replaced all four sensors as well as the radio. The light still came on again after thirty minutes into a long drive at high speed. The air conditioner panel was swapped with another and problem still not solved. They replaced two more brand new sensors on rear tires for new ones because the rear tires still showed faulty sensors.
For some reason they decided to take the tires off and replace with tires from another CRV they had on their lot which had alloy wheels and not steel and they test drove it and claimed the TPMS light did not come on. This was a waste of time because they just put the original tires back on anyway. Every time the car was taken in they claimed they fixed it and test drove it to make sure. After four visits to the dealership and the last time they had it for over a week, the car is not fixed and the TPMS light still comes on.
2012 Elantra GLS. Wife comes home and says the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) light on the dash is lit. I check the tire pressure. None abnormally low but I decide to top them off. Notice that two of the valve stem caps are broken. The tips are broken off so I can see the little red gasket. On opposite sides of the car. No damage to the wheel covers. The valve stems don't stick out past the wheel covers so I wonder how the caps could have gotten broken. Could that be why the TPS system is giving me a warning? If by chance there was a pressure issue does the light reset itself or does the dealer have to do it?
View 19 RepliesMy TPMS light was on, so I went to my friendly mechanic and had him replace a bad TPMS in one of my tires. This is what he found in the tire.
The sensor case was smooth like it had tumbled around in there a while.
Because the snow and ice performance is so poor and I was going to need tires anyway, I put winter tires on it this year.
They do not have TPMS sensors in them, I was going to live with the warning light for 3 months rather than paying for the sensors. Besides, they were already mounted and balanced.
So, I put them on the car last night and drove the car for 5-10 miles to trigger the light so I knew what my wife should expect. No TPMS light came on. My wife drove it to work this morning (21 miles). Still no TPMS light.
TPMS light comes on. Properly inflated all four tires, then attempted to reset the TPMS system. The procedure says to hold the button until the light blinks three times. Having done this in the past, I know that the light should stop blinking when the reset button is released. Now, the light continues to blink after releasing the reset button. When in regular drive mode, the button is continuously on.
View 2 RepliesMy Pris 2010 would not start this morning. My wife tried to start the car this morning and it would not start. All the symbols on the display light up and would not go. She then tries to turn off the car, but the Triangle symbol with the exclamation mark within it lights up. The Start button light is red and the Park button flashes green. Added to that is the constant beep that you hear when you try to close the door with the keys in the car. I cannot even turn the steering wheel. I had to get it towed to the Toyota dealer and am was told that i would hear back tomorrow.
