Except there is a small problem, a squeak has started that is definitely based on my speed. It seems to go away a little when I turn.
At EV speeds it sounds like the plane wheels from the beginning of "Back in the USSR".
I have a 2006 LX with 25k miles.. within the past 1,500 miles or so, I notice there is a squeaking/creaking/rubbing sound coming from the steering wheel column when I turn (and cut, specifically) the wheel at stopped and low speeds (such as pulling out of the driveway or maneuvering into a parking spot). At faster speeds this doesn't happen.
I intend on bringing this to the dealer. What should I expect, and should I bring this in ASAP?
Is it my wheel bearing, rotors or brake pads?
How do I describe it... well it has this squealing noise and it's proportional to my speed.
Heard this while I had my windows rolled down.
This is a known issue with Lexus. Bring your Lovely RX to the dealer so they can replace the Steering wheel column, so it will stop the "Squeak" noise.
View 2 RepliesMy parents own a 2013 Elantra 4-door (sedan) and for the last few months it's been making a metal grind/squeak. Here are the following characteristics:
-It occurs only during acceleration from a full stop or low speed. It would then disappear if we drive it longer or get to 60km/h.
-We've diagnosed it to the front right wheel.
-It sounds like the squeak at you get when your break pads are almost used up - metal on metal grinding squeak
-It seems to be temperature related as the squeaking occurs less during cooler temperatures - it comes back once (I assume) the wheel / brake / rotors are sufficiently warm.
We have brought it to a mechanic and he did hear the squeak. He took of the pads and re-lubed (not on the braking side obviously). No change. BTW the pads are still very beefy and is the original pads that came with the car.
Searching online it seems this issue is fairly common and it seems to be the brake pads. Is this what's happening to my parents' car? If so is it as simple as replacing the brake pads with a different brand?
I just replace front struts- 125,000 miles.
Needed for probably 4 years. Def. fixed some issues but I still hear rubber squeak when I turn corners at slow speeds. Sounds like something needs lube. Any thoughts? 2007 Prius.
I had the front struts replaced. I looked at the strut diagram and replaced most of the parts associated with the front struts. The rear shocks were also replaced. New brakes were installed on the front and rear. The front rotors were replaced. Mileage 124000 miles.
I thought this would might solve the squeaking when I went over a speed bump in the parking lot. It did not. How to fix the squeaking.
so I was heading off the freeway to take my exit at night. Didn't see there was a little curb island between the main freeway and exit. Went with the car over the curb and my right passenger tire went out.
I changed the tire and driven off, then noticed the car sound got much louder all of a sudden and when I turn the steering wheel right or left, I hear or feel a heavy sharp sensation- yet the car turns fine, it just sounds louder when I press the gas and when I turn the steering wheel I can feel my feet vibrating a bit and a soft/sharp squeak sound comes out.
What could this be?
Under your Prius, you have "guards" made of plastic and held in place by fasteners that unscrew off but press onto the bolt studs coming down from the metal. They basically shield the underside from debris but have holes to let water flow back out.
I had a persistent squeak for the last couple of weeks that was really annoying me. So, I set out to see what I could do about it. I thought I'd have to add an adhesive pad as a "bumper" between two parts, but when I tapped on the guard (reproducing the noise), I could tell there was a lot of pea gravel in there.
It took a while to get the first fastener off. They don't just "unscrew" that easily. The slightest pressure and you wind up pushing them back on. So, I had to work with two tools with one being a screwdriver gently prying it away from the panel so each turn made it come farther off the bolt. Once the first one was done, the rest were easy. Three in total on each side.
I got a cereal bowl full of pea gravel out of each guard. I was shocked that so much road debris was trapped up on there, but this stuff was big enough to not flow out with the water.
I have a 2010 Prius. In the last few months, the radio has started acting strangely.
Sometimes it will increase I speed when you speed up and slow down when you slow down. And play normally when at a stand still. Sometimes it locks up, you can not change the volume or station. Sometimes it does not work at all. Other times it works just fine.
When I called the dealership, they will only replace the radio and not investigate the issue. Replacement could cost 300-400.
I guess it's more of an annoyance thing than anything else. When I drive I like to rest my knee on the this area where the window switch is. If I drive over a bump etc...this area squeaks. Is it worth having the dealer fix or will it just return.

So I jacked up the rear and found that there was play in the passenger rear wheel.. The bolt holding the hub together was tight..

She mentioned that its steering wheel started shaking a couple of weeks ago when driving at about 60 miles/hour at the same streth of the road during her daily commute. She did experience the problem during rest of her drive at lower speed. I drive the car about once a week at lower than 45 miles/hour and had no problem. I have checked the tires and noticed nothing obvious.
View 1 RepliesI purchased a set of new LTX MS2 tires back in October and a week ago a got a nail on the right front tire, specifically the side wall so they couldn't fix it so they replaced the tire with a new one. Now when I step on the brakes at 60 mph, the steering wheel vibrates. Can the new tire be causing that? I looked at the weights and one set of weights is taped kind of crooked, can the balancing cause it too?
View 14 RepliesWe have been tolerating a bad squeak in the driver's side front door upon opening, closing (any type of swinging of the door). Dealer tried lubricating it with no success. They told us that they would order a new hinge and "hope" that resolves it. I am a little worried about this. Would you trust your dealer to remove and re-install the door or just live with the squeak?

There are times I really go over slow but i still hear the noise.. It's a noise as if the tires are touching / rubbing against the front fender or something.. suqeak... View 24 RepliesMy dealership said our left rear is noisy and that we need new wheel bearings and a speed sensor and to do an alignment and balance. I called my other wheel place and they are about $300 cheaper. But, they said I have the option of an OEM wheel bearing or different one. I'm a little confused, but I think the OEM would be about $85 more, if I understood correctly. Whether or not to get OEM for this?

View 9 RepliesNeed to replace at least one rear wheel bearing, but still not positive which side. Getting a whump whump whump and slight howl at speed that seems to be worse going around right turns, so will change the drivers side first.
View 3 RepliesMy wife has a 2006 GLS and the top strut mounts need replacing, they squeak during the winter when i go over speed bumps. Since i drive the vehicle more than her (i have a 92 accord that i drive to work daily lol) and i have to modify every car that i own. Since i will be taking the strut assembly apart to change out the mounts it gave me a good reason to purchase lowering springs ( coilovers are not in my budget).
View 1 Replies1999 Windstar 3.8. I heard a slight squeak noise fron front end, when low speed driving. Sounds not really horrible, but annoying, and I wish to find out the real cause before it turn worse. It's not easy to describe what the noise sounds like. I can hear it at low speed, seems not relates to steering. At higher speed, it disappears, not sure really gone or covered by other noise. And, when I just parked, and kick the tire, the same noise can be reproduced. But when I tried to kick next day, no more noise.
