In the last week or so I have noticed a faint gasoline smell when I pull my 2010 Prius (with 70,000 miles) into the garage and shut it down. I've looked under the hood and not seen anything obvious and there aren't any leaks onto the floor.
View 19 RepliesWent down to my garage after the Prius had been off for at least 5 hours and heard a whirring kind of like a fan in the back half of the vehicle. I had never heard this before and it went on for at least 5 minutes then quit. My garage was probably around 60 degrees for most of that time, fwiw. Seems like the area of the battery fan but why would that need to run?
View 2 RepliesI've just purchased a 2010 F-150 scab 4x4 with the 4.6 3v. When I have the air conditioning on drawing air from outside I get a strong gas odor in the cab. Originally I thought it was natural gas, but then my wife mentioned she too smelled gas, gasoline. If I use the recirculated air the smell goes away, almost instantly. Additionally, there is a faint odor of gasoline outside of the truck as well, but not nearly as strong as in the cab. There also is a ticking sound coming from the top of the engine, I believe the egr solenoid. Could these two issues be related? Either way, what are the possible causes of this smell? What are the fixes to these possible causes?
View 2 RepliesI parked the little dear in the garage about 9:30 last night. I went into the garage this morning around 6:30 and I noticed how still and quiet it seemed. I then opened the garage door and went outside for a few minutes. When I came back in, I hear a low whirring sound. I went back outside to listen, but it was definitely coming from the Prius, perhaps near the back, underneath.
The hatch was open; I closed it, but the sound didn't change. The fob was in the house, and I didn't open the driver door, so it wasn't the brake pump. It lasted at least 2-3 minutes, at which time I was too bored to continue listening, and I went back to weeding and watering.
We parked the V in the garage at 5 pm, and at 11pm went out into the garage for something, and heard a buzzing, but had a hard time trying to locate the noise. it seemed to be coming from the V. so i opened the drivers door , and after a couple seconds it stopped. then i closed the door and it started again. i opened it a second time it stopped again, after i closed it, it didn't start buzzing again ??? does this happen to other peoples prius's
View 6 RepliesWhen my Prius C is in the garage for awhile and then I open the driver door to get in the car there is always the sound of a running motor - "rrrrrrrrr" coming from the engine compartment. The sound is of a motor running. The sound always lasts the same lenght of time - about 9 seconds. Then the sound stops. Since it happens all the time, I think it is part of the Prius C computer start-up software program. What is the source of this running motor. Is it the power steering motor or a fuel, oil or cooling pump?

A couple of hours later went into the garage to drop a trash bag and heard a humming/whirling sound from the garage. Walked around the Prius and isolated it coming from the bottom rear of the car. Went and got key, turned the car on, then off again and the noise ceased. What that was? Fuel pump maybe? And why did this occur?
View 2 RepliesWe have a 2013 Prius v two that is 5 months old. It has NO alarm system. This morning while sitting in our garage the car sounded as if a car alarm went off. The lights started flashing and the horn went off and on for 10 seconds or so. This happened three times over a period of 2 hours. There is no car alarm in this car.
I turned on the car to see if there were any error messages. We are coming up on the 5000 mile maintenance and the indicator for that was on. There were no error messages.
I recently noticed gasoline odor in the oil. What is the cause ??
View 1 RepliesTwice now, I've been parked on a very slight hill, nose up, the diesel levels are less than a quarter tank but still over the low level warning. When I start the car, it starts but then shuts off within a few seconds, the second time I try, it turns but no start, and then it basically shuts off and doesn't even turn. Both times, I've coasted down the hill a bit because it becomes flat and then it can start. I asked the dealership about it but they said I self diagnosed it.. and they didn't even look at it further.
I've never had this problem with any other VW I've owned in the pass. So far this car is starting to disapoint me.. mileage wise, it's fine and I love the wagon part but I've been having lots of small problems arise. My warranty is about to expire in another 15000km's and I'm wondering if I should even bother keeping it. It's my main car and I travel with it a lot for work. (65 000km's on it in 20 months). However, I'm finding it hard even thinking of another car to replace my VW.

I have a 1976 Volkswagon Bus with automatic transmission and the 2000 cc engine. It was running fine one day, we pull it into the garage for the night, and the next morning it won't start. There is a heavy smell of gasoline in the garage now.

View 1 RepliesI am getting a raw constant raw gas odor from under the hood - and in the cabin with the ventilation on. This happens whenever the engine is on - hot, cold, at start up or 50 miles down the road. No visible leaks, no drips - nothing. My lousy Honda dealer found nothing. Pressure check on the fuel system was fine,no leaking hoses, no check engine light, no codes. Smell seems to be coming from the behind the engine on the left side (looking at the engine from the front) - behind cylinders 1 and 2. 125k EX V6.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2009 4cyl GLS with a manual trans (about 18K miles). For the past few months, I have been noticing a faint gasoline odor both in my car and around my car after it has been running for awhile. And yes I have checked and it is not on my shoes or floor mats. The car does not smell until I get off the interstate etc... At first I thought it was another car around me that is giving off the odor but after many trips without cars near me, I can smell it and my passengers notice it too. It does not seem to happen when it is full, usually only around a half tank or less. I checked all around and under the car for any signs of leaks and found none, just wafts of gasoline odor. My MPGs is not off so I must not be leaking too much but the odor is getting worse.
View 17 RepliesSeveral months ago one of my 20" toyo tires was flat when I came out of work. Being a high school teacher, I thought that perhaps it was a students involved situation. That came as a surprise in that as a teacher of over 37 years, nothing has ever happened to any of my vehicles, while parked at school. Also I found it strange that they would let air out and put the chrome valve cap back on. Well, over the weekend, the same thing happened, with the car parked in my garage. So in both instances the tires went flat, I filled them back up and they held air. This happened months apart.
View 6 RepliesI just purchased a 99 GA SE, 130K, 3.4L and when we test drove it the horn did not work. Salesman said previous owner disconnected it because it "had a mind of its own". Dealer reconnected horn, I brought it home, parked it in the garage and was startled out of my sleep at 4:30 am by the distinct sound of a car horn...full blast and steady.
After a short and panicked look for the horn (couldn't locate it) I opened the driver's door and smacked, hard, the center of steering wheel. Horn stopped immediately. So, I quickly disconnected the battery to avoid further embarrassment and early morning wake-ups, and that's where I'm at.
I noticed when I tried the horn after picking up the vehicle it didn't take much pressure to activate the horn.
RC 350 parked in garage, 40 deg, F, for 4 hours. Happened to walk by and heard noise. Sounded like a quiet, harsh electrical hum are air escaping. Not positive but it seemed like the source was at the rear of the car and not the garage door. Noise stopped before I could trace it further. This was a second occurrence. So far no dead battery or flat tires!

View 3 RepliesMy car usually is park in the garage. I was out of town this weekend and parked outside in 30 degrees weather, then my ML system's HDD won't start up. No GPS, no HDD audio and no voice command? It work again this morning after it sat in the garage overnight. I think this happened before last year also. Can I get the dealer to replace the HDD with my platinum extended warranty?
