Prius (2010-12) :: Proper Way To Use Air Conditioner?
May 6, 2011
I am inquiring what the proper way to use the A/C would be. Here in Sacramento my car will be hot as hell when I get in the car. I am still figuring out the best way to cool the car down. How does the "LO" compare with the temperature gauge? I am noticing that when I use the 65 instead of the LO that the A/C feels cooler, but that could be just me.

I have a 2013 Prius with few miles. It seems like the air conditioner compressor makes a very loud humming noise. It's a little annoying inside, but outside it is really loud. I know it is running off an electric motor and I expect that to make some noise, but this seems excessive. Is this normal? Also, the compressor keeps running all the time. I thought they were supposed to cycle on and off. It seems like all air conditioning compressors do this to conserve energy, even a house air conditioning unit.

Problem with GPS not showing your proper location. I did get window tinting done but with a film that is not suppose to interfere. Also got a clean air sticker I installed on my windshield up by the rearview mirror. This lets you drive in the hov lanes in UT with only one person in the car. Couple of questions, where is the gps antenna and how can I check the signal strength? couldn't find it in the manual. Also, the car is 3 months old and this problem just started recently.

Just put my car in for it's first year's service(20,000 km). I made an observation to the service tech that during warm weather, there is a noticeable rattling whirring sound.
During testing, they were able to compare my car with another and confirmed the noise to be from the air-con compressor.

I just had the water pump replaced in my 2006 Prius, and I went to turn on my heater in the car, and the A/C is permanently switched on. I press the button to switch it off, but it keeps blowing cool air, and it says "air conditioning" on the top left section of the mid-panel screen. I can't get warm air and this is really irritating me. How can I get the air conditioning to stop blowing?

Ok, i got a 2005 Prius, recently i had to change the expansion valve so the dashboard was dismantled to get to the expansion valve somewhere behind the MFD. All that had been completed, but i noticed that the A/C direction control does not switch the direction of the air accordingly instead all the air comes out through the base of the dashboard (the foot area).
The touch screen 'climate' console is working fine. When I switch the A/C on, and set the fan to any level, air comes out of the foot area (base of the dashboard). This is the case at all vent directions.

My 2005 Prius, 88K miles, has developed an odd quirk. For about a month, the AC will not retain the last temperature setting. For example, you drive the car, set the temperature to max cold, arrive at your destination, turn the car off and when you start it again the temperature has reset to 75 degrees. Never used to do this before. I'm hoping it is just a module of some sort and not a major AC repair.

My 2007 Prius air conditioner blows mainly warm rather than cool air. I took it in for repairs and they replaced the high pressure hose but it is still not cooling the car. The dealer has had the car for 2 weeks trying to determine what the problem is. They tell me it should be blowing 42 degrees but is only blowing 62 degrees. They think that it might be the invertor that cost $1,000.

Recently had some bad luck and need to get new rims - what's the proper offset for the R? OEM offset is et50 correct? I'm thinking of getting a set of either BBS CHs or RS4s but want to know what the best offset is for the rim.

Just purchased and installed a set of Chinese HID and LED DRL headlamps. What's the proper way to align the low beams? Feels like too much light hits the road right now. Also, any way to adjust the "step" in the beam pattern. ___/---- My other vehicle has factory HIDs, and the step is hardly noticeable - looks more like this: ----/---- .

I was wondering if most of you here cool down your turbo for a minute or two before turning your car off after driving it kind of aggressive for a while? In the past I've heard people say "Most turbo failures happen from improper warm up and cool down".

My 2000 Corolla CE does not have ABS, I've heard the correct way to brake is to pump the brakes. Should I press the brake slowly and then depress fully and then press again OR should I press the brake, depress half way, and press again? How fast should I pulsate it? My commute involves a lot of braking and I don't want the rotors to become warped.

The two slow engine is starting to bug me. Acceleration from 0-50km/h is getting a little ridiculous. Any way to improve acceleration performance other than stepping hard on the gas pedal and make it rev. 4km rpm ? When I compare this with my gf's 2.5L Golf its just day and night difference.
I don't want a noisy muffler or anything like that. I have never modded cars before and I'm not planning to go down that route either. After all this engine is over 10 years old right?

My engine coolant is low, so I just picked some up from toyota to top it off. The bottle says to see the owner's manual for the proper ratio. I don't have mine handy. The best I could find was this PDF posted by Bob. But it doesn't have the ratio. What it should be?
