I sometimes manually cut the headlights on during the day and I noticed that there is no bell or dinger that alerts me that they're on when the car is cut off. I assume the lights will cut themselves off after a period of time? Just concerned I might kill the battery if I don't notice I left them on.

View 2 RepliesMy local dealer (who seems very good) suggested they repair an oil leak at the timing chain cover before my 60K warranty expired. Kept the car 2 days waiting for parts. Then some very odd problems developed.
First I noticed the AC wasn't working: fan runs but will not blow cold. Dealer said must be something else because they didn't touch the AC. Then after a half hour of driving the AC suddenly starts blowing cold.
Maybe an hour of driving later, the dash beeps, alerts, and "low oil pressure" comes on the screen. Shut it off & have it towed to dealer.
While checking the mileage at the dealer, the service adviser and I both see the dash beep, alert, and ABS and Trak alarms go off.
Tech resets the computer but says he can't find any error codes. Systems and oil pressure all seem ok.
I drive 10 min, and.... beep, alert, "low oil pressure".
I have the Directed SmartStart / Viper car alarm in my car and a few times in my life it has alerted me that my car battery was low... When I checked the car it was fine.. it did it again today and when I checked it, the battery is dead... I can't even start the car...

I have a 2011 Prius Three. After about a month of owning it, I had the dealer disable the back-up beeping so it only beeps once when backing. I'd like to disable the "key not detected" beep.
View 11 RepliesI just found out that the beeps that i hear when in reverse is only for people in the car to hear. outside of the car, with the doors closed, i cannot hear anything. is that by design or is there something wrong?
i would think the beep (for those who changed it from the default) or continuous beeps would be useful to warn whoever may happen to be behind the car since the prius is dead silent at times.

I'm pretty sure this is new behavior the past week or so. Whenever I open the door, whether finishing a drive or entering the car from outside, the car beeps once as if it is trying to get my attention for something. This happens when the car is off (I always press the power button before opening the door)
I do not see any warning lights or anything obviously wrong; what is the significance of this beep?
The technician at Toyota showed me the options. You could either have a continuous beep or the intermittent beep, but you do not have the option of turning it off. I told him it was possible, but how?
View 19 RepliesOccasionally my Prius will give me a quick what sounds like a warning beep after I turn on the car and after it has "booted up." It has only happened a handful of times over the last year or so. The only thing that seems to be in common is that it happens when my car is parked out in the hot sun for sometime. I especially notice it on long trips.
I recall it happening on a trip to Disney last year (really hot) and a trip to Niagra falls this year (fairly hot 90+ degrees). I don't notice any warning lights going on or, if they do, they are gone by the time I look at the dash. It may not be heat related, but what the beep may be?

View 2 RepliesOn my 2010 prius, I recently had my windows tinted. Seems I have lost the single beep when locking the doors. I still get two beeps when unlocking. I also get the double lock when I put the car in gear. But I am having no issues with any of the door locks sticking. smart key isn't working as it was. When I walk up the the drivers door, the inside light would illuminate, that does not happen now.

Believe it or not i even like the backup beep which is kind of like a nice confirmation of "yo, dude! we are going backwards" but the most important one for me is the long single loud beep. happened the other day when i got out of my car to get a coke and the car emitted a continuous loud shrill beep as i started to walk away. I was still in drive.

I've found info on turning off the seat-belt warning beep, and changing the reversing beep to single by using the OBDII connector, but nothing on the CAN bus codes needed for the lock/unlock beeps.

1) How do I set the doors to automatically lock when I leave the vehicle?
2) Also, at night when I open the driver's door, the panel on the door is NOT illuminated making it difficult to unlock the door for passengers. This is a true safety issue. How can this be fixed and NO I do not want the door unlock operation buy handle touch or remote to unlock all doors.
The website [URL] ..... is valuable BUT the separate PDF manual sections is poor since it is difficult to jump around within the whole document. Each section of the document reference pages outside the current section. There is no easy way to know what section that page is in.
A couple months ago I bought a 2010 with the basic trim package. How to change the Beeping in reverse from continuous to "one beep". The owner's manual says that you have to take it to the dealer.

View 11 RepliesWe have a few dozen '10 Prius' at work. When I make stops and get out of the car, I like to lock my doors while the car is running so nobody can steal anything inside the car. I tried closing the door and touching the handle on both sides but I just get a long beep tone which lasts about 10 seconds. And sure enough, the door doesn't lock. I hate leaving the car unlocked and I'm used to our old cars where you were able to take the key out of the ignition and lock the doors while the car was still running.
