Bought a used Prius 2010 last december, Now the hybrid system is shut down and the assumption is that the hybrid battery is the culprit. No codes has been read out of the system but the car has passed 330 000 km so I guess that's very plausible. Have found a used battery from a 2009 prius who the local Toyota service facility says is compatible.

Let's just say I know for certain nothing is wrong. It's only cause I accidentally disconnected and reconnected a wire. Just need to reset is all.
My navigation system just shut off and the screen reads" can not read disk" . Any solution for this problem?
View 3 RepliesI got a 2001 Escape XLT (V6) a couple of months ago. Its in great condition, only 82k miles on it too. It had the notorious door handle issues which I have had fixed. It also had the wet weather stuttering problem, which I had fixed by having all 6 spark plugs replaced (Motorcraft OEM plugs), the back 3 coils replaced, upper intake gaskets replaced, Valve cover gasket replaced, PCV valve replaced (motorcraft).
It runs great when its warm, the problem I am having is when its cold outside and the engine is cold, it starts up fine but idles like crap and if its really cold outside, it starts and dies 3 or 4 times before it can even get to the crappy, stuttering idle. I have to intermittently feed it gas to keep the cold idle going long enough (3 or 4 minutes) before I can drive it. Once the engine is warm it drives like a champ. The only warm engine issue, is occasionally after driving it and putting it in park, the engine will rev up to 2000, 3000+ rpms, and just keep going up until I shut the engine off.
The codes read P0171 and P0174, which are lean on bank 1 and bank 2. It had also thrown a misfire on cyl 6 but once I cleared that it hasn't come back, just the lean codes are still present.
From what Ive been reading, this can be a number of issues, ranging from the IAC valve, EGR valve, MAF or the lower intake gaskets. I'm very much a rookie when it comes to car mechanics, but I think I can handle changing the IAC, EGR and MAF since they are all on top of the engine. However I don't know if I could handle the lower intake gaskets. Ironically, the gaskets are the cheapest part, but the most labor if I paid someone else to do it.
If I replace the EGR, do I also need to replace the EGR Modulator as well? Looking for brand names that are best bang for the buck when it comes to these other parts I have mentioned?

View 1 RepliesTwo weeks ago a large, industrial truck dropped a piece of bent steel pipe on the interstate in front of my 2010, 50k miles, Prius and (sadly) I was forced to hit or swerve into rush hour traffic and cause an accident. It tore up a good part of the cooling system and did some body damage. Of course I didn't know this at the time, but it began to overheat, so I pulled off the freeway and had it towed to a body shop. After about ten days, I got my Prius back.
View 13 RepliesSomething in my Gen II 2006 Prius is causing a type of overheating condition in the hybrid system. The fault/error codes coming up are P3190 and P3191. If I turn the car off for 30 minutes and restart it, it runs fine for a period of time (but usually not more than a week).
I first noticed the problem a couple of months ago during my 45 mile (mostly highway) commute. While driving on the highway, I noticed that the Prius wouldn't accelerate when I stepped on the gas pedal. A couple of minutes later, my dash warning lights come on and the car started slowing down (no response to the gas pedal at this point). For a minute or so, I was able to change gears (reverse or drive) and move a little in either direction but the transmission stops responding altogether very quickly.

Hybrid system error symbol lit up and I noticed that the hybrid battery charge level was at one purple bar.
The first time it happened, I had my car towed to the nearest Toyota dealership. The flatbed tow truck driver (to my surprise) was able to start the Prius and back it into a spot at the dealership. Some of the dash lights were no longer lit.
The dealer couldn't find anything wrong with the car except for the fact that my water pump was leaking. They replaced the water pump, cleared the error codes and drove the car around for about 45 minutes but couldn't reproduce the problem. I drove my car home.
note: this dealership replaced my hybrid battery and 'computer' (I'm sure it has a specific part name - I don't have the info) right before my warranty ran out over a year ago. I didn't have any warning lights lit up on the dash at the time but I told the master mechanic working on my car that it didn't have much power going to the wheels when I put it in reverse (I couldn't back into my driveway). After the hybrid battery and computer were replaced, I had no issues with backing into my driveway.
The same issue happened a week later. I turned the car off for 20-30 minutes, started the car and noticed that the bulk of the dash warning lights turned off so I drove it home. I took it to my local mechanic the following day. He cleaned the intake manifold, changed the spark plugs, cleared the P3190 and P3191 codes indicating that they were generic codes indicating a misfire and said that it was now running fine.
A week later the same thing happened. I did some research and brought the car back to my local mechanic and asked him to change the transmission fluid & to use the Toyota ATF WS fluid. He changed the transmission fluid (and noted that it was dirty), cleared the codes and I brought the car home. I unfortunately didn't get a sample.
We had a power failure that night so I plugged my pond aerator into the cigarette lighter to keep my koi alive and less than 2 hours later I came out to find the pondmaster ap-20 (20 watt) air pump (blows bubbles through 1/2" tubing) wasn't running and my car had shut off with the dash warning lights illuminated. I have run this little aerator for 4 days on a single tank of gas without issues in the past.
my 2010 Prius III was working fine yesterday, but today when I try to start it it did not start. no green or abmer light on the push-start button. I tried few times, but no luck. I got the key from my pocket and got it closer to the push start button and I start hear the normal noise that happen when I opn the door, but the noise was very low and the internal light was very dimmed as if the battery dying. after few attempt to start, the car start at last, but the hubird screen where show the system on the dashboard was off. I try to change the display of the hybrid system but nothing start. the GPS screen display "no DVD MAP inserted" and seem frozen and not allow me to turn off the screen or press any other button.

The car starts and moves, but I'm unsure if I should drive it to the dealer two miles away without doing any further damage to the vehicle or have it towed. The car has 130000 miles and is serviced every 5000 at the dealer with all recommended maintenance performed.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2013 Prius Persona with about 5,300 miles on the vehicle. Just recently had the 5,000 mile service taken care of at a local toyota dealership. The very next day I tried to start my vehicle with no prevail. My instrument panel indicates "check hybrid system" (!) the car will not start, nor will it shift into drive or reverse, only into the neutral position. Made several attempts to turn vehicle on and off and tried to jump start. Still no luck. Had the car towed back to the dealership. Mechanics are still trying to identify the problem. What may be the cause?

View 7 RepliesI have this Prius involve in a wreck on the driver side. Ever since the wreck the hold beeps continuously, "Check Hybrid system turns on". I drove it couple of time every things was fine ( see the video) now nothing comes on. After the wreck I had to jump every time I wanted to start, but now nothing even after multiple jumping attempt, the battery used to die because the brake like always stays on and as soon as I start the car the horn keeps on being non stop.
View 9 RepliesI cleaned out hybrid battery cooling fan today, not too bad after 160K . However, as I test drove prius the Triangle of death and "Check Hybrid System" message pops up.
Drove 13 miles back home, battery charged good. No power consumption data given on hud. Rechecked fan connection and looked over area. All looked good. I dont think ICE was running during drive home. Tested 12 volt=good. Disconnected 12 volt and orange plug. Reconnected. System reboots and seems Ice goes through warm up. Even put in power mode and it roars. Scratching head on this. Coincedence or maybe I should have disconnected 12volt before disconnecting cooling fan?
Just got a "Check hybrid system" message and the triangle of death is on my 2010 Prius -- but I can still drive it...
Toyota's Emergency Response Guide says this error is triggering by the ground fault monitor that is connected to the 12v aux battery.

I brought my 2012 Prius in on St. Patrick's Day for routine scheduled maintenance and was informed about the recall--I hadn't even known yet. I was told it would just take an additional 45 minutes for the software update--no big deal. Except that it was.
They said the computer that was hooked up to my car crashed during the update, and my car computer would no longer recognize the hybrid system. They had no explanation for the crash and said their computer had a full battery, etc. so it didn't make sense, but they would call Toyota to find out way to do and in the meanwhile I would have a rental.
It is April 7 and I still have the rental. They said the part needed, a new computer, is on backorder. They hope it will be in by the end of April but there are no guarantees.
I have some condensation forming on the inside of the plastic cover over the HSI. Is there a way to remove the plastic cover to dry it off?
View 2 RepliesFor the past few days, when I press the power button, I hear the beeps and then every dashboard symbol appears - except the Hybrid System Indicator screen is completely dark. The car seems to be turned on - but when I try to put the car in reverse to back out of my garage, it won't change gears. When I go to press Power to shut it down, it takes about 5-10 seconds to shut off.
I found that opening and closing the driver's side door reset something so that the HSI turns on and the car eventually starts.
So a little over a month ago, I was driving my 2010 Prius (about 42k miles) when the Check Hybrid System light came on. I lost power and my car was stuck on the road, as I was unable to get it into neutral. So I called a tow truck and was towed to my local dealership. The dealership ran some tests, thought it might have been the throttle body. They switched my throttle body with a loaner prius to see if this fixed the problem. The new throttle body worked in my car and my throttle body was put into the loaner and functioned fine. Then they ended up fixing a TSB for the electronics in the car. I was told the problem was resolved and I could pick up the car about a week later.
After picking up the car a week later, before I could even drive away from the dealership, the Check Hybrid System warning came on again. I talked with the service manager and left my car to be fixed again. They checked all the systems and were still unsure what the problem was. Eventually they made sure all the connectors were properly seated and test drove the car and ensured the problem was gone. About two weeks later, I was told the car was fixed and I could pick it up.
After picking up the car, I was still unsure the problem was fixed, but I was told that was all I could do. After having the car, for about a 1.5 weeks I was on the highway. Once again, the check hybrid system light came on and I lost engine power. Luckily, I was able to pull over from the left lane without causing an accident. Once again, I had the car towed to the dealer and now I am waiting to hear back from them.
A few days ago our 2010 with 87k became immobile with "Check Hybrid System" illuminated on dash. Dropped it off at the dealer who had it all day. Replaced the "transistor kit" part number 04899-47021 and blamed the failure on the recall. Recall was not completed. Wife felt a jolt while driving home but no warning lights illuminated. Next day she tried to start it and got that message.
Codes pulled were p3004 with info code 800 and p0ad.
My 2010 Prius Hybrid System Indicator suddenly becoming cloudy one day. Its inside the glass cover and I initially thought it was condensation, but it hasn't gone for several weeks.
I have the Toyota Extra Care Platinum extended warranty, so took my car to a Toyota dealer. They said it was due to some chemical reaction from something I used.
I found that ridiculous because I don't use any chemicals on my car, let alone myself but they didn't budge. I have to call Toyota & see what they have to say.
