I let a friend drive my car for the first time today. Before today I always had a key with a slash through it that blinked until I started the car. Now that has disappeared and the hybrid lock indicator light is on instead. My friend left the car on, by mistake, while she went into the store. She tried repeatedly to lock it, and of course it wouldn't. Did this change something in my indicator lights?
View 10 RepliesI have a Gen III Prius with 13,000 miles. It is less than a year old and I just got the Hybrid Malfunction indicator...I'm a bit upset about this and am wondering what it means. I'm not going to be able to take it into the dealership until next week, and was hoping to get some information about the indicator. It's a blurry shot but it is an exclamation mark with wavy lines below it.

View 2 RepliesFor the past few days, when I press the power button, I hear the beeps and then every dashboard symbol appears - except the Hybrid System Indicator screen is completely dark. The car seems to be turned on - but when I try to put the car in reverse to back out of my garage, it won't change gears. When I go to press Power to shut it down, it takes about 5-10 seconds to shut off.
I found that opening and closing the driver's side door reset something so that the HSI turns on and the car eventually starts.
My 2010 Prius Hybrid System Indicator suddenly becoming cloudy one day. Its inside the glass cover and I initially thought it was condensation, but it hasn't gone for several weeks.
I have the Toyota Extra Care Platinum extended warranty, so took my car to a Toyota dealer. They said it was due to some chemical reaction from something I used.
I found that ridiculous because I don't use any chemicals on my car, let alone myself but they didn't budge. I have to call Toyota & see what they have to say.
I am having a gen 3 prius and yesterday when I am driving on a humpy road.(village side road) i got this message on the prius hybrid indicator screen, with orange color engine light and orange color triangle warning light. But still i can drive the vehicle and it charge the hybrid battery and everything going OK. I got really got fuel economy too after getting the warning message. Only thing is the message is appearing every time at the screen, What should i do now.
View 5 RepliesI've owned a 2014 Prius Four (not IV, Roman numerals were for model year 2010) w/o Nav for just about a year now. I've encounter this mysterious condition three times now where when I turn on my car, all I see on the front displays are the READY light on the far left and the mini-display that shows the shift pattern.
* Both the speedometer/fuel gauge display on the left of the shift pattern display and the "Hybrid status" display on the right of the shift postion display are OFF.
* The car operates normally (it's not in a limp-home mode).
When I first encountered this issue and reported it to my local dealer, they suggested I take a video of it with my smartphone. I did so the car (and a copy of the video) is now at the dealership.
The second and third times this issue came up, I took videos and did some additional testing.
- When these two displays are OFF, there is no backlight to the climate control LED display underneath the stereo...
- I normally drive the car with the headlamps in "AUTO" mode. When you shift the headlamp switch to "DRL off", the two missing displays automatically power on. In any other position (Auto, corner marker lamps only, or headlamps ON position) the two displays in question turn off.
- The issue isn't with me accidentally turning the dimmer switch too low. When the dimmer switch is set to max low and the dash light sensor is covered (emulating complete darkness outside), all three displays on the dash (including the shift position display) are barely visible/look off. As the service advisor saw in my video, that's not the case.
This is clearly a safety issue ("you cannot tell how fast you are going" and "you cannot tell easily how much gas you have left without going through the infotainment display) so for now the dealership at least seems to be on my side in that something needs to be repaired. The good news is that now that the issue has been documented in my service history, they did comment that it will get fixed eventually even if the issue comes back after test. For now, the dealership is stumped so they asked Toyota for guidance on what parts to try replacing.

My nephew borrowed the car for an hours and after that probably he went on a highway the hybrid indicator light is red and also the power light is red.
On my way home from work tonight, the master warning light and the check engine (malfunction indicator lamp) appeared on the dashboard, and the hybrid system warning light has popped up on the multi-informational display.
View 11 RepliesMy 2005 prius with 81k on it just had the Hybrid vehicle immobilizer / Theft deterrent system indicator light spontaneously come on during a road trip where she was heavily loaded for the very first time since I have owned her for over 10 years. I stopped at a rest area and when I got back in it was on...immediately my batteries started draining. They are in 50wh mode which has never happened before, and charge will driving, but if I shut down for even a few minutes they are drained again. The dealer told me this was nothing to worry about and that as soon as they fully charged this would stop.

View 9 RepliesSo I noticed this has happened a few times.. If I press on the brake pedal too hard, the indicator light will come on and then turn off a few moments after I depress the brake pedal. This has happened when the car is stationary as well as when I was coming to a stop, it's happened maybe 5 times since I picked the car up a few weeks ago. Is this normal behavior or an indication of a problem? Just an FYI, I'm not talking about when the indicators light up when first starting the car.. This is tied strictly to pressing the brake pedal hard.
View 8 Replies2010 Prius V owner as of last week. All has been going well and got into the car this morning and all of the above noted lights are on at start-up and stay on as I drive. Have made appointment with the dealer but they cannot get me in until late next week. I did make a short drive this morning and all seemed fine with handling and braking. Searched a few threads here and answers are very varied and none that I saw had all of above lights on. I don't think that it is the Hill Start Assist. Safe to drive until we can get into the dealership?

View 19 RepliesI have a 2013 Prius Persona with about 5,300 miles on the vehicle. Just recently had the 5,000 mile service taken care of at a local toyota dealership. The very next day I tried to start my vehicle with no prevail. My instrument panel indicates "check hybrid system" (!) the car will not start, nor will it shift into drive or reverse, only into the neutral position. Made several attempts to turn vehicle on and off and tried to jump start. Still no luck. Had the car towed back to the dealership. Mechanics are still trying to identify the problem. What may be the cause?
View 5 RepliesMiss the horn beep on my Murano when I locked or unlocked the RX doors. The RX blinks it's lights and I guess there is a dash beep (which I can't hear). I read and read and read the manual but can't find where I can customize to get a horn beep.
View 2 RepliesSo a little over a month ago, I was driving my 2010 Prius (about 42k miles) when the Check Hybrid System light came on. I lost power and my car was stuck on the road, as I was unable to get it into neutral. So I called a tow truck and was towed to my local dealership. The dealership ran some tests, thought it might have been the throttle body. They switched my throttle body with a loaner prius to see if this fixed the problem. The new throttle body worked in my car and my throttle body was put into the loaner and functioned fine. Then they ended up fixing a TSB for the electronics in the car. I was told the problem was resolved and I could pick up the car about a week later.
After picking up the car a week later, before I could even drive away from the dealership, the Check Hybrid System warning came on again. I talked with the service manager and left my car to be fixed again. They checked all the systems and were still unsure what the problem was. Eventually they made sure all the connectors were properly seated and test drove the car and ensured the problem was gone. About two weeks later, I was told the car was fixed and I could pick it up.
After picking up the car, I was still unsure the problem was fixed, but I was told that was all I could do. After having the car, for about a 1.5 weeks I was on the highway. Once again, the check hybrid system light came on and I lost engine power. Luckily, I was able to pull over from the left lane without causing an accident. Once again, I had the car towed to the dealer and now I am waiting to hear back from them.
I was driving, when out of the blue my car went into neutral, and the dashboard lit up. Then all of a sudden the light stayed on "check hybrid system". I pulled over to side of road. AAA towed me.
THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. NO warning.
My 2010 III's hybrid warning light illuminated today while I was driving, and the vehicle shut down almost immediately.
View 10 RepliesJust bought a new 2012 Prius Plug-in on Friday. Still learning the ropes. I've selected EV mode, and the EV mode indicator light is lit up as it should be on he dashboard above my steering wheel. As would be expected, to the right, the Hybrid System Indicator bar features a little car sitting on top of it with the letters "EV."
However, after a few minutes of driving, the letters "EV" disappear from the little car in the Hybrid System Indicator. The indicator doesn't switch the to HV screen (where the main bar is divided into two halves), but remains in the EV screen (where the main bar is undivided, with a little nub on the left for "charge" and on the right for "power.") And the EV mode indicator light above my steering wheel remains lit.
A few minutes later, the "EV" letters appear in the little car once again. Then they disappear, then they come back again. All along, I've had plenty of mileage left to go in EV mode (more than 6 miles).
Is this normal behavior? Is this simply what happens when the ICE kicks in despite being in EV mode? (And the ICE definitely kicked in - I saw that on the Energy Monitor graphic. And I understand why - it's been very cold here [northern NJ].)
Just got a 2008. The Hybrid Battery Status indicator on the display is usually yellow. it will sometimes switch to blue. I assumed that yellow was the correct color but after reading some posts here it seems that they should be blue.
