Anyway to make the steering heavier?
View 9 RepliesAnyway to make the steering heavier?
View 9 RepliesI just bought a 2013 prius 4 with the solar roof package this past weekend. I researched this car for a long time and love it so far!
I can't figure out how to make the screen brighten and dim when it's day/night. And my "default/home" screen is the navigation screen. I've managed to get it to split with my audio screen but I'd love my main screen to JUST be my audio screen and only view the navigation screen when I'm utilizing the navigation.
Our 2010 Prius has about 57K miles on it (mostly highway and rural commuting). The rear brakes just started to make some noise the other day at low speeds. It sounds like a light metallic squeal, similar to a brake pad wear indicator. It only occurs at low speeds and in reverse. Last time I checked the pads, they had lots of life, but that was in the spring.
I'd like to take apart the brakes to service them, but I don't know if this is a DIYer job on a Pruis. I have tons of experience on auto repairs, and have done hundreds of brake jobs (I also perform auto restoration as a hobby and have done almost every type of mechanical work on a car). So I am not really worried about my skill, but I am worried about knowing the proper procedure to do the repairs on a Pruis.
So the car stops all its forward motion and then sets back a little. I'm sure y'all know what I mean.
I just replaced rear brake pads and rotors and noticed when I come to a complete stop and the car lurches back when it stops, there is a little squeak. It sounds like something is moving around back there. Here's my theory:
The old rotors were pretty stuck on the hubs...so they didn't move. There's a little wiggle room between the rotors and the wheel studs. When the vehicle stops and changes directions, the rotors move and make a noise. I ran this by my mechanic and he told me when the lug nuts are tightened, it would prevent that movement.
Replacing the factory pos cable from the alt to the bat in the rear yet? if you have what is the path and was it a pain to do? I have not had the chance to get the car on a lift yet to check and don't know even if it needs to be on a lift to do.
View 8 RepliesI just got the car back together after doing my chains, and I had a miss when it started. Now, the car runs fine only under light throttle but at idle and under heavier loads it has the miss. I drove it around my neighborhood and the check engine light started flashing, but stopped and went out as I was turning into my driveway. The only reason I ask about possible spark miss is because when I removed my plug wires, 2 of them left some of that rubber insulator on the plugs. Plus the car seems to have pretty decent power despite the misfire.
View 1 RepliesSo my brothers 2003 jetta make a noise after steering one way and then the other while driving around town. We jacked up the car and opened the hood and when I pushed the wheel in and out from the 12 and 6 position the shock and the shock tower had excessive play between each other. I'm no expert so I told him to get a second opinion.
He did and the local shop said it's the strut tower. Just checking if this adds up? I'm pretty good with wrenching, and I saw a u-tube vid on replacing a strut assembly. So, I think I can get it except for the spring compressing.
Having clutch issues? I have just put 10k miles on my JSW and the clutch feels like it slipping in 1st gear when heavier load(uphill ETC) is present its even worse. We have never drove it hard pretty much cream puff.
View 9 RepliesMy steering wheel make a moaning noise. 2004 V8 ....
View 5 RepliesMy power steering started to make noise. I checked the power fluid and it was empty. I refilled it and noticed a leak.
View 5 Replies"TOP UP WASH FLUID".... is the only error i get in my display, followed by a squealing noise whenever i try to make a turn AND it seems my power steering has been turned off. at first, i thought the squeal was from a belt, or PCV valve, but i only have 46k miles(06 3.2L). i check my power steering reservoir and it was bone dry. is my fix as simple as a refilling the reservoir? or do i need to flush or replace anything? i've already ordered the Pentosin CHF 11S Synthetic power steering fluid.
View 1 RepliesI have a steering problem in my 2003 forester when i make an extreme right it scrapes and is hard to turn. I took it to morn and they said it was the timing belt, they changed the timing belts and the problem is exactly the same.
View 2 RepliesRadio controls stop working can only make changes from steering wheel. Is there a way to reset the radio so the buttons will work?
View 4 RepliesSo i cave a Clunking noise and feeling coming from the steering column every time i make a slow turn or when i am driving trow ruff roads. I can feel it through the steering wheel.
View 9 RepliesMy '95 Grand Cherokee (104K miles) just started groaning when I make full turns. After first 1 or two turns, right or left, can hear the steering column groan and feel some resistance. Have I lost power steering fluid? or worse?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2009 f250 4x4 . When i make a turn and sometimes while driving the steering locks up. Sometimes i have to jerk it back. Sometimes it feels like i have no power steering . And some times its seems the gear box is stripped. I had it to a mechanic look at it and all the steering and suspension parts are good. The u joints are also good. There has to be a HUGE problem with this issue, due to know one having a steering box, even the dealer. I have a truck that I can't drive...
View 6 RepliesI am in the planning stages of installing / upgrading my X's sound system. This isn't the first time I've done an install like this before, but am running into a bit of trouble with the steering wheel controls.
I know there are options out there as far as interfacing, but my problem is finding the other harness. To be more specific, I know if I pull my radio out, there are 2 harnesses back there. One is the one you get the kit and splice the after market radio into the factory harness. EASY I Know.
Now, need a harness that plugs into the other plug? I'm not a fan of cutting/splicing into factory wires. Most of the steering wheel control kits just require you splice with 2-3 pins on that other Plug and you should be set. I'd really love to just have another adapter that plugs into that harness so I can connect what I need.
2002 camry: my boyfriend just told me he accidentally added power steering fluid to the brake reservoir a couple monthes ago....while i floored it on highway, i only reached 40, when let off gas, car came to a quick stop. later i jacked up rear and was able to turn back tires to rule out e-brake being stuck, when car is in nuetral and pushed (forward or backward) it comes to a stop whithin a foot or so ( it seemed like the brakes were being depressed) possible transmission or brake issue?
View 2 RepliesI recently had a close encounter with some large rocks on a bad road and broke the power steering cooler. I lost some fluid and pressure as I had no brakes and it steered like a log truck. Replaced the damaged part and added fluid. I was informed by ford technician that air in the lines would make noise but would eventually work itself out. Well the brakes work and steering is getting better but it is noisy with steering and brakes. How long should it take to get the air out? PS the fluid looks foamy now. I should also mention it was making a slight humming noise before the incident with the rock.
View 9 RepliesIt has been there for about 6 months....i own a 3rd gen and i feel the steering bit heavy (actually not soft) to steer compared to other toyota models...the tire is 215 45 r17...can the steering tightness be adjusted technically at some point....
View 8 RepliesI have had my 2010 trim two for about a year and have noticed something about it. When I get up to about 70 MPH on the interstate I am constantly having to make tiny steering corrections. On most cars I've had I could let go of the steering wheel and unless there was a curve the car would go straight. I don't know if there is something mechanical wrong, it is the wind shear, or all in my head. All I know is that I'm an old man, and it stresses me out to get above 65 in this car. If it is that way with all pri's are the Gen 4's any better.
