How many miles can be driven after the computer tells you have zero miles left to empty? Or rather how many gallons do you think is left in the tank after the computer says you're empty?
View 19 RepliesI made the mistake of lending my car to my sister who drove about 50 miles with the parking brake on.... And yes it beeped at her the whole way and she didn't think anything of it..... What kind of damage could have been done? Brakes seem to work fine although the parking brake barely works now.
View 19 RepliesJust bought a used 2010 prius II about 2 weeks ago with 10000 miles on it. As I've been driving I feel the consumption display is misleading. It averages around 52-53 mpg, but I'm only getting about 480 miles before I'm running on empty. The tank capacity is 12 gallons right? If so I should be getting at least low-mid 500's before I need to fill up again. Hopefully I'm calculating something wrong and its not the car itself.
View 16 RepliesWhere the Miles to Empty Display seems out of whack? Filled up my car last night and it gave an estimate of 508 Miles to Empty. Drove 40 miles in 2 different trips one of 8 another of 32 and the display is down to 442. Is this a common occurrence? I'm assuming its just because I didn't get as good of MPG as the computer was expecting but on the exit screen when I turned the car off it said I averaged 51mpg on the 32 mile trip and the 8 mile trip was 70mpg. I'm not "concerned" about it but it does throw me off and makes me think I might not be getting as good of MPG as I am being told on the exit screen.
View 19 RepliesSo when I first got my car, the dealer had put in a full tank of gas and the miles to empty range was at 347~. After several fill ups since my purchase, the miles to empty has been dropping every time I filled up. A few fill ups ago, I remember it was 327. The latest fill up was about 318. What gives? Do the current MPG avg affect this number? What is the factor for the variance?

View 6 RepliesI've had this car for a couple of years now and I think this week is the first time I didn't 'fill up' when I got gas. So now the trip computer is all confused on miles to empty vs the almost half tank I have on the fuel gauge. I've tried resetting the trip & holding the button to reset when miles to empty is displayed. I'm a little nervous with the miles to empty in the single digits now.
View 15 RepliesAs I was trying to use up as much E10 before refueling with E0 I was watching the miles to empty and noticed what seems strange, to me. When driving in EV mode, with the ICE off the miles to empty kept falling! Apparently miles to empty somehow includes EV miles. So I checked the MTE both before and after charging and saw no change which indicates EV miles don't count. So now I would like to know what does MTE mean?
View 19 RepliesI have had my PIP for just about one month now and I have only filled up twice. This car is awesome! I noticed when I filled up the last few times that the last block on the fuel gauge started blinking and my miles to empty reading was pretty low. However, when I filled up the tank, it only took around 9,2 gallons. Doesn't this car have a 10.6 gallon tank?

Getting a vibration on driver's side during either accel or load up a hill after driving for 20 miles. It's related to distance driven versus engine warm or cold. I can feel it in the pedals, definitely driver's side.
Things checked:
-axles, replaced driver's side, no change
-transmission is full of fluid, looks good
-motor mount bolts tight
-called Peloquins, they said the diff would cause issues while turning and would occur anytime under load, not just when cold
Wheel bearings have about 15k on them and were INA's, and those shouldn't vibrate only on accel or load. I thought about the dogbone, the poly bushings in it are about 35k miles, but makes no sense why it would appear after driving 20 miles.

View 10 RepliesI have a beautiful 1987 560SL. My husband and I bought it about 17 years ago and lovingly refer to her as our mid-life crisis car. Truth be told, we're a bit past "mid" life now and have decided to sell it and let someone else enjoy her. Last summer she started to have an annoying issue and we "thought" it was fixed, but right after I started advertising, she started acting up again.The engine simply dies while driving. It always seems to happen when I've only driven about 5 miles and going rather slow - 20 to 30 mph. She'll start back up after a try or 2 and be fine. We took her to a local shop and the mechanic said one fuel pump was shot and the other was not working properly so we replaced both and all seemed fine the rest of the summer. We garage her for the winter as we live in the Rockies and she's not the most practical car to be driving in the snow and ice. This summer she started right up and was doing well until a few weeks ago - same problem.
View 7 RepliesI just left to get gas. When I left my house, I had 64 miles til empty. The gas station is about 4 miles away. I put $5 in and when I got back in my car it was reading 59 miles til e. so I drove to another gas station and put another $5 in. This time, it showed 56 miles til e which is where I was before I got gas the second time. I have tried to reset it but can't figure out how to... I've got 90 miles until my warranty expires... Any easy fix? Or do I need to bring it in?

View 1 RepliesThis just gets stranger by the month. I could have sworn when I first got this 2011 Sonata that the console read 341 after filling it up for the first time. I thought it had said that after I filled it the second time (just after Hurricane Sandy - yes, before the long lines - I was lucky) and it read 329. On those occasions the console had read approx 67 & 69 miles to empty. I know I filled it with 87 the second time around. The first time may have been with 89. And when it stopped at 14.x I thought to myself, hmm, didn't it fill to 15.x the first time? Weird. So I went on with my life.
This past weekend it read 50 miles to empty and so I filled it again with 87 (same gas station I should point out). And just like the last time, before this time, it filled with 14.1xx and read 288 miles to empty. It just seems to me that "Miles to Empty" has slowly gone down. On the third filling I believe it may have read 303 to empty.
Is it me? I am imagining things here. Could have that much sludge/dirt/whatever it my tank because of the gas station I visited or the 87 and not 89 that I have been putting in? Oil and filter were changed in mid October and then again in mid March. Thats about to happen again on the 28th but also to have the required NYS Inspection done. What should I say to them if anything? Could I have picked that crappy of a local area gas station?
I had a fuel sender failure a couple of weeks ago. 60k mi.
Basically: freeway driving, fuel gauge read 1/8 tank remaining, computer indicated "10 miles till empty" but the car ran out of gas. Fuel sender, in the fuel tank turned out to be the malfunction.
Towed to the dealer...they had never, ever seen this before.
I get the car back next week, just want to bookmark this thread in case any members (God forbid) have this problem now or in the future.
I still have faith in my Lexus, but want to share as this failure was very unusual.
I got the low DEF fluid message today. 800km to empty (500 miles). I checked early in the day and message said DEF fluid level was O.K. I never got the message exhaust fluid 1/2 full. I had a jug at home so when I arrived home I filled the tank. I had a 2.5 gallon jug. I assumed it would take the entire jug. It would only take 2/3. It would appear I have a false low DEF message. This happened shortly after purchasing the truck but then it seemed to correct itself until now. I now have 40,000 km's (25,000 miles) on the truck.
View 14 RepliesHave a 2014 Prius III. Was getting 50-60 mpg until i took it in for the 5k mile service. Immediately afterwards the mpg dropped to 43-50 mpg. It seems when the car is cold, it will start in EV mode for a few seconds and then the engine will kick in and it will not enter EV mode for the first few miles even with the battery 80% charged, driving under 20 mph, a/c off and keeping the Hybrid system indicator in what should be the EV range.
