Prius (2010-12) :: How Does Lowering The Vehicle Affect MPG
Dec 22, 2012
Is there a clear outcome on MPG on whether it increases it or decreases it?

View 19 RepliesWell, after the October snow storm where it took me 6 hours and alot of sliding around to get home, I decided to get all season tires with good snow traction. I picked up the Hankook Optimo H727 and had them installed at Walmart on 11/21/2011. Right away, my MPG dropped significantly.
View 8 RepliesJust had new tire installed and now noticing that the original stem cap was not used. Alarm is not lit, but wondering if I should try to retrieve the original one, since we notified the tire shop that afternoon......or purchase a new one.
View 5 RepliesI was looking to lower my 2012 Corolla after seeing torres 16 running 18x10 all around on his car. I fell in love with his Corolla and have been craving to do something similar. Now here's the flip side. I am absolutely clueless about the in-and-outs of stance work or being "slammed". I was thinking running 18x10 all around is a bit too much and was looking to run 18x9.5 Grids - if I could find them new. I'd like to sit "flush." What offset would be recommended? From what I saw on wheeldude, they only come in +20 or +38. Would this be possible on BC coilovers? I'd like to achieve a look similar to Jzen 16 or torres 16. Would I be better off running an air suspension setup? The downfall is they get ridiculously costly.
View 14 RepliesI've fallen hard for the C and I'm wondering how the gas mileage has been compromised by the use of the AC. I realize it's spring everywhere else, but I'm dying to know.
View 3 RepliesI have a feeling my 2012 C 3 may have low tire pressure. One of the tires looks kind of softer. Is there an indicator that warns when it happens?
How in general do I approach this? For the past few weeks my mpg was low, barely making it into low 40's. So, I wonder if the tire pressure can affect the mpg.
Looking for info about changing stock 15x5 to 16x7?
View 11 RepliesI just bought a 2010 Prius II and was wondering what size wheels will fit on it. What is the minimum offset I can go with a 17x8 without having the tire scrape the fender when I turn the wheel all the way to make u-turns?
View 2 RepliesJust exploring on my touch screen, while under Setup and then under Vehicle you have the DRL option of {on or off }. But I don't see any difference with I select either one. Even if I switch on my DRL or headlights I see no change when I select on or off. What does it change?? I'm also not finding an answer in the owners manual. On my headlight switch I have these options... Off - DRL - Parking lights - Head lights> All my other Prius friends have an auto headlight that I somehow missed out on ....
View 7 RepliesI've noticed that if I press the EV button when stopped at a stop sign or red light, I can get the vehicle moving up to 25 MPH with the battery. This must save fuel. But I wonder if I am doing something that causes problems with the battery, motor, or other systems.
View 19 RepliesI got this message today, twice as I was pulling out of the driveway but it went away both times. After the 1st I stopped and pulled the key out of my purse. It came back on a 3rd time and right as I was trying to determine if it was significant enough to pullover when the hood flew up and hit the windshield. The hood was closed and there were no other messages.
View 6 RepliesThis evening, long after sundown, I found myself stuck on an unmoving expressway with no sign of traffic starting up again (the radio reported a vehicle fire ahead, all lanes blocked). Time dragged on, and I started worrying about the possibility of the headlights draining the 12V battery , assuming that they do indeed run off the 12V battery. In a conventional car this wouldn't have been a problem because the idling engine would have maintained enough battery charge, but of course here the ICE wasn't running. So I turned off the power button to shut down the lights (it's a Canadian car, so there's no way of turning off the headlights with the power button on). That was safe in this particular situation because there were plenty of stopped vehicles behind me. It definitely would not have been safe if mine had been the last vehicle in the lineup.
View 7 RepliesHow to go about turning off the signal flash when unlocking the vehicle? I grab the door and the signal flashes twice indicating unlocked, I do not like announcing to my neighbours every time I unlocked my car. My dealership tells me they do not know how? I was hoping there is a series of buttons to press or something like that. I have a 2012 base model (one).
View 1 RepliesI have a 2013 Prius with 15k miles, and this happened to me recently for the first time:
- Drove 40 miles
- 24 hours of inactivity
- Drove a very short distance, maybe for 60 seconds, just enough for the ICE to start
- 48 hours inactivity
- Start car, ICE starts, but sputters and sounds like an old, sick lawnmower, and dies after 3-4 seconds. The "check hybrid system" warning is displayed, and I read a P3191 DTC
- Turn off car, repeat three more times, and by the third time, the warning lights went away, and the ICE runs fine again now.
I took the car to a Toyota dealer, and they told me that they didn't see any problems. A friend of mine had the exact same problem with a 2012 Prius, after the same scenario (3 days inactivity with a 60 second trip in the middle of the inactive period).
My 2010 Prius (130k miles) has recently started beeping on curves, turns and braking on occasion. The red triangle also comes on. There is no problem otherwise. It is a bit annoying. What is the cause of this? Could I have the beep turned off?
View 5 RepliesWent down to my garage after the Prius had been off for at least 5 hours and heard a whirring kind of like a fan in the back half of the vehicle. I had never heard this before and it went on for at least 5 minutes then quit. My garage was probably around 60 degrees for most of that time, fwiw. Seems like the area of the battery fan but why would that need to run?
View 2 RepliesThe steering wheel on our Prius is not centered when the vehicle is on a flat road going straight.
View 18 RepliesIf my prius 12V starting battery is dead, and my keyless entry prius is locked, would I be able to jump start my vehicle when I cannot enter it to open the doors, hood or trunk ? The problem is I do not know if the keyless entry is powered off the hybrid battery or the 12V starting battery. If the keyless entry is powered from the hybrid battery, then this is not an issue.
However if the keyless entry is working off the starting battery and that battery is dead and the vehicle is locked, I do not know of how to open the door or the trunk or the hood to jump the vehicle as I cannot access any place in the vehicle suitable to give it a jump start.
Have lowered C, an difficulty getting it into decent alignment? Do I need to purchase a camber kit? I'm on Tanabe DF210s, which are no lower than 1.8", I believe! I'm making an appt. for this Thursday to get the alignment done. I had springs installed this past Friday but wanted to wait a few for them to settle. (I put about 800 miles a week on the car.)
Basically, I'm just looking to know whether the shop should be able to get the car within spec. without the addition of a camber kit or anything else that might be required for the alignment.
Is it necessary to get new shocks/coilovers when installing lowering springs? (and other concerns)
View 12 RepliesJust bought some new front rotors and there's a scratch on one of them and was wondering if it would affect the functionality. Just don't want to go through the hassle of returning/exchanging it but willing to if it does.
