16 K miles- the noise level when highway driving is beyond belief-- difficult to hear the radio and conversation is a strain. Tires are beginning to cup. Close a front door with a window open produces cheap noise, not a solid thump. Toyota agrees there is noise, but will do nothing about it. " that is the way they are".
View 2 RepliesI just brought my 2011 Prius to the dealership today after the check engine light came on. Last night, the car was intermittently revving at a high level, but otherwise the car as running fine. The service technician was saying it was the VSV valve that was intermittently sticking. I was told that there was a software update on this valve that might take care of the problem; I asked about the lifespan for the valve, but he had no information about that. I told him to just do the software update, but now I'm wondering if I should also replace the valve.

The battery level has been fluctuating when im driving. It would go up and down and not stay up while driving. Generally regenerates when i brake alot. I just got it serviced at toyota and they OK'd the battery condition.

OK Wife has been coming home and the car smells like coolant. The tiny hose from the rad cap to the reservoir isn't pressurized and popping the res cap does not release pressure. Do they are supposed to pressurized?
The coolant level is in the exact middle of high and low just after a 25 minute highway drive. I cant see any puddles or leaks anywhere on the tray; but I have pulled the tray anyway to see if leaks show up on my floor. Temp gauge never wavers at all from what she tells me.
This is a bit perplexing. Maybe a bad rad cap?
Car suddenly started a high pitched whistling noise/metal on metal sound at highway speeds. It is intermittent, no noticeable pattern w/acceleration or braking. Similar sound at lower volume when the shock/spring is depressed (pushing down on that corner of the car). Louder at low speeds.

View 7 RepliesThis was quite unusual for me, but while I was driving down afternoon highway traffic, my left resting-feet accidentally bumped onto the e-brake. My Prius made a single beeping sound, but I don't think I fully depressed the brake at all so it kept on rolling and the e-brake light never stayed on.
I wonder if that did any damage to my Prius at all with a slight depress of the e-brake or if it wasn't anything at all?
I noticed a drop on my mpg while driving with an open sunroof.

View 2 RepliesThis system has a feature that is supposed to adjust the sound level to compensate for road noise etc. I had a Ford with this feature and you could adjust the sensitivity. It worked great; adjust the volume sitting still and the volume went up and down as you traveled.
In the 2010 Prius, I have enable the feature but I cannot figure out if the sensitivity can be adjusted and I do not hear that it is working. I set the volume and start driving and as the road noise increases the sound just gets drowned out. If you turn it up, when you slow or stop it just blasts loudly; no adjustments at all.
I have purchased a 2010 III Prius with 73K miles last week after my 2006, everything is fine for me but I have a scary problem , the engine sound is very high while driving even after enough warming up, specially when the ECO meter reaches the PWR area or when accelerating hardly, I tried changing the engine oil with synthetic 0W-20 and the filter and the sound still the same.

I have a 2006 accent gls manual and when I am on the highway in 5th gear my rpms are high. if I am cruising at 110km my rpms will be almost at 3500..

View 5 RepliesI drive a 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT (6 speed Manual) and I have noticed that when im in 6th gear going highway speeds, I have an RPM of about 3K. For this model I feel this value is high and im worried about engine wear and fuel economy. I'm not sure about the other gears, but from my knowledge of other cars in the same weight category, less horsepower and 4-speed automatic gearbox, my car should not have such high RPM.
View 12 RepliesI drive a 2000 Dodge Dakota Sport w/ 4.7L V8 engine. I have been dealing with an overheating problem for about 6 months now and have nearly exhausted all hope of correcting the issue. It has been in the shop on 4 separate occasions and seen 2 different mechanics. The radiator has been replaced, the thermostat and thermostat housing have been replaced, the radiator fan works properly, hoses have been replaced and no subsequent leak has been found by either mechanic, they haven't mentioned the possibility of a blown Head Gasket (nor has the typical "milky residue," shown up in my oil cap). Each time I got it back from the shop the problem was fixed for about two weeks, then returned and slowly got worse.
It overheats in idle (with the fan running), on the highway at high speeds, and while driving slow. Sometimes it only gets about 3/4th to the red (usually when its cool at night) and sometimes it will hover just below the red; while I'm doing everything I can to keep it from hitting red (defrost on, revving engine). Some days it takes a little while to get hot and some days it happens very quickly. I'm tired of sinking money into the vehicle but as a recent grad I don't have the money for a new truck at this point. Suggestions included heater core clogged, water pump gone bad, fan clutch.
My 2005 Ford Freestar with 164k miles experiences a high pitched whistling noise coming from the front end after a few minutes of highway speed driving. It sounds like a tea kettle whistle. It starts out as a quick pulsed whistle then moves to a solid whistling noise. I've heard it driving straight and turning. The sound pulsates if I turn the steering wheel slightly to the left or right but seems to occur more when I turn right. The sound does not occur if van is not in motion and will stop just before car comes to rest at a stop. Three repair shops have looked at this and none of them can replicate the sound while van is on a lift but one shop did hear it during a test drive. All three shops have been unable to locate / diagnose this whistling noise. They all state brakes are in very good shape.
View 3 RepliesI rotated my wheels after approx. 20,000 miles. I should have done it sooner. I noticed the tread pattern was considerable different when rotated. It has been about 6,000 miles since the rotation but I get high vibration noise when I'm around 30-40 mph is when it is most noticeable.
I'm assuming this is probably exacerbated even more due to the harder rubber tires for the Prius.
It has been just about a year since I bought my CPO 2007 GX470, and I still love it like the first day I drove her! I've noticed one little thing I can't put my finger on, though - an intermittent rumbling/rattling sound coming from the ceiling during high speed highway driving and/or high winds.
Now, I've checked the sunroof itself, and there doesn't appear to be any "give" to it. It's solid. Same for the surrounding parts of the mechanism. Yet for some reason, during 70+ MPH driving and/or high winds, I get this low-pitched "WHUUUM..WHUUUUM..." vibration from somewhere above my head.
Haven't taken it to the dealer yet since I'd like to identify the issue myself if I can, but it's hard to isolate when you're focused on driving.
About a month ago, I purchased my 2013 Prius Four. I've put on about 2,500 miles so far and recently started noticing when I start the car up, it is giving off a high pitched squeaking noise. This happens both when the car is using the electric battery and when I can feel the gas engine kick in. After about a minute or two, the noise goes away and doesn't come back.
