I am new to the prius 2010.
I filled up last week and I noticed that as soon as a single cell display in the fuel display part has some empty section like 3/4 fuel(single cell) the next day or after that that whole cell disappears without it showing that single cell as being empty.
Around which fuel cell, when displayed, is it important and recommended to fill up gas again, with one cell remaining or two etc.
I recently purchased a used 2007 and have since driven 308 miles on it. There are currently 3 bars left on the fuel gauge, and the computer reports that I'm averaging 45.8 mpg.
However, I don't see how that mpg is possible because if I have been averaging 45.8 mpg over 308 miles, I should have used only 6.27 gallons...and 6.27 gallons is only 56.5% of the 11.9 gallon tank size, compared to the 70% that I've used based on my current fuel gauge status.
How can I see the fuel cost displayed during or at the end of a trip in Prius 2015 Four?
I set up the price in the settings but it is still not displayed.
Just bought a 2012 Prius Three last Friday. The MFD (upper display) shows an average of about 53 mpg so far, and the corresponding 1 & 5 min bars seem to make sense (we have an 07 TCH so we're reasonably familiar).
But the Display Audio unit (6.1 inch) Car>Consumption graph seems to show 100mpg most of the time/most bars. That can't be right and it looks nothing like the MFD display. What am I missing?
Just bought a used 2010 prius II about 2 weeks ago with 10000 miles on it. As I've been driving I feel the consumption display is misleading. It averages around 52-53 mpg, but I'm only getting about 480 miles before I'm running on empty. The tank capacity is 12 gallons right? If so I should be getting at least low-mid 500's before I need to fill up again. Hopefully I'm calculating something wrong and its not the car itself.
View 16 RepliesOn a Gen III. Just wondering, I know at about 25 miles to empty on the display I get a single blinking pip on the fuel gauge. Usually I'll gas up about 30 miles after the display reads 0 miles to empty, and put in about 9.75 to 10 gallons. I know I still have maybe 1.75-2.00 gallons in reserve.
Does the single pip keep blinking until you run out of fuel?
Not the usual. I stopped on my way home to get gas tonight when the gauge was showing one pip. Naturally it wasn't low, but I'm used to that.
The odd thing is that after I got in the car and turned it back on the gauge stayed at one pip and the fuel display on the multi-function display didn't reset.
While most of the emphasis I've seen on improving fuel economy seems to focus on warming the car up quickly in cool/cold weather, I seem to be experiencing significant mpg drops at the other end of the spectrum.

Now, I understand gas mileage is high at the beginning of a trip, but for this long and this high and under these circumstances? I'm getting ABOVE 10l/100km when I have 80% charge available (for americans, that's disgustingly high MPG like, pick-up truck high), AND my foot is completely off the gas. Literally, coasting, or braking, and I'm still sucking up gas. What the heck?
Is this just because it takes a certain amount of time for the engine to run no matter what or something? I still don't see any reason for me to be eating up all that gas when my foot isn't even on the gas AND most importantly, I have charge available. Feels pointless for me to use my car for what I use it for 70% of the time, which is for quick errands around town at low speeds. Thought the prius was suppose to be a superstar for this kind of thing.
So my fuel light started blinking after 480 miles. How much more can I drive it? The display shows 30 miles left before fill up but I read in the manual that when the fuel light starts blinking there is 1.6 gallons left so should that be like 75 miles left. Just wondering. To be on the safe side, I went to fill up.

View 6 RepliesSo computing avg fuel mileage. There are a lot of times display shows max of 99.9. Does the car use that number to compute av?. Or is that just the display's max and the car knows it is 155 or infinite mpg. (rolling downhill gen charging HV batt using no fuel actually more than infinite mileage)

I had 145 km range left on my tank.
I decided to fill up $12 of gas, my bar was at 2, it went up to half tank full, around 6 bars.
However, my range didn't go up, it still showed 145km left.
Now I'm driving and the range is down to 79km left, but I still have 4 bars left, usually at 79km I would only have 1 bar left.
Usually I have to refill up the full tank for the range to change and goes to 645km
How long did your car take to accurately display cruising range? I am on my first tank of gas, and even though my average is 54.5mpg, my cruising range is displayed as 380miles. That doesnt add up at all...
View 19 RepliesStarted about a month ago, no speedometer or fuel gauge (the display up on the dash). So, somewhere I found out about unplugging the 12v battery and that worked...for a while! After a few times doing that, I read somewhere that it is a sign that the 12v battery is going. So, I took it in to the local auto parts store, they tested it and said it was good.
I bought one anyhow since it was about 3-1/2 years old. That worked for about 2 weeks, but now it's back! I've unplugged the battery and again it has ( temporarily ) fixed this issue. The other thing that happens is that it is difficult to turn off and requires you to hold the power button for an extended period of time. I guess part of my problem is I am not sure what to call that display and my searches are coming up with all sorts of things. I have about 160,000 and have had no problems.
So I'm now on my second week with this 2012 Prius and still trying to learn how to roll in it.
I filled up my very first tank yesterday (dealer gave me a full tank when I bought it) and the miles remaining display said 424 miles after I filled up. Does it display 424 on all Priuses by default?
The first tank gave me right around that many miles before I filled up - the miles remaining display said I had 9 miles left so I got too scared to see if I could go farther. But when I filled it, I only filled just under 10 gallons - does that mean there's more miles for me to drive, despite that remaining miles meter?
And...am I getting pretty bad fuel economy?
I kept a record of every drop of fuel used in my 2008 Gen II Prius. It was easy with only two simple screens: Energy and Consumption. After writing down the numbers I reset the Consumption screen at every fill up. I entered these into a spreadsheet that did a bunch of calculations telling me all kinds of interesting things.
Now to my new 2014 Prius v Two. I'm confused regarding all the new information available. (A good thing) Which screen and number am I looking for that is equivalent to the Miles and cumulative MPG on the old Gen II?
Would like to sort this out before my first fill on the new car.
How accurate is the mpg readout on that display screen on the Prius. How is it measured.
View 2 RepliesWhile driving around 55mph, the check engine light came on and as soon as it came on the car begin to slow down until it came to a stop. There was no noise. This was the first time the check engine light has came on. My car has exactly 28,960 miles on it.
It took the service department at the dealership nearly 2 full days to charge the car and get it to stay on when you turn it on. It wouldn't initially stay on when they charged it. They originally called me this afternoon around 4:30pm and said they were trying to get a software update from Toyota. Around 4:55pm they called again to say that I needed to contact my insurance to file a claim because they think maybe something is wrong with my gas because they think they found some crystal-like substance in the tank. A gas-related issue is not covered under warranty.
I don't see how a gas-issue caused the car to completely shut down. I also don't see how this could be why they had trouble charging the battery.
Today when I was driving home from work and getting off the Freeway the yellow triangle flashed and the MFD said "Low Engine Oil Pressure" and the car beeped. It was only on for a few seconds then went off. The off ramp was one of those looping ones and I was taking it pretty fast probably around 50 MPH but I have done that many times before...
View 19 RepliesEvery time I turn the car on, the "from start" fuel economy reading resets to 15l/100k. After driving for a while it goes down to 4l/100k but then resets back to 15 once the car is turned off. Is there any way to get it to stay at what it finished at?
