Fill up the tank when I had 20miles to go but the figure is not changing, still going down, I'm at 9 miles.

So when I first got my car, the dealer had put in a full tank of gas and the miles to empty range was at 347~. After several fill ups since my purchase, the miles to empty has been dropping every time I filled up. A few fill ups ago, I remember it was 327. The latest fill up was about 318. What gives? Do the current MPG avg affect this number? What is the factor for the variance?
View 17 RepliesHave owned this car for 8 days and the wife is driving her normal traps, only shows having used 1/2 tank and over 240 miles, something must be wrong with this thing, must take back to dealer,
View 6 RepliesI have a 2010 ford f150. Every time I fill it up with gas it wont start upon the first try just turns over. Second time it sputters and then stalls.Third time it starts then runs and stalls.Fourth time it will start fine until I fill the truck up with gas again. I caught part of a Car Talk shop on Saturday May 25 about a gas fumes the new sealed gas tanks, charcoal filters. Didn't hear all of the program.I read some articles on the internet about a possible gas tank valve. What is the problem with this ford f150 truck to make it stall out after it is filled with gas???
View 5 RepliesMy wife's 2010 Chevy Traverse has 85,000 miles, and has run great over the years. The past 4 or 5 times we filled up the tank, the vehicle won't start right afterward. It turns over, but seems like it's either flooded or starved of fuel. Then, after a few tries it gets going and starts up fine until the next fill-up. The "Check Engine" light has not come on during this. At least one time it was way down on gas, and at least one of the times it had almost a quarter tank - same result. I called 2 of my repair buddies and they don't have the answer.
View 3 RepliesI just started to have some idle problems with my 2013 Elantra GLS auto 1.8 that has 10k miles.
I went to the gas station to fill up the tank since the gas was very low (30 mile range). I filled up the tank, started the car and the engine began to stumble and idle poorly like it was about to stall. I put the car in drive and the engine stalled. I restarted the car and it ran normally.
The car will now briefly idle poorly when I'm at a stop light. The car will be at a stop light idling and running normally. Suddenly, the tach will go down to 200 rpm and then up to 1200 rpm, like it is about the stall. Then it will idle steadily and be back to normal. This has happened about three times over the past two weeks.
What may be causing this intermittent idle problem?
I've got a 2001 Prius with a minor but annoying problem. It pops a P0440 code from time to time, always shortly after the gas tank is filled. Driveability/fuel economy are unaffected, and no other codes are ever triggered.
I checked for a cracked hose nipple on the "tank retainer", as posted by forum member kmc6566, but the unit on my car looked ok.
I filled my 2010 Prius IV. Every day since, my indicated MPG has gone up about one MPG, with my 40 mile round trip to work.
I had been running around 46-48 MPG indicated this winter. Next day it was up over 50. Yesterday 52, today it is up to 53 mpg and I have used 1/2 tank on 256 miles, which is much better than my winter stats.
I thought nothing of this before and just chalked it up to being at a gas station and the cold weather. But this is my 3rd fillup with this car and every single time i've smelled gas.
i just filled up my tank tonight and there was a gas smell, which went away after a couple of miles driving. Should i be worried? I mean smelling gas is never a good thing. Car is 2011 camry v6, 36k miles on it.
some have said its overfilling of gas, but i let off once it clicks and do not keep filling. Bought it used so not sure if previous owner liked to "top" it off.
is there anything i can check, i.e. fuel lines under car seats?
How many miles does it say you can drive after you fill up? Mine says 334 and that's what I'm getting. I want to hit 400 for a tank and can't.
View 13 RepliesIn the last month, I've been getting less miles per fill up. Previously the gas light would hit 1 bar around 400 miles. Now its hitting 1 bar around 350-360 miles. But when I fill up, I only fill up about 8 gallons so I haven't lost any gas mileage. It feels as if the tank shrunk on me.
View 6 RepliesSo I filled up my tank tonight and started off home when the car started shuddering, not bad but shuddering and the CEL came on and blinked so I pulled over and shut the car off, waited a minute or two then turned it on, everything was fine and after a little longer the CEL turned off but turned back on again after 30 or so miles. The car is still running fine.
Do you think its the evap emissions valve? My wife said it shuddered a little when she filled up last week as well. Or it might be the coils? I have a warranty so its going in tomorrow anyway but I am going to drive it to work and drop it off.
I have difficulty filling my gas tank in my 1996 Sebring convertable. The pump keeps shutting off as if it is filled. Thought it was a venting problem but my mechanic couldn't find anything.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2004 subaru outback that smells of gas when the tank is filled. The smell persists for a couple of days after the tank is filled. It started in the spring and I brought it to the dealer but they couldn't find anything. It seemed to go away during the summer but now that the colder weather has started the problem has returned.
View 6 RepliesI am considering purchasing a 2010 as an upgrade from my current 2008, I have been reading recently as these last 3 days of constant rain made me check my current one for leaks and like normally the battery tray was filled with water.
View 3 RepliesI been having this issue when I drive to 0 miles left on gauge, then fill it at gas station and it clicks like its full, but shows only 8.5-9 gallons? And fuel gauge shows 1 bar missing from full.
2011 66k miles
Took to dealer and they replaced gauge module and was ok for 2 fill ups but now its doing it again.
I have been a happy 2009 Prius owner for 2 weeks now but am a bit concerned with the fuel capacity I have been experiencing.
The first tank I went to fill-up when there were three blips left on the fuel guage and the tank only took 5.7 gallons. I wrote this off as I did not know how much gas was in the tank when purchased (the guage was on full). The mileage was around 250 miles.
Today I had to stop again for gas. There were 3 blips left on the guage and the tank again only took 5.4 gallons. I am not concerned about the MPG, but with the tank only taking around 5 gallons.
The car is great. Filled up with first tank of diesel last Sunday. About 100 miles into a long ride east, the CEL came on without explanation. I double-checked the gas cap, and it had been replaced properly.
View 5 RepliesI am a new driver, just realized I left my fuel cap the last time I filled up. I drove for 30 min, it was cold -8, is that dangerous, is it bad for the car ? should i take it to be checked in a garage ?
View 4 RepliesHow many miles can be driven after the computer tells you have zero miles left to empty? Or rather how many gallons do you think is left in the tank after the computer says you're empty?
View 19 RepliesSo I'm now on my second week with this 2012 Prius and still trying to learn how to roll in it.
I filled up my very first tank yesterday (dealer gave me a full tank when I bought it) and the miles remaining display said 424 miles after I filled up. Does it display 424 on all Priuses by default?
The first tank gave me right around that many miles before I filled up - the miles remaining display said I had 9 miles left so I got too scared to see if I could go farther. But when I filled it, I only filled just under 10 gallons - does that mean there's more miles for me to drive, despite that remaining miles meter?
And...am I getting pretty bad fuel economy?
